On Christmas Eve Mark and I went to Macaroni Grill for an early dinner and then attended a 4 pm Christmas Eve Service at a church we tried out last year. It was a great service. Then we came home and watched Fred Claus.
Mark gets tired of watching It's A Wonderful Life and White Christmas so I changed it up this year for him. As it turned out he came into my office while I was watching It's A Wonderful Life and ended up watching it with me! Then I watched White Christmas, it does my heart good.
Skye is ready for Christmas to start. She is so funny at Christmas. She loves to open presents and she brings a lot of joy into the day.
The presents under the tree are gifts from out of town. The new tree is low to the ground and it was easier to put the gifts in front of a hutch that is in the family room.
We had a lovely Christmas Day. I of course missed Amber and Dylan like crazy but we were able to Skype with them which was wonderful. As it turned out I didn't take a lot of photos but I was definitely present to enjoy each moment of the day.
Adam and Gabby arrived around 12:30 and I had a spread of snacks for us to enjoy. Below are the cookies I baked this year.
Spritz
Mexican Wedding Cookies
Chex Muddy Buddies
Pecan Tassies
Toffee Bars
After our snacks we opened presents one at a time. That was so much fun and everyone loved their gifts. After that we talked with Amber and Dylan. They were supposed to have opened their gifts too but hadn't. Dylan said Amber didn't want Christmas to be over so she didn't want to open them yet!
Later we had a wonderful dinner. We didn't do our deep dish pizza this year. If you have followed me for awhile you will remember that I decided not to do big Christmas dinners anymore because I find myself not enjoying the day like everyone else is.
Since Mark has perfected Filet Mignon on the grill I decided that we would do that for dinner. That way Mark is involved with cooking too! We had scalloped potatoes, sauteed mushrooms, fresh green beans and rolls. It was all so delicious. We had little cream puffs for dessert.
Debby and Mark
Gabby and Adam
Adam and Gabby went home around 6:30 pm. I started cleaning up the kitchen and Mark was sound asleep on the sofa. Some things never change.....
So this one is pretty funny. Skye got this circular porcupine squeaker toy which she loves. She came running into my office this way with the toy in her mouth. I don't know how she could possibly see.

What a beautiful and festive blog post this is. I love your photos and that last pic of Skye made me laugh out loud. Precious. I love those wedding cookies that you made; I think they are one of my favorites of all time. Many blessings to you and yours in the new year.
I really like the way you talk and describe on your blog. Very interesting and I followed it all. Little Skye - how did he see? Sounds like you all h ad a great Christmas! Love, sandie
Oops - wrong account!
Sounds like you had a good time and a great photo of you and Mark. The last picture of Skye with the toy I had to look at for a while before I understood what I was looking at!
Hi Debby, I loved reading/seeing your Christmas-so delightful. What a large spread of cookies; two of mine didn't turn out this year-not sure why, though it's been years since I baked due to being Gluten Free.
Great pics and so nice to see you and Mark. Skye is so funny, but adorable too. Blessings to you as we end this Christmas season and year and begin a New Year.
Hugs,
Noreen
I'm loving these pictures ... especially the last!
M'gosh but I'm gaining weight just looking (drooling) at the images of your cookies.
We've not been to Macaroni Grill in ages. I'm not so fond of pasta, but love the pour-your-own wine and coloring on the tablecloth! :)
What a wonderful Christmas Day! Tucker loves to open gifts and his stocking. He gets an Easter basket, too. Spoiled much? LOL Everyone looks so happy in the pictures! Happy New Year!
It sounded like you had a delightful day celebrating, Debby! My gosh, what a cookie spread! Skye was so cute with how she was holding her toy! Great pictures of you and Mark and of Adam and Gabby!
Happy New Year!
betty
Beautiful tree!
I couldn't make heads or tails of the porcupine photo! :)
I can't imagine having to do a massive Christmas dinner each year: way too much work. I did it this year and quite enjoyed it, but next year it will be something easy for myself (or maybe my sister as well).
As for the cleaning: my sister got roped in to help and I am so happy with my dishwasher. Without that piece of equipment I might not even have done the whole dinner!
Love Skye or is it Porcupye?
Sounds like a wonderful Christmas. All those cookies look so good. That last picture is just too funny. I had a chocolate lab years ago that loved to open presents and would help all of us as well as opening his own. I put gifts in a gift bag for Gibbs and he needed lots of help getting them out...lol
I enjoyed reading your Christmas post! When I saw your picture of Skye on fb, I thought she had been near a real porcupine! I gasped.... lol! Your Christmas looks lovely and I totally get that we shouldn't spend all day cooking while everyone enjoys the day! I with you all the way! Happy New Year!
Sounds like a nice day. It is hard to be away from our children, but it sounds like you're making the day special in spite of the distance. So glad there is technology that allows us to see them and chat! Your pup is so cute with his great big toy! Happy New Year!
skye with the toy is so cute. the food looks divine to me and your menu perfect. the tree behind sky is so beautiful.. Bob sleeps on the sofa off and on all day every day. just wait until Mark retires HA HA ON THAT ONE
Good looking food, great fellowship and presents. Looks like a great celebration for sure! Skye is so cute and I wonder how he saw where he was going as well. New year blessings!
Your treats look delicious! Glad you all had a Merry Christmas.
Filet Mignon on the grill sounds wonderful Debby! Zero degrees in KC, so my grill will remain covered today. ツ
Wish you and Mark a Happy 2018!
Those toffee bars look delicious and Skye is adorable! I agree that big dinners are a ridiculous amount of work. My aunt and uncle spent the whole day cooking and ended up grumpy because of it :(
Looks like it was a great Christmas. I know you missed your loved ones, though. Loved looking at your cookies - we made spritz in Homemaking when I was a teen & I fell in love with them! Never had a cookie press of my own, though. You worked so hard & it paid off!
