TUESDAY 4

Hello and welcome back to Toni Taddeo's Tuesday 4 kept in her memory .  We give you 4 things to think about each week and hope it spurs you to blog, connect with fellow bloggers and just stop and reflect!

December is a month filled with religious significance for so many. Christmas(Dec 24-25) and Chanukah(Nov 28-Dec 6). Christians speak of the light coming into the world at Christmas and

Chanukah is the festival of lights when the light was returned to the  newly cleansed temple in Jerusalem. So they have a common connection.

1. How much importance do you place on December holidays?  Do you plan and prepare? Is that part of the fun for you or would you rather dispense with it?

I love Christmas. Yes I plan and prepare. I could never dispense of it!!! We have about 20 family members out of town the we send gift cards to. Our immediate family we go all out!!!

2. Food is a big part of the holiday season.  Which foods and treats do you most look forward to having?

Yes and no. We would make a big dinner and I would bake a lot of cookies. Then I decided I didn't like that because I was in the kitchen all day while everyone just had fun.

Then we went to a pizza dinner instead of a special roast of some kind. I wanted to be part of the day and not spend my day in the kitchen.

3. It is a season for family, friends, guests and giving.  Would you write a bit about how it all comes together for you in December?

Years ago we would all be together in Chicago. Then we eventually all moved away. We have family in Arizona, Texas, Illinois. Florida and Montana. We have Adam, Gabby and James here so we do meet up with them.

Everyone else gets packages mailed to them. I loved it in days gone past when we all lived in the same place

4. Life changes and traditions alter due to those changes. Has anything changed for you and if so how? If not, would you mind sharing your traditions with us?

Everything has changed. We make do and accept what we have to accept. I can't say that I am happy about it. My biggest regret is that our daughter is in Montana and not able to enjoy the joys of James.

Thank you so much for keeping this meme alive. If you have topics or subjects you would like to see here, let me know and I will be happy to accommodate you. I don't ever want this to become dull or boring and that can easily happen. Your input is important and your participation means so much to me.

Thank you Anne.

There has been a lot of change in how I've spent Christmas. It's a more relaxed low key kind of thing now.

Fortunately we never HAD TO visit family over Christmas. It was special, but never that special. Birthdays were more important to them (my maternal grandmother had hers a week before Christmas).
For years I celebrated on my own, but after I moved away and had a big operation I am more likely to celebrate with somebody else. This year my sister will finally get here again (whatever Covid is throwing at us, she IS coming) and we will hopefully be able to celebrate with my parents and my brother and his family. Not a clue as to what we are going to be fed, as most of them are vegetarians.

After I moved into my own home at age 19, we continued what Mother insisted on, which was family together in her house, gifts and decorations, the family grew and when my kids came along, my kids had to stay in their bedrooms while mother and dady drove 2 miles to sit and watch them with gifts like they did us. all that ended in 1980 and then in 1984 met bob and each Christmas it was us and my 2 sons and their wives. then in 2006 we quit doing Christmas completely. everyone is grown and we found buying gifts people did not want or exchanging gift cards was the same as saying here is 25 dollars, now you give me 25.00. we love it this way

I hear you about things changing and we used to have big family gatherings in Chicago too. Things do change don't they? I love Christmas and I love food! We cooked for Thanksgiving but for Christmas we are going out!

I love the idea of you sitting and enjoying your family and the camaraderie -- v. working in the kitchen. Pretty sure, it's your company folks will remember, not what they ate.

I do enjoy Christmas and have to adapt to the changes as well. I think the best thing I ever learned was that Christmas was a season not just a day.

Christmas has changed over the years for us too.. but I am so happy we still get together someway ~ somehow.. even if it is just a few of us.

I like the idea of the pizza dinner or something simple so you don't have to be cooking all day. We did lasagna a couple of years ago, and that was really good, but it does still take some preparation...but not as much as a big dinner. All the baking needs to be done ahead of time. Yeah, we do change as the years go by and we adapt to what works best for our own families. But the important thing is to still recognize the significance of the day...the Birthday of Jesus! Have a blessed and wonderful Christmas season.
