WEDNESDAY HODGEPODGE

Volume 227
Thank you Joyce :)

1. When did you last 'swim against the tide'? Explain.

Good question, when I think of an answer I will come back!

2. What's the last self-help or self-improvement book you read?

I can't come up with one......

3"Tolerance is a tremendous virtue, but the immediate neighbors of tolerance are apathy and weakness." (Sir James Goldsmith)

Agree or disagree? Discuss. With civility please, because I think we have a good thing going in our very diverse (in geography, age, religion, political persuasion, ethnicity, marital status, upbringing, and cooking abilities) neighborhood here on This Side of the Pond.

Tolerance: the ability or willingness to tolerate something, in particular the existence of opinions or behavior that one does not necessarily agree with.
Apathy: lack of interest, enthusiasm, or concern.
Weakness: the state or condition of lacking strength.

I am going to say yes I agree with Sir James Goldsmith's quote.

4. What is one of your most vivid memories of the kitchen from your childhood?

Probably the smell of Chocolate Chip Cookies in the kitchen in our basement. My mother's parents would come and spend the summer with us in Illinois. They were retired to Florida at the time. She made the very best cookies ever!

5. How did/do your own children's summers compare with your summers as a child? If you're not a parent, answer as it relates to what you've observed about the current generation of children vs. your own childhood.

Looking back I'm going to say that my children's summers were pretty similar to my own. Only difference is that I would ask them to call when they got to their friends house. That would have been on a landline phone. Of course they grew up with air conditioning which I didn't have right away.

6. Tell us what body of water you would most like to be on or near today, and why?

Since I am typing this on Tuesday I am going to say the pool in our neighborhood because that would mean my flights home from Florida were all good yesterday!

7.  Share a favorite song about water, or a favorite song with the word water in it's title, or a favorite song to listen to as you sit beside the water.

I cheated on this one and looked at a list of songs. However I do like this song but not sure I would have come up with it on my own.

8. Insert your own random thought here.Update

I'm home from Florida. Got in a little after 10:30 pm last night. (1:30 am Florida time) It was a long day and a lot of walking around Houston's airport. It is so big! My dad is missing me and called me in Houston a few times where I had a 4 hour layover.

Happy to be home with Amber, her dog Charlie and my little girl Skye who was thrilled to see me. Mark arrived safely in the UK yesterday and will be home on Saturday evening. Adam will be in town on Saturday and will spend Sunday with us.

We used to have to do the Houston airport when my grands lived in Texas. It was so intimidating.

Chocolate chip cookies. You had a good mom :)

So glad you had a nice trip, and I know it probably feels good to be home. I'm a big Michael McDonald fan-good song!

Hi, I know it will probably take you several days to get back into your normal routine. Sounds like you will be staying busy though. Have a great day!

I'm so glad you made it home safely! There's no place like home.
I like your song choice, but would've never come up with it since it's an oldie but a goodie--like me :)

Interesting post. I know a few people who could exercise a little more tolerance.

So glad to learn you made it back safe n’ sound! Getting home to one's own bed (and bathroom!) is sweet, but at the same time, bittersweet.

You know, I’d have had to consult an on-line song list, as well. Black Water’s a great choice! (… paying on the little record player in my head!)

You'll have to share the chocolate chip recipe! I'm always on the look out for a good one.

Glad you got home safely and everyone was happy to see you. Hopefully you got some rest.

I don't often comment on the questions (I usually give some answers), but question number 3 had me giggling! Our very diverse (in geography..... and cooking abilities) neighbourhood. I never thought of cooking abilities as something to make you stand out. I will have to think of it from now on!!

Glad you are home safely. I am sure your dad is missing you like crazy! Chocolate chip cookies are one of the best comfort foods of all time, if you ask me. I googled for a song with water in it too. Love the Doobie Brothers :)

Good to know your home safe. Have a good weekend with your family.

The Doobie Brothers really make me think of Junior High. Not sure if that is because they were popular then or just if it was an old song they played at the roller skating rink!

I think you would like The Happiness Project -- she took each month of a year and tried to do something to further happiness. Not all of them were things I'd want to do, but a super easy one that I did incorporate was to use a password for websites to be something positive/some action you want to take. At the time I was dating a little so I made my password datingyes

No longer dating, nor using that password! Ha! Thanks for visiting my blog!

I'm glad you had a safe trip back!

My kids childhoods were not dissimilar from my own in the sense that they were adventurous, outdoorsy kids.
