Skyes of Blue

Skies of blue from my favorite song, "What a Wonderful World This Would Be." Only I spelled Sky after my Cairn Terrier "Skye." (Skyesofblue) So Skye is a very cute active puppy. She is a little over 3 months old and full of all the puppy energy we all know so well. I can't complain because she has actually been very good. She appears to be very smart, she can sit, give paw and almost lay down. She knows what "NO" means but doesn't always agree with it. So Skye and I will be going to puppy school in a few weeks. I thought it might be a great idea to have her learn commands while being distracted by other puppies. Wish me luck! So I have always liked the name Sky and when I was reading information on the Cairn Terrier I saw that they come from the Isle of Skye in Scotland so that is how she became Skye.

I wondered if at my age I should get a new puppy. We have had wonderful dogs over the last 37 years. Lisa (Westie), Abby (Yellow Lab), Zack (Yellow Lab son of Abby), Maggie (Westie) the best dog in the world, and Angel (Yorkie) who passed away last July. Let me tell you that when you haven't trained a new puppy in 14 years you really don't remember the truth. Sure we all love those cute little puppies, who can live without them. Not me, I was in need of a new buddy. I don't work, I am at home 24/7 at least 6 days a week and it was time. I've always been very good with dogs, training them to become the perfect pet. Really, I am good at it! But like I said, Maggie was so far the very best of the best. Maggie in her 16 years of life had an accident in the house maybe 10 times. She would swim like a fish. She would even go into the pool to cool off on a hot summer day. She would jump onto a boogie board or raft and just float around the pool. She was pretty human for a dog. We loved her with all our hearts.

Let me tell you that Abby was a wonderful dog. When she gave birth to her 12 puppies back in the 80's we could not resist keeping one. That of course was Zack a beautiful yellow lab who was attached to his mommy. The trouble with dogs is that they don't live long enough. It just hurts so badly when we have to put them down. You are always thankful for the years with them. I guess that God gave us them for the extreme pleasure and unconditional love. Are people better off not having pets in their lives? Maybe so but I'm not one of them. But I will be honest with you, a non-shedding dog makes life allot easier. That's why I am now into Terriers. And I am very proud of my grandpuppy Charlie who is a West Highland White Terrier.
