1. Expect the unexpected on From This Side of the Pond. Here's my x-ray question...when was the last time you felt like Superman? What's your superpower? Explain.
I'm thinking it was probably last summer when I was Superman visiting my Dad. I think I stayed just short of 3 weeks. I have good days and bad days with my COPD.
When I'm in Florida it takes a lot out of me. I also do bigger batch cooking so I can stock his fridge with meals. At home I can sit and do nothing if need be.
I try to take my dad places and I did some appointments with him last year to give my sister a break. (She and her husband have been Superhero's)
Believe me, my time with my dad is the best, I loved every minute of it but I really have to use my superpower to get through it. I use a high level of adrenaline each day. I come home exhausted.
2. Are you a fan of the 'superhero' type movies? If so what's your favorite?
I will say yes we are although we do not run to the show needing to see them immediately. We often see them on DVD from Netflix.
However I myself do run to the show to see Spider-Man and Ant Man. Two favorites of mine and I have liked three of the men who have played Spider-Man. Ant Man is Paul Rudd and I see all of his movies!
3. Have you postponed or cancelled a trip to the dentist in recent weeks, and if so when do you think you'll feel comfortable going back? How about other routine medical procedures?
I haven't cancelled a dentist appointment but I did cancel several doctor's appointments and I have one more to cancel in May. I will add that I felt good, and they were just follow ups so I didn't go.
One in particular I wish I didn't have to cancel, that was my gel injections for my knee. You do them 3 weeks in a row. I had one and then we were on lock down so I cancelled the other two. As a senior who does not have good health I don't see myself going to see any of my doctor's for awhile.
I am not going to feel good about going back anytime soon but I do have to go on the 13th for further testing on my right breast. There is no distancing in that procedure. Mark is going for an MRI. We are going together and I'm going to be very strict about how they are handling it. I may even bring my own thermometer!
4. What's something that makes you feel youthful? Something that makes you feel 'not so youthful'? Tell us why.
I'm not sure....let me think about this. Okay I'm thinking that maybe going on vacation makes me feel youthful and maybe swimming. Not so youthful is all the doctor's appointment each year.
5. I feel compelled to include some sort of corona related question in the HP these days. What's the strangest thing you've seen in relation to the virus? Something that really struck you as odd, made you stop and think, 'Dorothy we're not in Kansas anymore?'
Nothing is not coming to mind but I am going to say that I am beyond angry at all the people who are not wearing masks. Why don't they get it???
Okay something just came to mind, we have been going to Adam and Gabby's for social distancing visits. We take the fast track, pay the fee and get there in 25 minutes, otherwise it could take over an hour and that's going opposite the normal traffic for the day.
We have not used the fast track the last 3 times and believe me that is a "Dorothy we're not in Kansas anymore!"

LOL, your random thought cracked me up. I don't think I've ever seen any of the superhero movies and never wanted to
the last thought was so funny I forgot what i was going to say.... the odd thing about superhero is, as a child i had every superman comic that came out. but as an adult I just can't watch the superhero which makes no sense because i love Bruck Willis movies and they are unreal like the supeheros.. i can't think of a superpower for myself, and agree you and your family used yours while caring for your dad. i did not cancel dental but did cancel 2 of mine and 1 of bobs for derm doc visits and 6 months check ups.
Loved the random thought - we all need a laugh to keep us going at the moment.
Talking with the voice of my brother right now who is a neurologist. He is seeing way fewer patients right now because they are afraid to either become ill or to put strain on medical personell. He says that is a worrying situation as plenty of people do need help and do need attention. My advice would be to try and do it by phone if it is a follow-up appointment, but if it does need medical treatment: go! You might be even worse off if not and could set you back a great deal. If you do not trust it: don't just cancel, but call and talk about it. There might be other ways to get treatment. But don't neglect your health by worrying about something else that 'might' threaten your health.
Wow, that has to be unreal with the traffic in your area being so light!! Good though you can get to Adam's and Gabby's "free" so to speak! That is funny with your random thought; we need humor these days! You definitely were a super hero taking care of your dad last summer but I know you do not and will not regret any minute of the time you spent with him.
betty
My grandson loves those action movies - so we watch them now more than ever - since the virus has us all tucked in.
Whose temperature are you going to take when you go in?
I pray for GREAT results.
If you wear a mask could you get your knee shots?
sandie
3 weeks of care-giving and cooking would be a Big Deal for anyone … never mind someone with COPD. Yep, you were indeed a Superhero. I hope that gives you some peace of mind, knowing what pleasure you brought your daddy.
I, too, am behaving like a momma bear about Tom not taking unnecessary risks.
I need my mammogram as well and would like to wait, but I have had issues in the past so know I should go ahead and schedule it. I will wear a mask and I'm sure the tech will too. I know you are missing your dad. Hugs to you Debby xo
That is superwoman what you do in helping out your dad. Your random thought is cracking me up. Hope the rest of your week is good!
Loved your random thought poster. I have put on more weight lately than I know I'm going to want to take off when this is all over. Perhaps I don't need to wait that long. Love that little James for me.
Your random is so funny Debby!
Sending hugs to you, I am happy you are sharing your thoughts about your dad with us. I know how special of a friendship you had with him. I was that way with my grandpa.
Glad you could share time with your dad.
I liked your random thought. We all need
a laugh these days.
Stay well and keep safe.
Sorry I was out of blogland for a bit. So sorry about your father. He sounds like such a wonderful father and I can't imagine not being able to be able to be there. I hope you find peace during this time.
Hugs and love my friend.
I have had to cancel a few appointments.
Some I didn't have to cancel, but they'll be telehealth.
I can't understand why some governors are opening up their states.
Have a blessed day, Debby!
I enjoyed reading your answers.
When we hiked yesterday, I felt definitely NOT youthful by the time I finally got to the top of the ridge. I was exhausted!
I have postponed both my GYN and my oncologist appointments because of the pandemic.
