1. Let's compare this May to last May. What's changed? What remains very much the same?
At this time last year bowling would have ended and I was not able to go back in September. Because of my osteoarthritis my doctor said I shouldn't bowl anymore.
My whole life has changed and I wish I hadn't listened to him. That was my life for 32 years and my body needed it, along with the social life it gave me.
It has taken months to get to this point, but on Friday I will be getting shots in my back and spine at a surgical center. I have to be off my blood thinner for 3 days which I worry about doing. Mark has to drive me. So say a prayer for me.
Also, I had a shot a month ago in my ankle bone and it lasted 2 days. I see the podiatrist in a few weeks and I'm not sure what's going to happen next. I know that the ankle fusion surgery is a very difficult one with like a 4 month recovery and lots of pain. After that my ankle would not be able to bend. However, living with pain all day everyday is extremely hard. (Sorry to be such a downer)
What remains the same, my love for James and my family.
2. What's something you may do this month?
We have no specific plans this month. Of course we will celebrate Mother's Day. We will be going out to eat on Saturday with Adam, Gabby, James and Gabby's mom Isa.
I'm trying to convince Mark that we need a day out at one of our local casinos.
3. Mother's Day is approaching (in the US of A)...in what way(s) are you like your mother?
My mom was a wonderful women who was very involved in our church. Sadly, as time went on she became and alcoholic like her father. Because of that I have blocked out a lot of things from my childhood.
I think I have her heart for wanting to be there for people that I love.
4. Did you have a favorite book as a child? What was it and why was it a favorite.
I do not remember any favorite book and I am not a reader but I definitely want to get into reading at some point. I have several hundred books on the Amazon app which I paid nothing for or maybe 99 cents.
5. Are you more of a tortoise or a hare? Explain.
I'm not sure but I think I'm learning now, with all my issues with my body, that slow and steady will win this race for me. I've been dealing with several issues since last May and after my ankle went out on me in late November I haven't been able to do much.
I am now pushing myself each day, one day at a time, to get my body in shape with exercise. I can't just sit and do nothing anymore. So even though it hurts, I am walking on the treadmill each day and using my recumbent bike. I am also pushing myself to accomplish a project each day, as simple as dusting a room.

I am so sorry that you are still suffering with your ankle and back. I do hope the shots in the back will help, and I pray you don't have to have the surgery for your ankle. Maybe the exercises you are doing will help strengthen it. I am also sad about what happened with your mother. That is so sad. Alcohol can be so devastating for the people who don't even drink it...the families that are hurt by it, especially children. I pray that somehow God will erase the bad memories and help you remember only the good memories of your mother, before alcohol destroyed her. (((hugs))) and prayers for you. And you are so blessed to have your sweet James and family nearby to enjoy. I hope you have a blessed Mother's Day with them.
Sorry that life is so much different than it was a year ago. Have you ever considered going to the bowling alley just for the socialization. You could sit and visit and cheer on the bowlers.
I remember when I was a child having a book of Mother Goose nursery rhymes. I read those over and over.
I’m sure is discouraging to realize so much has changed in the year. My problems aren’t as serious as yours, but I ve experienced a decline in the past couple years too. Good for you to make sure you get a task done e each day. I need to start making lists and planning for things like that too. Some days slip away and I realize I have been totally unproductive that day. Knowing you’ve done one thing is an accomplishment! I am a book hoarder on Kindle too. I keep telling myself to put this phone down and read!! I’m sure James is a huge part of what keeps you going and he loves you so much! 💗
I am sorry for the bad changes you are going through. That has to be hard. Who coined these the Golden Years anyway?
I am glad you have James for a constant.
I would go to the bowling alley like Ann suggested and just visit. Getting out can help.
Happy Mother's Day - sorry about your mom too - but you did say she was a good woman with a bad disease.
Hi Debby,
I am continuing to pray for your health.
Sorry about your mom. My husbands father was an alcoholic.
Sending you Happy Mother's Day wishes.
Carla
You are so brave to push through with exercise even though you're in daily pain, Debby. Yes, I'll keep praying for you! Happy Mothers' Day!
I will keep praying for you. That's so sad about bowling, and I agree with Ann and Chatty Crone. Is there any way you can keep in contact with your bowling friends?
I'm sorry about your ankle Debby. I know that's a hard thing to deal with and am really hoping you won't need surgery. That sounds like a lot. Good for you trying to do some exercise and also a project. Could you maybe arrange to meet your bowling friends for lunch one day? Happy Mother's Day to you and enjoy your dinner out!
I'm so sorry you're having to life with these life-altering/stifling issues, Debby! My Tom's in much the same boat, but unlike you, he can't (or won't) try to exercise. Debilitating pain isn't something a lot of people (doctor's included!) really understand. I'm praying for you!
Good for you for making those times to do some slow and steady exercise. I pray your body will be strengthened and also that your ankle will get treated some way to take pain away. Sounds like you'll have a nice meal out this weekend. Happy Mother's Day!
Good for you Debbie. Pushing yourself to do a little bit every day really is good for you in the long run. I am so sorry you are in so much pain constantly though. Praying for your shots tomorrow. Praying that they will give you some relief.
Enjoy your family time celebrating Mother's Day. I am sorry that there are issues in your past that make some holidays difficult. Here's a (((hug))) for you.
Sue
Sounds like a fun Mother's day weekend! I second the trip to the casino haha! That is always fun. This year for Mother's day I am going to treat myself and have my kitchen cabinets painted. Hope you have a great weekend!
I have had chronic cervical spine pain since last autumn and before that I had 24/7 from March 2022-Augut2024 cervicogenic headaches. I refuse to get the shots in the spine as it can make matters worse. I do some great back exercises, go to the chiropractor 1-2 x per month (she is amazing and totally got rid of my low back pain). I choose to do all natural supplements although I'm currently on a muscle relaxer and then my primary wants me to try PT. But my chiroprator also incorportes PT so not sure the actual PT will do anything different. COQ10 is amazing and really decreased the neck and head inflammation. But yes I have pain eveyr day in my upper )right side) back. Is most likely from the cord compression and stenosis/herniated disc in cervical area. I will pray for you!!
I pray the shots today make a huge difference. I hope you can get some relief and enjoy some pain free days. Enjoy your Mother's Day weekend. Rest easy!
Yeah it sucks when we follow the advice of a doctor not to do something and that something was one of the things that gave our lives purpose. It also sucks to have so much pain, I hope you have a good Mother's Day
