WEDNESDAY HODGEPODGE

Volume 354
Thank you Joyce

1.Describe your 30's in one sentence. If you're not yet 30 tell us one thing you hope to accomplish once you hit that particular decade.

Raising two young children plus three dogs in a beautiful house in the beautiful town of Western Springs Illinois. (everything changed in my 40's)

2. Is it harder for you to exercise or eat healthy?

It is definitely harder for me to exercise because of my COPD. Eating healthy is a wonderful thing and I enjoy eating this way. However to loose weight I need both!

3. June 7th is National VCR Day. Huh? Anyway this reminded me of something I saw on Facebook listing household items we no longer have and the VCR was on it. I couldn't put my hands on that list, but found another list here of 21 items we all had ten years ago, but which are now obsolete-

bookshelves (WHAT!!???), drip coffee makers, alarm clocks, file cabinets, desktop computers, printers, printed phone books, answering machines, fax machines, paper shredders, a Rolodex, CD racks, CD burners, china cabinets, home phones, entertainment consoles, DVD players, calculators, takeout menus, incandescent light bulbs, and cable TV

Your thoughts? How many on the list do you still have? Still use?

I still have a VCR but we don't use it. I love bookshelves, I think I will always have them. We have a file cabinet and I love my printer, I use it almost daily. I love my landline and answering machine. We just got a blu-ray player for Christmas and we still get DVD's from Netflix and I still buy DVD's.

I guess we have an entertainment console which our TV is on and of course the blu-ray player and DVR is on. We have take out menus and we love our cable TV.  I am not a fan of TV's on the wall or above the fireplace.

I do understand that most people who are now in their 30's don't have these items but I'm not ready to give up on mine.

4. What's something you see disappearing in the next ten years?

I don't want to know because most likely it will change my life. I don't like change....LOL

5. How did you celebrate your birthday this past year? Is that typical?

If I remember correctly we were in Montana visiting Amber and Dylan. No that would not be typical. I am sure we celebrated with Adam and Gabby too either before or after we returned home.

Normally as a family, before Amber and Dylan moved away, we gather for birthday's and the person of honor gets to pick their favorite restaurant to eat at.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

most of my 30's were a horror best forgotten. of the list this is what I still have. drip coffee makers, alarm clocks, file cabinets, desktop computers, printers, printed phone books, answering machines, paper shredders, address book not roledex, CD racks, CD burners, home phones, entertainment consoles, DVD players, calculators, incandescent light bulbs, and cable TV, so pretty much the whole list. I think that is because of my age. I don't trust online storing of phone numbers and addresses.
I know what we did to celebrate birthday because we never do, so nothing at all.

I tend to resist change as well, and it comes fast and furious now. I feel like I have to embrace it a little or I won't understand how things work that I need to use in my daily life. But I don't like it : )

CUTE cartoon about the protein shakes. LOL It's always hard when family moves away, isn't it. For a few years all of our kids have lived in Minnesota or Wisconsin, which means we were fairly close together. Now one has moved to Arizona. I know you can relate. Hope you have a great day today, and be sure to add half an avocado to your protein shake. I've really noticed that when I add a half avocado to my salad I don't get cravings for things I shouldn't eat. :-)

So good to visit with you this morning. I have to agree with you that at our age (I'm way ahead of you on this) change is difficult; and yet, something changes almost every day, especially health wise. I am just grateful to be as healthy and active as I am and hope to be able to embrace all the new changes yet to come. I enjoy seeing your meals on FB; you are an inspiration.

Your random thought is cute! It is amazing how many things are now considered obsolete that were so popular just a few years ago. I read that Best Buy (at least here in the Phoenix area) were going to stop selling CDs sometime this summer. I would imagine they might make a comeback sometime like vinyl records are these days.

Great answers!! I don't want to get rid of my things either.
Sounds like good birthday memories :)

Haha! I don't like change either and had I known beforehand all that my 30's were to bring, I never would have been able to process it. I guess it's true that when we were in our 30's, things were a whole lot different than when our parents were at that age. And so each generation will consider certain things obsolete. For instance, I don't think I ever used a broom to sweep my house. Also, I have always had a dishwasher and mom didn't. Oh right, she had us. Haha.

I love your joke!
I am glad you are one of the blogs I can post on!
Debby I hardly remember yesterday let alone my 30's.
And most of the things on the list of obsolete - I have - anyone want to make an offer????

LOL

I don't recall anything special about my 30's. It was working and raising kids.
I have 14 out of the 20 things on that list of things people don't have in their house anymore.

I loved my 30’s! Our kids were older and out of that toddler baby stage, we were healthy and busy. I still have most of the objects listed, can’t give them up just yet.

I have to agree with Stacy who wrote (she) suspects that list was compiled by young people just out of high school. LOL! Mine aren't that pretty, but I think bookshelves are sort of comforting. I don't EVER want to give up my desktop computer.

I like my old things too! I was excited to buy my first filing cabinet a few years ago. I can't let technology take away my fun things!! When the system crashes, those 30 somethings are going to be in big trouble!!!😂

I still have many of the things on the list in #3. We actually tried to use our VCR the other day to watch the video made of pictures of our lives that was played at our wedding. We got it to work on my Mom's VCR and tried to convert it to DVD and it didn't work when we got home. We will have to try again!

I had both my boys in my 30's, so it was a time of raising young kids for me, too. And when I became a psychologist.

I still have bookshelves, a drip coffee maker, a desktop computer and printer, entertainment consoles (record and CD players), DVD player, calculators, and cable. And at work, also an answering machine and paper shredder. I apologize for none of it!

I agree with the TV over the fireplace.
I will always have a bookshelf. :-)
I am with on change too.
Love, Carla

This whole COPD business just complicates everything, doesn't it? It is very frustrating. We may be able to lose weight with a healthy diet, but we'll be like a Shar-Pei dog, way more skin that body, without exercise to tone up along the way. There are surgeries to remove the extra skin, but those don't always go well. COPD just messes everything up all the way around, but somehow, we'll get this figured out. You're in my prayers. Have a blessed Sunday.

I notice you don't have this week's Hodgepodge up.
I hope everything is ok?!
