THE CONFESSIONS OF A FOLLOWER

Ever since I started blogging I have been addicted to following people. Day after day I found myself hitting the follow button. Then I started getting concerned about how I would read so many blogs each day. Truthfully not everyone blogs everyday so it hasn't been too overwhelming. I definitely make a point of following each of my followers tying to never miss a post. (unless I'm on vacation but even then I try to catch up with them) So now I have encountered a problem. Last night I clicked the button to follow someone and I was told that I have reached the limit of followers allowed. I looked at my screen dumbfounded. There is a limit! So now what do I do. In order to follow more people I have to eliminate people. How do I do that? I think that I may be able to remove a few blogs but how will that help me in the future. I guess what I would like to know is if anyone can give me some insight as to what I should do. Help! Like I said I always follower my followers which only seems right. So what about the people who have 635 followers up to as many as 2384 followers, how do they follow their followers. Do they just go over to people who leave a comment and comment to them on that day, not following them each and everyday? Honest to God I tossed and turned all night over this. Nobody wants to see their number of followers going down when it's supposed to be on the rise!

That is definitely a tough one. I like to follow the people that routinely leave me comments. I have some followers that I would never know if they really read my posts or not because I have never gotten comments from them.

I can't find my blog said...

Google reader. Unlimited, and you can set it to notify you when someone has a new post, eliminating clicking to find no new post. From your gmail page, on the top left, there should be a tab that says "reader"-click on it and follow the directions for set-up. Anytime you want to add a blog just click on the rss button (a square, either orange or blue, that looks like a speaker,) and it will automatically add it to your list. You can also make sub-categories, as well as a host of other customization actions.

I think I have between 200-300 in my reader, but I don't waste time going to a blog when there is nothing new. I love it!

Wait- there is a limit? I am constantly hitting the follow button. I cant believe I'll max out one day! It's hard to follow so many and I have to make sure to log in several times a day or I lose so much. When I was off for a bit, it took me forever to catch up. But they are all important to me and I feel like I've missed talking to a friend if there is a post I havent read.

I had no clue there was a limit.. I am constantly following new people.. hmmm.. if you find out a way around this, be sure to share the solution with the rest of us!!

I didn't know there was a limit either but have also been told to use Google Reader! Hopefully you can find a solution. You are a great blog follower, btw! :)

There's a limit? Aw, great.

Personally, I always return the favor to those who comment on my blog. I also return the favor to those who join my blog, though some people don't do that...heavy sigh. I'll have to check out google reader.

I had no idea there was a limit! I must be close because, like you, I tend to hit the "follow" button a lot!

never knew there was a limit...but I use my google reader too.

LOL- you are so cute! you have to get a feed reader, like google or bloglines!! no limits!! :)

I did not know there was a limit. I read some of the comments and do not know what some of them are talking about either. OH well. I just say read what you can. Find those you really like and who know and talk with and then you will be fine.

Hhhmmmm I am truly stumped.
I never knew there was a limit either.

I also use Google Reader and didn't realize that some others had a limit... Goodness. I don't follow everyone who follows me because not everyone's blog interests me. I don't want to read stuff that isn't entertaining me or inspiring me or making me feel good and sometimes that's just the case. I follow several hundred, probably 500 or so, but have a tight 40 or so that I read every day or so. My favorites.

If someone comments on my blog, it seriously takes several comments by that person before I go over and check out their blog and a few weeks before I follow, if at all. I don't want to rush into a commitment too soon LOL I also need to like what they say in my comment section, too. :) (This could be why I only have a handful of followers! LOL)

Good post! :)

OMG! How stressful - and that you lost sleep over it....that's even worse!! I'm so sorry!!!
But thanks for following me and commenting on me!!!

I had no idea there was a limit. I don't use google reader. Guess I better figure that baby out!

I use google reader because it's the easiest way to keep up with new posts. And anytime I follow someone they feed automatically into it. I never use the follower thing on the blogger dashboard. It's crazy that there is a limit to the following! My only other advice was to set up an extra blogger account and use it in addition to your actual account.

Debby, I never knew there was a limit. I comment back for those that leave me comments. I love reading everyones blogs, and want to make sure those that take their time to leave me a comment, I do the same. Many Blessings,

Ugh! There's a limit? I'm going to be in trouble. I'm going to have to check out Google Reader!

HI there, I stopped over from Heavenly Humor to find out about this 300 following limit. I HAD NO IDEA! I think it's kinda' dumb though...

I'm not really sure how to do Google reader, but I guess I had better start trying to figure it out.

It's nice "meeting" you. Stop by sometime and say hello.

I know, it stinks because I feel like I should reciprocate the following but blogger won't always let me. :(

Debbie Petras said...

I reached my limit of 300 blogs I follow too. If you find out, let us know, OK?

