WEDNESDAY HODGEPODGE

Volume 247
Thank you Joyce.
Come and play along.....

1.  Many families have a story they love to tell every year around a holiday. Does your family have one? Are you the star of that story, or does another family member take center stage? Share your story if you want.

My parents had a different way of having Santa arrive at our house! I don't know when or how this became our tradition but Santa would arrive at our house on Christmas Eve. My father's parents would be at our house. My father would pick them up since they didn't drive.

We would head out to church for Christmas Eve service. The church was decorated beautifully because of my parents. Something they would do every year. My grandparents wouldn't join us but I never questioned why.

Well of course they didn't join us because they were Santa Claus. That's right, when we came home from church the tree lights would be shinning in the window which meant Santa visited us.  I look back and kinda scratch my head about this one. Jesus and Santa both on the same night. I bet I was very antsy sitting in church on Christmas Eve.

2. Are you afraid to speak your own opinion?

I'm going to say no. I wasn't always this way but I do speak up for myself now. Of course there is a time and place for that sometimes.

3. Pantone has announced the color of the year for 2016, and for the first time have chosen two shades-rose quartz and serenity. Hmmm...did you know serenity was a color? You can read the thought behind their selection here, but essentially it's blending the warmth of rose quartz with the tranquility of a very soft shade of blue. So what do you think? Are these colors I'd find in your home or wardrobe? Will you add something in these shades to either place in the new year?

I have to admit that I think they are beautiful colors. (Click here) I would definitely wear them.

4. If you could be in a Christmas carol, which one would you choose? Why?

Are you talking about a Christmas movie or play? It's a Wonderful Life, White Christmas, The Holiday, The Family Stone.........my list is endless!

Update, my mind immediately went to the Christmas Carol movie. I realize now that Joyce meant a song so I will choose Silent Night.

5. December 9th is National Pastry Day. Will you celebrate? When did you last purchase something from a bakery? What's your favorite treat that falls under the heading of pastry? Do you make it yourself or buy from the professionals?

I doubt I will join in. I try to stay away from sweets. The last time I purchased something from a bakery was Carlo's Bakery in the Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas. Had to try Buddy's cannoli. I guess a cannoli would be a favorite pastry. Otherwise I like cheesecake. I do like to bake and I always make a sweet Bohemian Bread at Christmas.

6. When it comes to holiday decorating___________.

I go all out! I'm not ready to post pictures yet but you can see what I did last year here.

7. When did you last laugh so much it hurt? Explain.

You always catch me off guard. I'll be back if I remember. I feel like it was very recent!

8.  Insert your own random thought here.

So much to do....so little time!

I would never have been able to sit still through church knowing what would be waiting when we got home... as it was we got up at 4 am and woke our parents to race in and see what santa left. we continued that even in our teen years long after we did not believe in Santa... i took a peek at last years decorations, and cant wait to see what you do this year. that bakery loaf has me drooling.

Hi Debby, Loved reading your answers. I also attended church services on Christmas Eve-at midnight. It was pretty special and then my dad and I would go home and have egg nog and pantalone bread.
I love decorating for Christmas too. Have a blessed day!
Hugs, Noreen

I just knew your answer for #6 would be similar to mine--and it was :)
I always think of you at Christmas time, since we both love to decorate so much.

I loved your Christmas story! What a neat idea your parents and grandparents had :)

Good morning, Debbie~

I loved reading your answers. We are Norwegian so we used to celebrate Christmas on Christmas eve.

I absolutely LOVE Christmas and normally have my hone decorated early but this year I am in Kansas with our daughter, her husband and their new baby boy. So, needless to say, my house is not decorated and here we only have a tree up.

Blessings~
Laura

I've known of several families that celebrated their Christmas on Christmas Eve. I know its a tradition of some countries. That was cute though of your grandparents getting things ready though for your celebrations :) I too like those two colors, it is interesting though with the name of serenity for one of them. You always do such a great job of decorating!

I didn't understand about the colors, should have gone to see what they looked like...I like the jewel tones and would never wear that pale a blue unless it was paired with black or navy near my face.

How funny.....Santa came to our home on Christmas Eve also! We would go out for a drive to see Christmas lights and when we returned home, Santa had been.
I look forward to seeing your decorating this Christmas.

My hubby's favorite treat is a cannoli, also!

I went to Catholic school and from 6-9 years old was planning on being a nun. (influenced by my first grade teacher, Sister Ann) We went to midnight mass and, while I was mesmerized by the "production" for Christmas Eve in the church, I think the fact that Santa "might" get to our house early was what helped us stay awake that long. :D He ever did gets us early. He always had cookies with mom and dad long after we'd fallen asleep. ;)

When it comes to holiday decorating.... I giggled at the question. "You know WHO's blog this is, right?" :)

That was fun about your grandparents and Christmas Eve. :-) I'm with you on trying to stay away from pastry. I'm not sure what possessed me to make a Christmas cake this year! And like you, I love cheesecake. They are my nemesis for sure. Enjoyed your Hodgepodge today. - Judy

Oh I bet you were antsy in church! My boys never want to go to sleep the night before santa comes.

Going all out is almost an understatement when it comes to you and Christmas. LOL I've enjoyed you pix on Facebook! I'm not doing much this year, but that's because we're going to the mountains for the whole week of Christmas and we're going to decorate like Laura Ingalls did. :)

I just loved your Christmas story, Debby! I can only imagine what must have been on your mind knowing that Santa had come! Can't wait to see how you've decorated this year!

You sure do decorate! I use to do so much decorating but as time goes by I don't anymore. I don't know how you were able to sit still in church knowing Santa's arrival.

I know I'd have sturggled to sit through church knowing Santa had been at my house. I remember when church fell on a Sunday, how hard it was to wait to open gifts until after the service. Felt like torture to us : ) You do go all out in decorating, but I'm sure you enjoy it too. Have a good day!

I know you love Christmas and so do I! I love your answers. I am with you on time too - I am really in a time crunch this Christmas too! So much to do....so little time!

Loved your responses. I love cannoli's too. We had a bakery walking distance from our house when I was young and they made killer ones. The Bohemian bread looks delish. How hard is it to make?

That is such a cool story about Santa visiting! My best pastry memory is being in New York during December down in Little Italy. I was sitting in Ferrara's enjoying hot chocolate, cannolis and the customers. Having it snow at that time was icing on the cake! Enjoyed your answers!

I had to look up those colors. They are pretty and I"d wear them, but my house is decorated in earth tomes.

I always enjoy reading your questions and answers; very enlightening. Thanks for the link to the Pantone colors but I don't like either...too feeble for my coloring, but I'm a skin tone who wears jewel colors.
I used to jingle bells outside my nephews windows to make them think Santa was near. I could hear the screams and little feet running, running, running.
I heard the Bells on Christmas Day is a favorite and if I want to watch Christmas movies, will have to buy them.
Debby, Merry Christmas to you and yours!
