WELCOMING FALL

I personally believe that summer was way too hot this year. I just couldn't stand being outside. So I do welcome some cooler weather. It's 104 degrees today. OMG enough already. I do love the colors and decorations in the fall. I would call them "warm and cozy." Here in southern California the color doesn't change a whole lot. Not when you compare them to Illinois where I grew up. I think it would be wonderful to have a condo across from Central Park in New York. Imagine the colors you would see out your window, wouldn't that be awesome? But just for the record you need to know that I love California. When it comes to snow I have been there and done that! If I have a sudden urge to see snow I can be there in 45 minutes! Same with the beach.

With fall weather we get Santa Ana winds. If we don't get the winds we get rain. I choose rain. Just like the song by Steely Dan called Babylon Sisters (1980) "Here come those Santa Ana winds again." Well today they arrived. They will come and go from now until about the end of May :( So with the winds and the extreme dryness of summer comes fire. So I'm driving home from bowling today and at the 15 fwy & Foothill there was a fire. I got onto the fwy heading south and as I get closer to home I see billowing smoke in the direction of my house. It was hard to judge exactly where they were but my heart was in my stomach because I knew that Skye was home alone and in her kennel. My house was fine but here is a picture from my yard, the fires were in Norco, California.

Here are our Hawthorne Bushes just starting to bloom again. We will have color most of the year and I do like that.

GOODBYE SUMMER

Those fires that happen every year in So. California are pretty scary.
I am a native Northern Californian. There is alot of fall color in the north but it comes around Thanksgiving time - Kind of after the fact.
I do have to say I enjoy living the 4 seasons here in Idaho and we don't get much snow where I live, just enough.
I do miss the beach though!
I am glad you house and Skye are OK!
Happy Santa Ana Wind Season!! (wink wink) :D

Oh my,,,, that would just make me sick to think all of your belongings could be gone in such a flash and you never know from day to day. Does that smoke affect your breathing capacity? I know you struggle so...Good luck and I bet you keep a hose handy, if not, do!!!

I agree to hot my dear :) Wow those fires are scary, I don't think I could be calm every year when the fires start up. I guess one nice thing about living in WA and all the rain :)

those bushes are amazing and so pretty :)

Those fires look pretty close! I hope they stay away from your home.

That looks so very beautiful. Even that smoke adds a beauty to the horizon but also that sense of danger. I like my changing seasons up here in Canada but I do with it wasn't so cold! :)

Fall has started here too... The leaves are starting to change and the air is turning brisk. It's really beautiful. My favorite time of year.

I can't find my blog said...

I was wondering about you passing the fire on the way home...

Stay cool today!

Glad to hear that your home and Skye were safe and sound! Fall here in Michigan is beautiful...getting ready for trips to the apple orchard and pumpkin patch. And of course...lots of raking leaves!!!

Don't you just hate how when the Santa Ana conditions are ripe, all the fire bugs and arsonists come out of the woodwork and begin setting virtually everything on fire?

Now besides the Norco fire, we have one in Fillmore in Ventura county. Before the end of the week, I bet we have at least 4 more.

Here is to you and hoping you are able to stay safe and free from smoky air.

Love and Hugs ~ Kat

Glad to hear your home was safe. And I love fall! You'll have to surround yourself with fall colors even if they aren't outside your window.

I'm so scared of those fires! My grandchildren live out there. I'm glad it wasn't your home!

We were on snow alert here in Colorado last night. It didn't happen, but it's been raining non-stop and is barely above 50 degrees.

BTW, the bread and soup were super easy. I am not kidding when I say I DO NOT BAKE. I'm still stunned that the bread turned out.

The leaves are slowly starting to change in SW Ohio. The weather is still pretty nice. Not real hot but still pretty humid for this time of year. I am so done with this humidity already!!! Wow, that fire is close to your house!! Scary!

My sister loves being in California, too, and she always visits us in Illinois to get her dose of winter!

Whew! The fires are interesting - you just never know where or when they are going to flare up. We get fires every so often here in Florida, but nothing like California. We get fall colors every so often, too LOL

I hope the cooler weather comes your way soon - over a hundred is too hot! ugh.

Sadly many of oyur pictures are refusing to show themselves to me...just a little red cross. I came to your blog via your message on my Friend Sara's. I will book mark and come and read some more when I am a little les tired. Autumn as we English like to call fall, is my favourite season I love the crisp crunch of leaves in the parks, my hubby is not so keen on them filling our garden but they looks so pretty when they change colour....and then I love spring with it's promise of new life. God is good!
hugs

It seems like we have pine trees and palm trees in our community. Not much fall foliage here either.

I am so glad it is fall now. I agree with you - it was SO hot this year!
