I am known to be lazy but I have never been as low as I am right now. Lazy breeds lazy and if there was an award given out for this I would definitely win!!! I will have to write a post about this.....
Honestly this year, ever since my dad was found on the floor on January 20th, has been absolutely crazy for me. I feel like I have been on a roller coaster ever since and I'm ready to get off.
I've been wanting to write a post ever since I had my surgery on August 11th and just never got around to it. The longer you let things go the less important they seem to be. Who needs to hear about this now, right? Well I'm going to tell you anyway.....
I'll just give you a few details. I never did post the actual date for my surgery because up until 4 pm the day before it wasn't a go. All the weeks before it happened were nothing but testing and chasing to get everything to fall into place.
I had a urine test come back negative twice. The first time we did antibiotics and I was retested. The results were still off. So the day before they ended up calling my primary doctor to get his okay to move forward. He called me and asked me if I have had any issues. I had zero issues and felt great.
So he gave his okay and finally at 4 pm on Thursday afternoon it was a go! The surgery went great. I absolutely loved the spinal. One minute I was talking to the nurse in the operating room who was putting in my IV and then I was awake in recovery.
Because they didn't have a room available for me I ended up being in recovery for 3 hours and Mark got to be with me so that was fine. I felt really good. The whole experience, after an entire year of getting all the t's crossed, was perfect.
My recovery has been going well. It is five weeks now since my surgery. My range of motion when I went for my first PT was that of a person six weeks into PT. They were giving me high fives. Thankfully the 12 weeks of PT I had before surgery helped along with the class I took at the hospital beforehand. Also I got a few extra tips from the PT in the hospital.
Had surgery on Friday and went home Sunday morning. I was supposed to see the doctor before I was released and he was very upset with the staff for letting me go. He ended up calling me at home which was so nice of him.
As it turned out my case manger at the hospital made a mistake so I never had a nurse visit or PT at home those first two weeks. Thankfully I was given enough items to actually change the bandage at home. When the doctor heard about this at my two week visit he was again very upset and apologized to me.
My knee looks great, the incision is beautiful. Actually my physical therapist Sonya has never seen such beautiful work. I will say this, the PT isn't easy and I do hurt for a day or so afterword's. That is when I will use a pain pill. Otherwise, because I am driving I have to have it out of my system for at least 24 hours before I drive.
I will be going to bowling this week. I went last week but didn't bowl. I will bowl this week and the next week but I will just be standing at the line and throwing my ball which is what I did last season because of my knee. I don't have pain now but there is a lot of discomfort with the muscles having to be strengthened.
Did I tell you I got a recumbent bike? I found out during my PT before surgery that I could ride a recumbent bike and not get winded. So now I can get some exercise at home which is definitely something I need. I've actually lost 5 pounds!
Okay, after writing this post I am a little more inspired to write but I have to admit that having Wednesday Hodgepodge each week has at least kept me going this year. Thank you Joyce!
There are so many beautiful things that have been happening this year as well. Actually tomorrow we are going over to see Adam and Gabby's house that they purchased. We are going to drive to Montana to visit with Amber and Dylan soon. I am going with Mark for a few nights to Las Vegas the week after Montana and then we have the wedding in Cancun coming up in November. God is good!

I have to say you don't sound one bit lazy to me. I'm so glad to hear the surgery went so well and that your recovery and PT are progressing. Gave fun at bowling. I'll be interested in hearing how that goes. Take care my friend.
I LOVE that cartoon and I think you are too hard on yourself girl. You have had a hard year. I am glad you are off pain pills. May I say that bike is awesome and I never have heard of it. Be careful of all the smoking in Vegas. And have fun going on all your trips but TAKE IT EASY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I bet their house was lovely!
You sound in good spirits...so happy everything has gone well with recovery...and having things to look forward always helps...give yourself a break and time to heal.
Mama Beara
So many wonderful things to look forward to in the future! Sounds like your recovery has been relatively okay and you are on board for a full recovery so very soon! How exciting with Adam and Gabby buying their house together! Won't be long before the wedding!
betty
Oh gee! It took me nearly a year before I felt able to do anything. I was operated on in early February (spinals: love them!!) and in June had a mental break down. Then I decided to allow myself to be grumpy and feel sorry for myself until the end of the year and that worked fine. Fortunately both the result of the operation and the mental breakdown ended up great (yes, the mental breakdown was great. Not at the time, but in retrospect it was the best that could have happened to me). And now I feel fine again. It just takes time!
So, if you feel like you're lazy: who cares! You have just had surgery after over a year of trouble, you run from Dad to children and all in between. You deserve a bit of laziness! Just enjoy it. And don't overdo anything.
That doesn't sound like lazy to me. That sounds like a lady who is contantly on the go. But with that being said, when you're always on the go like that you're bound to get exhausted and need some down time. I'm glad you're surgery went to so well.
You wouldn't believe how much I can relate to your title! ... And here, you've great reasons. Me, not so much.
Thanks for fleshing out the details re. your surgery. Tickled to hear of your great progress. I'm afraid I wouldn't be so good at the physical therapy.
Oh my.....wow, so glad surgery is done and over with and you seem to be doing really well now. Do you PT and stick with it so all will be fine.
I'm glad you wrote about the surgery. I'd wondered. I'm so happy to hear you had a good outcome and the PT is going well. And the recumbent bike sounds great1
I'm so happy your surgery is behind you and you have been such a good patient! Back to bowling already... that's incredible. I got a recumbent bike for my birthday in July and was enjoying it until I started having some 'female' physical problems. The bike is off limits for now, but I hope to be able to use it again soon. I love that yours is pink!!
Debby I am so happy!! You sound great. I'm glad after all the work and worry and tests that it is behind you and now all you have to do is "take off".
The bike will be great rehab for you.
I hope you can settle down enough to take care of you and allow people to take care of you.
Love and hugs my friend.
I'm so glad to hear this! The recumbent bike is also great news.
Have you tried icing right after PT? I recall doing a good bit of that, and that so long as I remembered to do it as soon as I got home from PT, it would keep me from getting so achy.
Your story of your surgery is amazing and you have done so absolutely wonderful with it and I'm so glad that you're going to get to see the new house and that you're going to have several trips that you won't be sitting there and getting more depressed. You've had a lot going on in your life since your dad fell and it's time for you to have a little fun time with your family and for yourself.
So thankful your surgery is behind you now. Wonderful news that you can ride the bike and great news on the weight loss. You certainly have had a hectic and stressful year but you do have so many things to look forward to. God bless you.
