1. It's that time of year again...time for Lake Superior University to present a list of words (or phrases) they'd like to see banished (for over-use, mis-use, or genera uselessness) in 2018. You can read more about the decision making process and word meaning here, but this year's top vote getters are-
unpack, dish (as in dish out the latest rumor), pre-owned, onboarding/offboarding, nothingburger, let that sink in, let me ask you this, impactful, Cofefe, drill down, fake news, hot water heater (hot water doesn't need to be heated), and gig economy
Which of these words/phrases would you most like to see banished from everyday speech and why? Is there a word not on the list you'd like to add?

I don't see why unpack or pre-owned would need to banished. I haven't used the other words except for fake news which I'm sure I have said because that is a real thing!
2. What's something you need to get rid of in the new year?
2. What's something you need to get rid of in the new year?
Things I don't need anymore and if you have been following me for a while you will remember that I say this every year. We have too much stuff and you can't take it with you. All it does is suffocate your reality.
3. Where do you feel stuck?
3. Where do you feel stuck?
Obviously I am stuck with the fact that I can't seem to get my act together. I've become lazy but I also don't have the energy most days to do the work that needs to be done. It is not easy living with a chronic illness and it is even harder when your family thinks your okay because you look okay on the outside.
4. January is National Soup Month. When did you last have a bowl of soup? Was it made from scratch or from a can? Your favorite canned soup? Your favorite soup to make from scratch on a cold winter's day?

I probably had a bowl of soup around a month ago. It was not made from scratch. I'm not sure I have a favorite. I don't have soup very often but when I do I add brown rice to it to make it more like a stew.
5. Tell us one thing you're looking forward to in 2018.

Spending time with my children, those are always the best days for me. I also hope to spend time with our family members who are spread across the county. We will be seeing Mark's family in a few weeks to celebrate his mothers 90th birthday!

That last one cracks me up and I'm guilty of doing. Somehow the junk food keeps returning to the cupboards though
Yep, your random sounds like me. lol
I made two soups over Christmas: Oxtail and Pumpkin. Both from scratch and they were lovely.
Love your random thought. My thoughts exactly. Now where were those crisps???
Oh, I def. eat up the junk food before I start eating healthy. Not sure about those words either... nothingburger jumps out at me because I hear it a lot on the news these days.
1. i think all the words are fine, if i like them i use them, if i don't i don't use them. and they are wrong, it IS a hot water heater. LOL
2. is i need to get rid of 20 more pounds
3. i feel stuck on my weight loss
4. I rarely eat soup unless sick..
5. stuck on can't think of anything for this answer.
i have done what your random thought is in the past many times
I feel like I've become lazy, too but then I remember the fibromyalgia which doesn't help because I still, after nearly 20 years of being diagnosed, can't believe it's a condition instead of just me being lazy. I think it's because mine isn't as debilitating as it is with others though it does seem to be worse. Of course, that's probably due to the amount of excess weight and my sugar addiction. Good grief. On the upside, we are getting snow today! LOL Around here the term 'fake news' gets attributed to any news people disagree with. I don't like that.
I know what you mean about a hidden illness. I have arthritis that slows me to a crawl many days. It is hard to keep up with others expectations when your body won't cooperate. I learned to just shuffle along without any apologies.
Happy New Year,
Lori in Blue Ridge, GA
Sending hugs for the New Year Debby. Spending time with my boys is a favorite of mine as well. I know how much it means to you. Will you be heading to Montana this summer?
Carla
Wow, Debbie, you have given much food for thought with the questions. Not sure if I would banish any words, someone needs them, maybe not me but someone. I need to get rid of my spare tire or muffin top as some call it around my waist, see there is some words I would like to banish. I have been stuck for weeks on what to write for my first post of the year but finally I ended up not picking one of three themes that had been rolling around in my head. Potato soup is my favorite. I live with one of my children so I do get plenty of time with them. I am looking forward to an active year since 2017 was not so active due to health issues. and as for my random thought, I kind of like the one you use...blessings.
I like that cartoon - can you believe I just ate the last piece of candy as I have been on the internet??????
I didn't understand any of the words and why they should be banned either!
You will get organized when you choose to - you aren't ready yet.
Love, sandie♥
I made a Moroccan sweet potato and chickpea soup for my baby sister and her new husband when they visited right before Christmas. I like soups more in the winter.
That's exactly what I would do, but I always have junk food in the house. My uncle's partner stopped smoking and he said he likes to have a pack of cigarettes in the house, just so he won't use them. I'm the exact opposite, if I have something in the house that I'm trying not to consume, I'll totally eat or drink it. Having it in the house is the worst.
Love your response to #1, Debby.
I never thought about adding brown rice to the soup ... great idea. (...sez she who likes to chew!)
SWMBO and I are fellow travelers on the chronic illness train. As much as we want to we will never be able to get off this train in this life. SWMBO doesn't look ill most days which belies the seriousness of her illness. It really draws a huge vacuum.
Thank you for visiting my blog page and for leaving a comment. I wish all the best in this new year.
I can definite relate with 'the lazy' these days.
And I didn't know you suffer with a chronic illness. :( Take gentle care of you Debby.
I'm ready for fresh foods, less sugar and less carbs. I feel this way every January but by December am back to saying bring on the sweets : ) Family time is high on my list this year too. Happy 2018!
I had forgotten about covfefe. That was so funny!
Wow that cartoon at the end sounds like many of us!! Hahaha. That was always my plan of attack. I hope 2018 finds you feeling better and also able to sort through the stuff. I'm pretty sure it won't happen at my house until I'm forced to do it. There's always something else far more interesting to do, and life is short.
That cartoon is fantastic! I sometimes claim that, but then I just end up buying new junk ;)
Also, cofefe is too amusing to go away!
So nice to meet you! I love your iconic picture from Ever After - Just Breathe!
I haven't heard of most of those phrases - guess I would get rid of dish!
Speaking of - that is what I need to get rid of - many dishes I have collected (probably so I can buy newer ones)! I did that before and just opened my garage and once my kitchen counter to those who wanted some of my dishes. It was so fun to see them using them over the years.
Loved this post, girl!
I can sympathize! I have Fibromyalgia, CFS, migraines, and Å“steo-arthritis. I have to use a cane now because two years ago, I started falling, and fractured my tailbone twice. I'm thankful for the things I can do, but I'm just so overburdened with 'too much stuff syndrome'. I feel so bad most days, it's hard to get around, but this house is a disaster. If only 1/100th of time that I spend thinking about needing to throw away/donate stuff, maybe it would get done eventually done. I've read whole lists of getting t done, bought a book on organizing---and nothing but DOING gets it done! And still, I don't. Feeling for you!
