UPDATE ON MARK

Sadly as of today, Sunday, nothing has been done to repair his knee. Because there was not a surgeon available last week Monday to do the surgery they sent Mark home for surgery the next day. Sadly, the ER did not take down the information that was given to them.

So we arrive on Tuesday and after several hours of prep stuff, Mark is taken to the room that you go to right before surgery. The anesthesiologist comes in and mentions blood thinners. Yes, Mark is on blood thinners yet that information was never put into his chart. No way he could have surgery for at least 4 days. Home we go.

Now in case you didn't know this, we were out of our medical group where the ambulance took him.  We still see our primary doctor who is about 25 miles from where we live. We like him and stayed in the same medical group when we moved 16 years ago. Of course when you start going more often to doctor's appointments you start to talk about changing our group to something closer to home.

So we talked to insurance, talked with the hospital, talked with our doctor, etc, etc. The best plan was to start over in our medical group. Mark was rescheduled for Sunday at the hospital out of our plan so we ended up not going there for the surgery. There was a good chance that things may come out of pocket and we didn't want that. However, we did like the surgeon.

So Mark had to continue his blood thinner so if we went to our ER to start over he wouldn't be ready for surgery. So our doctor did a rush on a referral. Eight AM on Wednesday morning with see an orthopedic surgeon. Mark will stop his medication on Monday and hope that it can be scheduled as soon as possible.

One thing that worked out was that the referral doctor would not be able to see him until Friday. So they scheduled him with the other doctor in office. Turns out it is my doctor who did my knee replacement in 2017. So we are happy about that.

So pray that things go well on Wednesday. In the meantime Mark is getting by but is in a great deal of pain. I'm exhausted! This has not been easy and a lot of lessons have been learned. The recovery is rather long and we may have to cancel our trip to Montana. He already cancelled his fishing trip to Canada which he absolutely loves.

On the bright side, Adam, Gabby and James are coming over today. Of course Papa can't play at all. All he can do it sit on the couch with his leg up and keep it iced. Mark and James always, always play together. I do however have a new game for him to play.

How incredibly frustrating for you, Debby! (No doubt for Mark, too -- but this is, after all, YOUR blog. LOL)
Aren't good doctors a blessing? Tom's new Gastroenterologist came highly recommended, but I immediately disliked her attitude. Oh, plus when Tom was talking, she made a point of looking at her watch. Grrrr!

That game you got for James looks like great fun; I look forward to seeing photos of the little pitcher!

I must've missed a post that told about all of this happening, so now I need to go back and read. But meanwhile I will be praying for Mark and for you, as I know what kind of "patients" men can be. Of course, any of us, when we are in pain, are not good patients, especially when we have to keep playing the hurry up and wait game. Praying things all fall into place for him and that the surgery will be very successful. (((hugs))) to you.

Your update is much appreciated, Debby. Yes, I will continue to pray for Mark, and you, too. I know you must be worn out. Hope you can get some help in the house soon.
Blessings!

Maybe it is better to wait for some reason. God has perfect timing and you are in His hands.

I am so sorry he is having to go through all the waiting. Hopefully he can have the procedure much sooner rather than later.
Keeping you both in my thoughts.

That all sounds so frustrating. I hope things go well Wednesday and he can finally get the surgery done.

Oh Boy!! So sorry for all the delay and craziness. Praying that the pain will be manageable until the surgery can be done.
Insurance is such a necessary Evil...Praying for you too. For added strength, patience and a clear mind to deal with all of the ins and outs of Marl's recovery.
(((hugs)))
