My sister had a party on Saturday afternoon for our dad. We celebrated his 94th birthday with their children and great grandchildren.
My dad's birthday was the next day June 25th. We took him out for a prime rib dinner and he enjoyed both celebrations!
I've taken my dad to church the last two Sunday's. He really enjoyed that. My brother in law took him the Sunday before I arrived and that was the first time he had been to church since January 20th when he fell and broke his hip.
I took him for pancakes at McDonald's after church and also picked him up his favorite chicken sandwich on Monday after we took a drive to see the water. He also enjoyed picking up some things at the dollar store! It is a bit tiring for me but I am managing pretty well so far.
My dad is doing pretty well at living alone. He is making his meals, doing his laundry and getting dressed on his own. My niece comes in to clean his house and gives him a shower twice a week. He is mainly using a metal walker and improving all the time.
This guy bugged me while I was taking groceries out of the car.
He won't leave us alone! Apparently people must be feeding him. He is not super tall, he is balancing on the bush. He could hear us talking on the porch.
I've been watching a lot of movies with my dad. We try to watch one each night. He enjoys that when I am here. I normally bring the current Academy Award nominated movies from earlier in the year and then several others that I think he will enjoy.
We haven't been doing too many things. I am feeling well rested. I leave to go home on Saturday late in the day. I have an MRI on Monday morning and have a few more doctor's appointments to work out before the knee surgery is scheduled.
Yesterday we took a ride to the Hard Rock Casino in Tampa because that is one of his most favorite things to do. He hasn't been there since last summer when I visited. He played on his first $5. bill the entire time we were there and left $11. up! I wasn't so lucky.....

So glad you are getting this time with your dad and that you are resting up for your upcoming surgery too.
That is so wonderful all that you are doing with your dad. What a super gift to him that you are there to celebrate him and his long life. Blessings to you and I'm glad you are feeling rested. That's great.
Wow - I'm stuck on that amazing bird. I want one living in my yard.
He is a very handsome man :)
Sounds like your dad is doing really well and you're enjoying your visit
So happy you two are enjoying the visit and I love the photo of your dad with his cake. God bless.
Hello,
Thank You for the photos of your sweet dad.
I am so happy the time is going well.
He looks good!

He looks great and I know he is relishing in this time with you. Smooth travels home and hope you can get everything done for your knee surgery quickly.
All good news, Debby! I wonder if someone from his Church wouldn't be willing to stop by and offer him a ride every now and then.
What kind of bird is that? Sounds like you and your dad are doing great things together and having fun! That was neat with the birthday party your sister put together for him too. Its nice to hear that he is functioning better at home and able to do most of his activities of daily living. Now it will be your time when you get home to see if you can get your knee replaced and get some relief of your pain!
betty
this is good news that he is able to do for himself now. and that you are rested and he is having a good time doing things he can't normally do.... that stork should not have been fed. but then you know that. now you pay the price. I don't get why people feel they need to feed wild life.. then they become nuisance and people want them gone. it is sad
Your dad looks great! So happy that you all have developed a plan to help him stay at home. Sounds like you are having a great time; he's probably tired, too... but enjoying all the fun!
I never can get over how your dad looks nothing like a man in his 90s. It must be nice to have that young looking gene. :) Glad y'all are getting this time together! Safe trip home!
Your dad is an impressive man! My dad is 86 and is doing great, I hope he continues with his good health I'd love to see him live into his 90's and be just as independent as your dad is. Good luck on your up coming surgery maybe that curious bird will stick around so you can take more pictures of him, He's kinda cool!
Happy 4th of July!

Glad to hear your Dad is on the up and still living on his own, albeit with some help.
That bird looks quite big and frightening, especially that beak.
Sounds like a good visit.
Happy Belated Bday to your dad!
Great job at the Hard Rock, that is the way to roll!!!
