Volume 273
Thank you Joyce :)
1. Do you find yourself influencing your world, or is it more the other way around?
I would like to believe that I am influencing my world......
2. July 14th is National Tape Measure Day...the device was patented on this date in 1868. When did you last use a tape measure? Do you always know where to find one in your house? Tell us one way in which you feel blessed 'beyond measure'.
Actually I used a tape measure just the other day. The bulb went out on our main TV. We always keep an extra replacement on hand just in case. So the TV is on a lovely TV stand in a nook area in the family room. Had to make sure it was centered on the nook after we replaced the bulb.
Yes we can always find a tape measure in several areas in the house.
We have food on the table and a roof over our heads so that makes us very blessed.
3.The Plaza Hotel (Eloise), The Land of Oz (The Wizard of Oz), Narnia (The Chronicles of Narnia), The Hundred Acre Wood (Winnie the Pooh), Wonderland (Alice's Adventures in Wonderland), or Never Never Land (Peter Pan)...which storybook land (on this list!) would you most like to visit and why?
I love The Wizard of Oz but I would really enjoy going through the wardrobe in Narnia!
4. Where and when do you get your best ideas?
I'm going to say in the shower or driving in the car.
5. So what have you been watching on TV this summer? Anything good?
Big Brother on CBS which I look forward to each summer. I'm also watching Major Crimes on TNT and The Housewives of New Jersey just started on Bravo. (only one I've ever followed)
6. 'Don't swim for an hour after you eat', 'Dog days of summer', 'Knee high by the Fourth of July'...choose a summer saying from the list or share one of your own, then tell us what image or memory comes to mind when you hear it spoken.
I'm going with 'Knee high by the Fourth of July' because there was a lot of farm land around my dad's summer home near Antioch, IL. We were adults when he bought the place so our children got to enjoy some really fun times there. Every time I saw a field of corn the phrase would come to mind!
7. In a single sentence, sum up one life lesson you've learned.
You can't fix everything that is broken in your world so eventually there comes a time when you need to focus on just you!
8. Insert your own random thought here.
Adam returned home a day early from his hiking trip at Big Sur. On Friday night while preparing their freeze dried dinners there was an accident with the boiling water which ended up burning one side of his ankle.
Thankfully having thick socks on helped. They had first aid supplies which helped but decided to return home on Sunday.
He went to Urgent Care yesterday to make sure all was well. He has second degree burns but no sign of infection. They said he took good care of it. Should heal okay and got a prescription for some antibiotic burn cream.

Sorry to read about your son's accident. I hope he heals quickly. I do a lot of great thinking in the car too : )
sorry to hear about Adam.. glad he is OK.
I have said 'dog days of summer' several times in the past month because it is so darn hot here. even the dogs hate the heat.
i am with you on having ideas in the shower, and i used to in the car but don't drive enough to have time to have them while driving.
I have seen none of those movies in 3 and never will. i may be 1 of 2 that have never seen Oz, hubby is the other one.. i just used one of our 4 measuring tapes yesterday
Ouch about Adam. Wise for him to cut short the trip and get the burn checked out. I agree with your thought sometimes we just have to work on fixing ourselves.
Betty
So sorry to read of Adam's accident, but happy that he is alright and no infection. Burns are so painful. The corn fields in ILL seem endless on our drives through there to Northern IN. Our GPS takes us right through the middle of one, skirting a small village. It was so strange the first time, but now we look for it.
is it not funny when our best ideas come when we are busy doing something else?? LOl
come see us at http://shopannies.blogspot.com
glad the burns weren't worse! i liked #4 and #7. :)
So sorry to hear about Adam's mishap with the boiling water. Hope he heals soon! Yes, I get my best ideas in the shower, too. Crazy stuff. :)
Yikes ... Just hearing about burns makes my knees feel watery.
Glad to know Adam's going to be OK!
LOVE your (#7) life lesson.
I'm sorry about your son's accident, but glad he showed more common sense than my hubby when he got burned last month.
Another one for Narnia. Doesn't anyone want to visit Pooh with me?
I am sorry that Adam was injured. Boiling water is no fun. I've been there. I hope that he will heal quickly and that the pain has lessened for him. I healed pretty quickly after my incident.
I think it would be cool to go to a magical place by walking through a wardrobe, but I would definitely need assurances that no spookies could get through to my usual side of it!
Have a blessed day. :)
Oh man. Burns are serious things and I'm glad he had the sense to not put off taking care of it. You're right. If all of us would work on ourselves, and not trying to fix others, we might make a little progress. I want to go through the wardrobe too.
Your life lesson is a good one, and I agree.
So sorry about Adam's accident, but glad his ankle is going to be okay. Burns can be so painful!
I think of you every time we watch Big Brother, because I know you're a fan, too...
Kathy
So glad Adam's burn isn't infected. That can get bad, quickly. I agree that we can't fix everything. I stopped trying years ago. Unfortunately, they still come to me to get me to try. Do they ever grow up? Ha!
"in the shower or driving in the car" - me too Debby.
And we love Major Crimes. ツ
Seems like a lot of people get their best ideas in the shower. My guess would be it is because of the quiet and relaxation. Glad Adam is okay, that must have been scary.
I have a question - are you on blogspot - when i go thee the photos are so big - do you see a change?
Anyway I don't want to use a measuring tape.
I love Big Brother but I would like Frank and Paul out! But I don't think that will happen tomorrow.
Do you watch Zoo by James Patterson?
And no you are right - you can't fix everything can you?
Hi,
I am praying for your son. I had a burn once as well. Nasty stuff, so I know the pain he has.
I liked your #7!!
Carla
Yikes! Burns hurt so bad. Did he have to hike far after he burned his ankle?
I can never find our tape measure when I need it.
Ouch about Adam. Poor thing. I hope he's healing up.
I use a tape measure all the time. Both a cloth sewing type one around the house (it's in my sewing basket) and a metal one for various projects (two of them, in the garage).
So sorry to hear about Adam. Hope he heals nicely.
I would love to visit the 100 Acre Wood. Meet Winnie and Piglet and Eyeore. That would be fantastic!
I used a tape measure just the other day. To measure my waist, since everybody keeps saying that I loose weight, but my scales do not support it. Perhaps measuring in centimeters will prove that I am...
Oh thank goodness he is okay. What a rotten way to end a camping trip, but sounds like he made the right choice to get home and have it looked at!
Bastille Day...as well. Debby, I always enjoy your Wednesday Hodgepodge, curious and enjoyable. Tape measure in my purse, comes in handy all the time.
I want to believe I influence my world; Lord, may it be so!
Please, may I go to Narnia?
Driving for good ideas...when it's dangerous to reach for pen/paper.
Is it worth having television? I gave it up more than 2 years ago and, only sometimes, miss it.
My parents always say, "You'll learn the hard way or the easy way but you will learn."
Prayers for your son!
Oh no, I'm so sorry to hear about the burn. I'm glad it didn't get infected.
Thank God for his thick sock! Glad no infection!
