WEDNESDAY HODGEPODGE

Volume 253
Thank you Joyce....
Join in the fun!

1. Share a winter memory from your childhood.

I don't know if I have just one. I remember Winter being fun with ice skating and sledding. I grew up in Illinois and lived there for 38 years of my life. I experienced some record breaking blizzards.

2. What was on your blog this time last year? (Besides the Hodgepodge of course!) If you weren't blogging, what in the world were you doing with all that free time?

I had a post called MAYBE. Sounds like what I posted on Facebook on Monday. Wanting to go to the show but didn't have the energy. I said "No more pajama days for me" so I sound like I may be in the same rut I was last year although I seldom do pajama days anymore.
3. Ellen Goodman is quoted as saying, 'We spend January 1 walking through our lives, room by room, drawing up a list of work to be done, cracks to be patched. Maybe this year, to balance the list, we ought to walk through the rooms of our lives...not looking for flaws, but for potential.'

Do you see more flaws or more potential in your life at the start of a new year? Have you done anything specific this month to address either one? Does the new year truly begin for you on January 1, or is there some other month of the year that feels like a fresh start and new beginning?

I always see the flaws but this year I am trying to look at the potentials. Haven't done anything yet. No my new year never starts on January 1st, too many things to put away after the holiday. I'm just looking into starting now!

4. Who's an athlete you admire or respect and why?

I really don't feel qualified to answer this question.

5. Do you like cream in your coffee? Whipped cream on your pumpkin pie? Cream cheese on a bagel? Sour cream on a baked potato? Cream of wheat for breakfast? Have you ever had a scone with clotted cream? Of all the creamy foods mentioned, which one sounds most appealing to you right this very minute?

I'm not much of a coffee drinker but when I do I like cream in it. Yes I like whipped cream on my pumpkin pie. Yes to cream cheese on a bagel and sour cream on my potato. I like cream of wheat but haven't had any in a long time. I love a scone with clotted cream and would love to have one right now!

6. Where were you last kept waiting for 'hours on end'? Or for what felt like hours on end? How well did you cope?

Nothing recent is coming to mind. Most of the time I cope pretty well when it comes to waiting. Where I wouldn't want to wait would be in an emergency room.

7. Believe it or not, when next week's Hodgepodge rolls around it will be February.Huh?!? Bid adieu here to January in seven words or less.

Go away, our hearts are broken. I can't believe it is going to be February already.

8.  Insert your own random thought here.

Good morning, Debby. Yes, waiting in an emergency room is the worst. Chris had a kidney stone once and was in terrible pain and it took him forever to be seen. I can only imagine the kind of snow accumulation you saw living in Illinois...this Southern gal would never survive! Continuing to pray for your broken hearts to heal.

Love your random Debby.

Thank goodness we are having a mild winter in Illinois this year! The past few years were rough!

LOL on the random :) I hope February is a kinder month for you all! I liked that question about flaws/potential. It gives one to think about how they see themselves and their lives. Great you are looking at the potentials rather than flaws.

he he he so Alice finally made it to the moon. i loved that show..
i love all the cream you do and have never had a scone or cream on it but would love it if i did. i love all things cream.
funniest child hood memory is my mother, when I was 10 years old, which made her really old at 30, sliding down the mountainside on her backside in a pile of fall leaves, laughing her head off.

Oh Debby, I'm so sorry for your heartbreak, and pray the year brings healing and peace. I love your random funny : )

I hate the wait in the ER or medical office, it feels like you're there longer than the actual doctor visit. If you're in the ER you barely see the doctor and mostly nurses who come in every once in a while. I can understand they're busy but they should have more nurses or assistants on hand.

like your random thought, lol

I am so sorry your January has brought heartbreak to you and the family. That is never something one wants to experience as any time of the year, but especially right after the holidays. Those are supposed to be joyful times. Thinking about you.

It doesn't sound like January has been kind to you. Perhaps February will be better.
I do enjoy a "pajama day", every now and then, especially in winter.

Alice finally made it to the moon - love it. And I am with you on there reams too! I hate waiting in the ER too - I can never figure out what in the world takes so long. I hope February turns out wonderful for everyone there.

That cartoon is hilarious! Lol I can certainly relate to your answer to #3. I'm finally getting done with Christmas and company and suddenly find out that January has started without me!

I think one of my greatest pleasures are pajama days. ("Ja-ma-ma's" I used to call them.) Maybe it's the (winter) season, but some days I come home from work and go straight for my pj's!

My hubby also spent 30+ years in Illinois (Chicago, actually). Do you happen to recall the blizzard of 67? He talks about that like it was the plague or something ... spoil spot. (JK)
Sometimes I wonder how old you have to be where snow's no longer fun?

Sorry that January has not been great. I hope things improve. I might have to google Alice Kramden to see what the joke is - I assume it's an American thing as it didn't mean anything to me :(

Hi there, I understand wanting to be done with February; last year at this time I was anticipating my surgery and pretty concerned with the potential outcome. God be glorified though, it wasn't what the doctor thought. Hope you have a good weekend and that February is a better month for you.
Hugs,
Noreen

Cream in my coffee and cream cheese on a bagel... definitely.

I hope you have a lovely weekend... :)

Haha, I love The Honeymooners! Took me a second, but I got it ;) Pajama days make me feel lazy, although I like one every so often. I've tried something new- changing into house clothes when I get up if I don't plan on going anywhere. I think it is better. Now if I can only get to exercising- ugh. Hope you are having nice weekend :)

Hahahaha! That cartoon is hilarious! I used to see flaws all the time too, but never did anything about it. I guess I should start now. ha! All this Cream of Wheat talk has given me a craving. I've got to go get some now. LOL
