This week, let's talk about your home town or home state.
1. What was your hometown like? Or home state or both!
It was a nice town although we didn't really have something like a main street for shopping. This was in Illinois.
2. Did you enjoy where you grew up? Why?
Yes, I did enjoy growing up there. I was a block and a half from grade school which went from kindergarten thru 8th grade. I could walk to school and go home for lunch. I had a lot of friends who I still keep in contact with.
3. How much did where you grew up shape you?
I lived there until I got married so I believe it totally shaped me! We had a nice church we attended and people were very friendly. Let's face it, growing up in the 50's, 60's and 70's was pretty awesome.
4. What were some of the best and worst things about where you grew up?
The best was the 4th of July doings. They lasted all day long. Also we could actually walk through the woods and go to the Brookfield Zoo which is a well known Zoo. I don't have anything bad to say about where I grew up.

I did not know you grew up in Illinois, wow on walking distance to the zoo. I would have liked that.
my childhood was divided into 4 different places. birth to 19 Savannah GA 10 to 13 Clear Creek KY, 13 to 15 Sloans valley KY and 16 to 39 back in Savannah, then here to Florida for 37 years now. ahhh how i love being in one place
I could feel the nostalgia. I sure miss those days.
I didn't realize you grew up so close to me, Debby! Does Michigan City ring a bell? :-) I agree with you... the 1950s were an amazing & wonderful time to grow up. ~Andrea xoxoxo
It was awesome to grow up then!! I also grew up in a small town and loved it.
Pretty much birth to 7th grade I lived in a suburb of San Francisco.
I was happy there, had lots of neighborhood friends and it was a great place to ride my bike and roller skate. Schools were not the greatest but i liked school for the most part so I made the best of it. Folks didn't like the middle school system and the politics of where we lived so we moved to another "bedroom community" out side of San Fran. Went to great schools and wonderful church that really shaped who I am today. Lived with my parents there until I got married.

I have never lived anywhere other than Pennsylvania. I've always lived in the same county as well.
I've blogged about my own hometown on several occasions -- but enjoyed learning more about YOU. Like I commented on another blog, it sounds like your Fourth of July festivities might be something right out of a Hallmark movie.
I love small towns. Your town sounds lovely. Loved your answers! Have a nice week.

Sounds like you had a idyllic hometown too. So many of us who grew up in the same era have very good memories of our small towns. I think it helped shape us into the friendly ladies we are today, and our blogging family is kind of like our small town. We can sit on our porches here and visit back and forth and learn about each other's lives, both the good, the bad, and even the ugly. But because we learned at an early age to care about other people, we are able to relate to one another and I find this very very enjoyable indeed. Have a blessed and wonderful day my friend! It's been nice visiting with you today!
Your town sounds sweet. I think it would be fun to walk through the woods to the zoo.
I've lived so many places growing up I really don't feel like I have.a home town. I think that's one of the reasons I wanted to give that to my sons, and I stayed put until the last one graduated high school.
