Volume 272
Join in the fun!
As always, thank you Joyce...
1. How did you welcome the month of July, and tell us one fun thing you did to celebrate the 4th. (or the weekend for any non-USA residents playing along today)
I arrived back in California about 1 hour before July 1st so I guess you could say I welcomed in the month by sleeping in my own bed!
We ended up cooking out on the 3rd and the 4th of July. Amber had to work on Monday so we had a double celebration. On the 4th we watched the fireworks from all the surrounding towns from our own backyard.
2. Right now..what's your favorite red thing? white thing? blue thing?
A glass of Red Pinot Noir, my White Birkenstock Sandles and the Blue Sky.......
3. Wave the white flag, raise a red flag, fly your freak flag...which 'flag' have you flown most recently? Explain.
I'm going with "raise a red flag", warning my family about a few things that they didn't do while I was gone!
4. According to Cond Nast Traveler these are the seven best places to visit in July-
a boat safari in Botswanna's Okavango Delta, Riviera Maya Mexico (it's whale shark season and apparently you can swim with them), Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons, Pamploma Spain, St. Petersburg Russia, the Fuji Rock Festival at Mount Naeba Japan, the Salzburg Festival in Salzburg Austria
If time and money weren't factors would you want to see any/all of these? Which would you most like to see and why?
I'm very content with staying in the states right now so I will go with the Grand Tetons. I have been to Yellowstone but it has literally been over 30 years ago.
5. Grilled cheese, pimento cheese, or mac and cheese...your favorite from the cheesy treats listed?
My favorite would be a grilled cheese sandwich.
6. What makes you sweat?
The humidity in Florida makes me sweat! Sometimes you forget how horrible humidity is after living in California for 28 years.
7. Your favorite movie with a 'patriotic' theme of some sort?
I absolutely love Independence Day, the original and I watched it over the weekend. I am also a huge fun of White House Down, I watch it all the time.....
However there are so many great ones:
Saving Private Ryan
American Sniper
Argo
The National Treasure Movies

LOL - wine is my favorite red thing too
although I do love the new red leather chairs we bought
Welcome home! You have such a lovely view! National Treasure (the first one) is a favorite of mine too. Forgot about that one! Hope you're re-adjusting to post-holiday life. Have a great day!
I like your random thought; there is always next year :) I found myself watching Independence Day this weekend too. You know how it turns out, but I'm always fascinated by it. I do like Pinot Noir; very light and enjoyable for some summer meals. We saw the Grand Tetons when we lived up in Montana; very scenic!
betty
Your view from the yard must be AMAZING!! I'm in eastern NC and boy is it humid here!! Glad you had a good trip!
we welcomed july in with the idiot neighbors doing fireworks half the night for THREE nights, even last night...
also we welcomed it with that same humid heat you described, we are sick of the heat already.
july/aug/sept are my three months that i am miserable from the heat. whine over.
if i had that view from my yard i would never go inside, and would not need man made fireworks to be awestruck.
yummy grilled cheese. your backyard view is gorgeous! laughed at the bikini wishes.
Oh my goodness, you did have a great seat for the fireworks, didn't you? What a lovely yard and view.
Love the joke. I would love to tour in the USA too Debby. I like grilled cheese too and a glass of wine - lol. It doesn't take much.
What a stunning sight from your backyard!
"Saving Private Ryan" is such a powerful film, isn't it? That's one I can watch over and over ... and still come away spent.
My boys love Independence Day too. We re-watched the original as well. :-) Did you see the new one yet?
I agree about humidity...Wisconsin has it too.
Have a blessed week!

I lived in CA for many years and the lack of Humidity is the thing I miss most about the southland.
So glad you made it back home safely. I'd love to live someplace with low humidity...
How blessed you are to have a perfect seat for watching fireworks from all around!
Love your random thought...isn't that the truth?! Next year! Ha
What a stunning view you have, you must see fireworks from several directions. We use to go to the highest point in Atlanta to view multiple fireworks displays all going off at the same time. We now live in the mountains but far away from any fireworks. Humidity is such a big part of living in the deep south, I'd love to experience no or even low humidity for a change.
Cheers!

Beautiful view and I'm with you on the red wine. Love the random thought!
What a beautiful backyard and view. I love Birkenstocks. I had a pair but have no idea where they went and that was several years ago. Ha to your random thought. It seems I can say that every year ;)
I haven't been to Yellowstone or the grand Tetons. Hopefully one day!
Haha! I laughed at the closing cartoon. 😀. Thanks for the movie suggestions. I like the National Treasure movies. And although Florida air is probably nicer to skin, i would hate having to fuss with my natural wavy hair every day, trying to get it to behave!
The cartoon was priceless and so me. I agree about the different humidity....just got back from Michigan...and it was lovely....got out of the car....and was sweltering.
Yes to the red wine. I add my white sheets and blueberries.
I discovered this year that we can see local fireworks from the comfort of our sunporch, so we did that this July 4th..
Your backyard is amazing. I don't know if you know this, but I have an OBSESSION with Birkenstock sandals. What kind are your white one?
LOL yeah next year bikini for sure .. hehe my thought in my head at least
