WEDNESDAY HODGEPODGE + AMBER'S BIRTHDAY

Volume 266
Thank you Joyce!

1. Tell us about a time you found yourself 'in the middle of nowhere'. Was this deliberate?

I wouldn't say we were in the middle of nowhere but we were in Nebraska back in the 70's in a terrible snowstorm in very open spaces.

I was driving and we skidded off the road into a ditch. Believe me it felt like the middle of nowhere! No it was not deliberate......

2. What's something you're 'in the middle of' today or this week?

Taking care of Skye with all her medications after having a clogged anal gland. Luckily we got her to the vet in time and the doctor stayed to help her. We had a recheck appointment yesterday.

It is way better but she needs to be checked again next week and was given more antibiotics.

3. At what age do you think 'middle age' begins? What does it mean to be 'middle aged'?

I'm just going with Wikipedia....."The US Census lists the category middle age around 45 to 65, while prominent psychologist Erik Erikson saw it starting a little earlier and defines middle adulthood as between 40 and 65." All I can say is that I am still middle aged!

4. Ravioli, stuffed peppers, samosas, deviled eggs, steamed dumplings, pierogis, or a jelly donut...your favorite food (from this list!) with something yummy in the middle. Your favorite not on the list?

I'm going with Stuffed Colored Peppers although I do like a deviled egg. Not on the list would be a Cannoli.

5. Albert Einstein is quoted as saying ''In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity.'Would you agree? Have you found this to be true in your own life? Feel free to elaborate.

Sure I agree but who wants to be in the middle of difficulty???? Growth often comes from difficulty.

6. What's a song you remember loving from your middle school years? Do you love it still?

We didn't really have middle school years back in the day. I stayed at the same school from Kindergarten through 8th grade. So I will go with the early 60's and a song from this list which I found. I definitely remember this song and still love it....."The Twist" - Chubby Checker September 24, 1960"

7. May 18th is National Visit Your Relatives Day. Will you celebrate? Which relative would you visit if time, distance, and expense were not considered.

I won't be celebrating today but I will be visiting with Mark's family over Memorial Day weekend and then flying out to Florida on the 12th of June to spend a few weeks with my dad along with my sister and her family.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

Happy 35th Birthday to our daughter Amber....
We love you more than you will ever know. Praying for your happiness always and a fabulous year ahead for you!

She and Dylan just got back on Saturday from a 10 day vacation to Montana and today they are celebrating her birthday at the San Diego Zoo.

40 to 50 is middle age to me, and that is for someone who lives to be 100... can't see how 65 is middle age unless the person lives to 120... midlife crisis starts about 38 to 42 years old, mine did and i have seen many go crazy at that age.
poor Skye, hope the gland is ok now... feed skye pumpkin, that keeps Jakes open.
Happy birthday to Amber and the trip and the zoo would be fine with me...
my favorite food is not on that list, i would pick deviled eggs from the list, don't know what a steam dumpling or a samosa is.. i like perogies, and had never had them until i married my damn yankee

Happy birthday to Amber! She looks so pretty in that picture :) I hope she enjoys her time at the zoo!

That is so true too that growth often comes with difficulty. We might not like that difficulty, but we sure grow from it.

Glad to hear that Skye is doing better!

Oh yeah, let's twist again like we did last summer! Do you remember all the controversy about the Twist? I'm sorry your dog has had those problems. Your daughter is beautiful. Happy birthday, Amber.

Your girl is lovely, Debby! (Do I sound like Streisand in The Way We Were? LOL)

Oh, I can close my eyes and see Chubby Checker doing the twist. Great memories!

Well first of all, your Amber is a beauty! About the snowstorm in Nebraska, snowstorms are serious business there. I wouldn't want to get caught in one, that's for sure. Yikes. Can you believe I've never eaten a canolli? Same with pierogi and samosa. We live in the Scandinavian part of the state, which I think explains it. LOLOL Enjoyed your Hodgepodge, Debby. xo

Nebraska is in the middle of nowhere isn't it?
I have never heard of a clogged anal gland - is she okay?
Middle age 65? 130 years old?
Love to learn you more with your answers!
Love, sandie

Hello,
Your snowstorm sounds scary! I am glad all went well, that is a dangerous area when it snows.
Your daughter is beautiful! Where did she go in Montana? I love Montana. We have a friend who lives in Great Falls.

Happy (belated) birthday Amber!

My favourite food with something yummy in the middle: jelly donut! But not the ones you get in this country, they are foul!

As for ravioli, I remember there was a German series on television when I was growing up. A father and a mother had won a cruise and really wanted to go. Their eldest child was about 15 or 16 and there were about 5 more children. They would be given money to buy food and such for two weeks. But once the parents were gone, they decided that they would spend the money on food: their favourite canned ravioli which was dirt cheap and spend the majority of the money on something really nice (can't remember what it was). By the end of the two weeks all the children were entirely fed up with eating ravioli for breakfast, lunch and dinner. And then mum and dad came back from the cruise and as a treat, they served ravioli!
Well, after seeing that series, we wanted to try this ravioli stuff. Which we did. And hated!! All of us thought it was disgusting and it wasn't until years later I started to appreciate it.

The middle of nowhere in a snowstorm sounds both scary and awesome at the same time :)