I find myself busy and sometimes don't get to mine each day and I only blog about once a week at times- but I usually find myself clicking on the people who leave comments- gets me quickly back to their blog because I figure they've been on recently... (I had no idear there was a limit either...) hmmmm...

I am now curious. How many blogs are you following that brought you to that limit.

I love when you stop by my blog and it looks like some of your commenters have some great ideas. Google reader is pretty neat....go check it out.

Heart2Heart said...

I am sure it strictly has to do with a capacity issue for the number of blogs that will come up in your reader in order to expedite your blog and blogs you are reading.

Thanks for posting a way around this as I would hate to lose the number of people I enjoy reading.

Wow, I never knew there was a limit to how many blogs you could follow. Maybe you could set up a second blogger account and have a link on there to this one so people can follow you here but possibly allow you to be able to follow more blogs through that account. I don't know if that works or not, you may have a limit no matter how many blogger accounts you have.

I tried following people on Google reader and directly with Blogger, but found it not as much fun to read blogs that way. Instead, I just add blogs to my favorites list as I find them and go directly to the blogs to read them. If I notice they don't update regularly, I'll delete them from my favorites list. I usually do this about once a month. I've only deleted blogs a handful of times for any other reason than the authors just didn't update often enough.

My blog is first of all for me. I write it to please myself, and as a form of therapy for my cluttered mind. I love it when people read and comment...but it's OK if they don't. I always try to comment and read those who comment on my blog. But, as far as worrying about who is following me or who I am following...frankly, that takes too much time, and cuts down on the time I have to enjoy reading. I think the numbers are very important to some people, and that is just fine. But, for me, they just aren't.

I didn't know there was a limit either, i'm constantly hitting follow. I don't leave comments on all the blogs that I follow, But I always read them. UGH! I don't want to be picky. Whatever you choose will be the right decision for you.

Debby this is what makes you so special and sweet! I didn't know there was a limit, but I try my best to follow everyone that follows me. I stop by and comment on some but with my crazy life it is so hard. Some weekends I get on a roll and comment like crazy .. LOL.

Debby you're the BEST! MUAH XOXO

By the way: I got the same background as you! Of all the backgrounds in the world...

That's interesting! I use Google Reader which does save some time of going blog to blog because it only shows you new posts. I had no idea there was a limit of who you could follow.

~*Michelle*~ said...

Oh great......something else for me to stress out over.....I get all paranoid if I "lose" a reader and then backtrack as to who I might have offended.

....off to be a follower of you now! :)

Jenn said...

I heard there is a glitch with the follow button. I can't find the article where I read it but as I remember the number of blogs you can follow will increase when the number of YOUR blog followers hits a certain level.

I'll keep searching and send you the link when I find it!

you are so loyal to all of us and a BIG thank you to you!
I think I am going to only blog on tuesdays and thursdays so that might make it easier for me and my followers since im so darn busy, figure its better than me not doing it at all hu?

I had no idea there was a limit. I use Google Reader to sort through all my blogs and read them. I honestly don't follow all the people that follow me. I'd never be able to keep up then. I think I follow about 140 blogs.

SPEAKING FROM THE CRIB said...

i have never heard of a limit as most of your commenters haven't either - i do follow all of my followers blogs, but that doesn't mean i can read them all, b/c my children do need fed and i do need to bathe once a week. i just respond to all of my comments and if i have time i scroll thru my blog list and read my very favorites and if i have more time, i read all the rest too

momstheword said...

Wow, I had no idea there was a limit!

I imagine the big blogs don't follow everybody and don't comment on every commenter. I have one person's big blog that I read and have commented on before and have never received a comment back. I think they are just to big and don't have time as they get to many comments, sometimes well over 100.

I like to subscribe to blogs thru a reader, it is just so cool so maybe you could do that for blogs that have a feed, so maybe that would work for you?

I know what you mean though. I always feel bad when I don't comment back to every single comment I get that day, but if I did, then I wouldn't be getting stuff done around here.

I almost stopped blogging because of it, because to me, it's important to respond to a comment because people are gracious enough to leave one.

So I felt like I had to respond to every one, and because I couldn't, I decided to quit blogging. Then, one day, I figured I would keep blogging, but not blog as much, and comment back when I could, and just hope that people understood.

I mean, I do. I figure I am busy and so the other person is too, and if they leave me a comment fine, but if they can't, then that's o.k. too.

But, like you, I still had some moments of tossing and turning and feeling bad about it! And my blog isn't even very big, I can't imagine how those big blogs do it!

Hmm, I had no idea there was a limit. I am a follower of a lot of blogs too - not sure the number though. And I love my followers. I try to read & comment of everyone's blogs but there are days it is just impossible. Blogging is a wonderful world of fun & friends and I feel horrible when I can not read or comment daily. I understand completely. You are a great bloggy friend!
