Welcome Friends.. to Toni Taddeo's Tuesday 4.
Let's discuss Christmas!
1. Is your tree up? How tall... what color lights? Is there a color scheme you use?
Yes, I started early this year. I have a 7 1/2 ft tree, a miniature tree and a 4 1/2 ft tree. No I do not use a color scheme. I have an extremely large collection of Hallmark ornaments.
I also have about 400 ornaments that I don't use anymore. I used to have a 9 ft tree. Then I went to two 6 1/2 ft trees. Now I have what I pictured here today.
2. Got a menu for Christmas Eve and Day?
Actually on Christmas Eve Mark and I will be alone. Well actually we will have Adam and Gabby's dog here for a few hours while they go to a family party. We are going to make a Prime Rib.
Let me explain something about Christmas Day. We made big meals every Christmas and then several years ago I decided I was done. I wanted to be part of the party too!
So we went to having Lou Malnati's frozen pizza which are excellent deep dish pizza's. We would also have the normal snacks out before dinner and then we would have salad and garlic bread with the pizza.
We are going to Adam and Gabby's on Christmas day and we are bringing Lou Malnati's pizzas. They too want to have an easy day. There will be plenty of awesome snacks too!
3. When does it go up and how long does it stay up
I had gotten my tree up before Thanksgiving this year. I always keep my tree up for about 2 weeks after Christmas.
4. What is your favorite Christmas memory. When do you open your gifts?
I have a lot of beautiful memories from my childhood about Christmas. However there is something that is rather different and kinda funny. I didn't think anything of it when I was young. It's just how it was.
My parents were very involved with our Presbyterian church. So we would go to church on Christmas Eve. Now when we came home the tree would be lit in the window and that meant Santa came! So Santa never came on Christmas morning for us.
Usually my grandparents wouldn't go to church with us and I assume they set up our toys from Santa. Also I know that my dad said that sometimes he would run home and do it during church.
Thank you Anne.

Your trees are beautiful. My daughter loves the Hallmark ornaments.
I like the idea of an easy no fuss kind of Christmas day. It allows everyone to relax and just enjoy. My celebrations have changed over the years. Years ago when I was married to my first husband it was Christmas eve with my brother, Christmas morning with the kids, afternoon with my dad and evening with the inlaws. After my divorce what day I had with the kids was anyones guess because the ex always wanted to change things at his house. Now I have Christmas eve with the kids and their families here and Christmas day it's just me.
yes, i have a tree, 18 inches tall, bright white fairy lights. no theme, no presents no special dinner. we used to eat out for holidays, but have not for 2 years now. will be having spiral cut ham for the day and whole week . not much choice now and pizza would be what i would love to have but can't eat it now. i miss pizza and burger more than anything.
I bet your house is just gorgeous!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lou Malnati's pizzas sound great for me too. You sound so happy and excited. I hope you have a terrific Christmas.
I love-love-love that tradition about the Christmas tree lights being lit when you came home from Christmas Eve church service, Debby. That is just the sweetest thing!!!! What a delightful memory! It sounds like your Christmas is going to be wonderful this year. I wish you light, love and laughter, my dear friend, during Christmas and always. Love~ Andrea xoxoxo
Your trees are absolutely gorgeous! That was so smart, beginning to buy the Hallmark ornaments when you did, each year adding to the collection! Our tree is quite bare -- only featuring the changing (pre-lit) fairy lights. For some reason I'll all about simplicity this year.
Tom wanted to do a prime rib like he did last year, but I talked him out of it until he's feeling 100% again. Love the pizza tradition!
I am like you Debbie with a million Hallmarks and I have given many to my kids. I have one tree that is just Disney. I have the Disney musical train that came out a few years but I didn't put it up this year. I put Peanuts up this year. I use to buy a lot from the Hallmark off Cajalco. I am going to look at your trees again.
Your trees are always so gorgeous, Debby! You do so much work for them and all your other decorations! I like that you get to enjoy Christmas without being in the kitchen all day! You were smart to come up with that plan years back! I know you'll have a delightful day spending it with James, Gabby, and Adam and of course Mark!
betty
Your trees are beautiful!
I really did love reading your Christmas memory!
Great questions and fun to see how different people celebrate.
Our tree is artificial and almost 7 feet tall. I put it up by myself every years..same tree for the past 20 years. We put on about 2500 lights on it..(see my blog posts on the continuing saga of our tree).
Our tree used to be only Disney ornaments plus a few of the sentimental special ones. Now there are more special ornaments and less Disney. Still love them all and think about the events and people involved with each ornament.
This year will be a bit different than the past ones.
younger son lives in Oregon with his family and is not able to travel down here to celebrate.
The 2 Grands from Older son will be with their in-laws and future in-laws out of state...so its just older son, our daughter in law and Dave and I. We decided to go out for a fancy dinner Christmas Eve and then go to Christmas Eve service at church.
Christmas Day will be brunch snacks and turkey dinner in the early afternoon with son, wife and 2 friends, Easy, quiet and kind of nice for a change.
Favorite Christmas memory is from me being about 9 or 10 years old.
I'm an only child but my folks always made everything very special. Christmas Eve was when Santa came to our front door. He would knock and I would talk to him through the peak hole.
Then he would leave and I would open the door to get my special gift.
That year it was my first 2 wheeler bike. The best gift I ever had.
of course Santa was my Daddy but we always pretended and the tradition just warms my heart when I think about it.
The rest of the gifts were opened Christmas Eve and I always got a stocking chock full of goodies Christmas morning.
Usually friends came to our house to visit or we went to theirs. Wonderful memories of long ago.
