Before we being I am going to bring up the fact that the Oscar's are going to be on Sunday February 28th and they just announced the nominations last week. I can't wait! My goal each year is to see the nominated Best Movies. I have a few more to see......
On December 10th I went to see The Secret in Their Eyes. I thought this movie was good. I didn't know the story line other than what I saw in the trailers for it. There were some great twists and turns that I didn't expect.
"A tight-knit team of rising investigators, along with their supervisor, is suddenly torn apart when they discover that one of their own teenage daughters has been brutally murdered."
Obviously things got busy after that with the Christmas Holiday. I didn't see this next movie until January 2nd. Mark and I went to see Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
I have to admit that I really enjoyed this movie. Loved seeing the originals back! I also liked the newest characters Finn and Rey and look forward to seeing them in future Star War movies.
"Three decades after the defeat of the Galactic Empire, a new threat arises. The First Order attempts to rule the galaxy and only a ragtag group of heroes can stop them, along with the help of the Resistance."
Next up was The Big Short. This movie is about the housing bubble crash. I liked this movie and the actors were great. I was a little lost in all the financial stuff but I am really glad I saw it.
"Four denizens of the world of high-finance predict the credit and housing bubble collapse of the mid-2000s, and decide to take on the big banks for their greed and lack of foresight."
Next up is the movie Joy. The trailers actually didn't impress me that much but I did love all the stars who were in it so I knew I would see it at some point.
Then I saw Jennifer Lawrence on the Andy Cohen show and realized who the story was about. It is about Joy Mangano and I bought her mop on QVC many, many years ago. I enjoyed the movie!
"Joy is the story of the title character, who rose to become founder and matriarch of a powerful family business dynasty."
I was able to see two movies on the 5th of January. I went to the afternoon show of Joy and then I meet Mark at Chili's for a quick bite to eat.
We went to see Quentin Tarantino's The Hateful Eight. All I can say is that we really liked it. You have to be a fan of his work because his movies are very bloody. The dialogue in this movie was excellent.
"In the dead of a Wyoming winter, a bounty hunter and his prisoner find shelter in a cabin currently inhabited by a collection of nefarious characters."
The next movie is The Revenant. This movie was excellent and I hope this is Leonardo DeCaprio's year for an Oscar. He already won the Golden Globe! It is not an easy watch but definitely one to see.
"A frontiersman on a fur trading expedition in the 1820's fights for survival after being mauled by a bear and left for dead by members of his own hunting team."

So the Oscars are Feb. 28th - thanks for the info. My hubs wants to see Revenant. I have to say the only one we have seen so far is Star Wars and we really enjoyed this one - I did not like the last three movies - this one was like the first three.
I haven't been to the movies in a long time. I haven't even seen Star Wars yet! :)
My mom would do that. She would see all the nominated movies. I personally haven't been to the movies in a long time.
I wouldnt be able to handle the Reverant just because of all the animals in it & the stuff happening to them. That scene they show where the horse goes over the ends of a mountain?NOPE...
I wanna see JOY just because I love JLaw so much
several of these i'd like to see - the housing bubble one i think i'd enjoy having worked for a national homebuilder for over 17 yrs. and want to see h8ful eight.
Hi,
I have heard so much about Revenant. Did you have to close your eyes at all while watching?
My boys enjoyed the Star Wars too. I am with you, I liked Rey and Finn.

I think that The Big Short would be most interesting to me of those listed. I like Christian Bale. I know DiCaprio is excellent, but not sure if like the setting or plot. Did you see 13 Hours?
I've been curious about The Big Short--love Steve Carell. I also love Jennifer Lawrence, but I haven't seen very many of her movies. She always lights up the screen. I remember catching her in an old episode of Medium (she was on two episodes, playing completely separate characters) and even back then, she had that "it" factor that set her apart from everyone around her.
so glad to see you are back to your "NORMAL" self and going to the movies. the only one here that i would like to see is Secret in their eyes.. that is my type of movie..
PS i like that you see all genres as they come out and enjoy all of them
Good morning....hubby and I have seen several of these movies as well. We loved star wars, and Joy, and last week-end we saw the Revenant. Leo was excellent in it. It was good, but long and draining, lol. Not one of those I could ever watch again but I am glad we saw it. I personally hated the big short but hubby loved it. I found all the financial stuff boring and the movie too long. Enjoyed your reviews...Have a good week!
It should be an interesting Oscars program this year I think. Lots of good movies out there currently :) We did see the new Star Wars one and I too enjoyed it; interesting twist I didn't see happening (don't want to give away any spoilers, but I think you'll know what I'm talking about).
Hope all is going as well as it can be going.
betty
great reviews.
None of those really have me going: yes, want to see that. I saw a film on television the other day and was sorry I hadn't seen it in the cinema though: Kingsman with Colin Firth and Samuel L Jackson. Very action packed, very bloody, but very very funny!
I remember when the Oscars was appointment television! Now, not so much. We've not been to the theater in ages and, in fact, I've none seen any of the Star Wars series. Your first review sounds intriguing!
Always appreciate your thoughts about the movies Debby. We are looking forward to warmer temps when we will be able to catch more movies downtown.
I know it's shocking but I actually saw one of these! We took the boys to see Star Wars. We all enjoyed it.
I did get out and see Star War's but the rest will be redboxed :)
