I think I left my brain in California....

...that and my fast Internet. The USB port/Verizon connection that I rent works really well but is definitely slower then my house connection.

I am having a wonderful time here in Florida
, I have some things to tell you and some pictures to share but haven't had any time.

I am trying to stay up into the wee hours
to read some posts tonight while the house is quiet but the slow connection this evening is getting the best of me. I hope to be around to visit with all of you soon. (FYI: I have now been here for 8 nights. Because I haven't been able to read much yet I want you to know that I will most likely only read your latest post in order to clear my reader. I hate doing it that way but I am still reading posts from the 16th)

There is a new post today at Debby's Tree.

Miss all of you.
Hope you have a wonderful weekend.
Love,

WEDNESDAY HODGEPODGE

Show me your answers! Link up with Joyce.

1. Did you know there is a National Day of pretty much everything in the universe? February 23 happens to be National Inconvenience Yourself Day...when was the last time you were inconvenienced?
I guess it was when I had to use the pay phone at the airport. Few pay phones around and way too much information needed w/credit card for a silly 50-cent call. Now if it still took quarters someone would still have a job!

2. When a room in your house needs painting who does the job?
My husband has in the past and I have painted too. We haven't painted in this house yet but want to add some colored walls in some rooms. I think we will hire someone at this point in our life.

3. Are you friends with your cousins?

Use to be years ago but no not anymore. Wish I was but hurt feelings happened years ago between the families. We are just friendly to the point of a Christmas card out of respect. I only have two cousins.

4. Do you use an alarm clock? If yes-is it an actual alarm, music, or something else?
I seldom have to set an alarm but when I do it's and actual alarm clock or my cell phone, however I ALWAYS wake up before it goes off!

5. What do you put ketchup on?
Meatloaf, nothing else!

6. What smells make you nostalgic?
I will say the first thing that popped into my head - Popcorn! My father was the manager of a movie theatre. That was back in the day when it was a pretty big deal to go to the movie theatre. I am talking about the 50's and we of course would get anything we wanted from behind the counter but what I remember most was the special big box of butter popcorn that was made for us.

7. Have you heard about the high school English teacher recently suspended as a result of some things she wrote in her personal blog? You can read the story here but in a nutshell she vented a lot of frustration onto her blog. She didn't mention individual students by name but she did make some harsh comments about kids in general and their parents. What are your thoughts-If you're a parent is your child's teacher online and are you 'friend' or 'follower' there? If you're a teacher are you on facebook and do you accept or friend students on fb? How about their parents? If you're a student are you friends with your current or former teachers online? Do any of them have blogs you read? If you're a teacher or a parent do you ever use your blog as a place to vent your frustrations with our educational system? So much to discuss...
No I didn't hear about it because I don't do the news. I really don't have an answer here but I think a teacher would be making a big mistake to blog about her feeling on her class.

8. Insert your own random thought here.
So if you are a regular here you know that my sister fell in a bathroom stall at J.C.Penny's last Friday on water. She was taken by ambulance to the hospital and was told that she had no broken bones and they suggested she see a specialist to see if anything is torn. They told her to stay off of it for a week. Well guess what, she has a hairline fracture and can't be on it at all for six weeks! The specialist just glanced at the x-ray and saw it immediately! As long as she doesn't try to stand on it she is in no pain at all. The doctor told her that once it is healed she won't even know that it happened. Of course she is feeling bad about not going to work, she manages a Hallmark store in the mall.

I FEEL THIS WAY TOO!

Received this in an email and I thought I would share it with you.

Paul Harvey Writes:

We tried so hard to make things better for our kids that we made them worse. For my grandchildren, I'd like better.

I'd really like for them to know about hand me down clothes and homemade ice cream and leftover meat loaf sandwiches. I really would.

I hope you learn humility by being humiliated, and that you learn honesty by being cheated.

I hope you learn to make your own bed and mow the lawn and wash the car. And I really hope nobody gives you a brand new car when you are sixteen.

It will be good if at least one time you can see puppies born and your old dog put to sleep.

I hope you get a black eye fighting for something you believe in.

I hope you have to share a bedroom with your younger brother/sister. And it's all right if you have to draw a line down the middle of the room, but when he wants to crawl under the covers with you because he's scared, I hope you let him.

When you want to see a movie and your little brother/sister wants to tag along, I hope you'll let him/her.

I hope you have to walk uphill to school with your friends and that you live in a town where you can do it safely.

On rainy days when you have to catch a ride, I hope you don't ask your driver to drop you two blocks away so you won't be seen riding with someone as uncool as your Mom.

If you want a slingshot, I hope your Dad teaches you how to make one instead of buying one.

I hope you learn to dig in the dirt and read books.

When you learn to use computers, I hope you also learn to add and subtract in your head.....

I hope you get teased by your friends when you have your first crush on a boy/girl, and when you talk back to your mother that you learn what ivory soap tastes like.

May you skin your knee climbing a mountain, burn your hand on a stove and stick your tongue on a frozen flagpole.

I don't care if you try a beer once, but I hope you don't like it. And if a friend offers you dope or a joint, I hope you realize he is not your friend.

I sure hope you make time to sit on a porch with your Grandma/Grandpa and go fishing with your Uncle.

May you feel sorrow at a funeral and joy during the holidays.

I hope your mother punishes you when you throw a baseball through your neighbor's window and that she hugs you and kisses you at Hannukah/Christmas time when you give her a plaster mold of your hand.

These things I wish for you - tough times and disappointment, hard work and happiness. To me, it's the only way to appreciate life.

Written with a pen. Sealed with a kiss. I'm here for you. And if I die before you do, I'll go to heaven and wait for you.

IT'S FRIDAY SO I HAVE A NEW POST AT DEBBY'S TREE.

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY

Speaking of deer, (like my little segue) I didn't take this picture until I was packing up my Christmas items. I have had these cute little S&P shakers for well over 35 years. Kristin at The Goat and Keetha at The Eclectic Company have posted their cute little vintage sets and wanted to show them these. These are not kissing ones like they have posted but I think they are really cute, don't you? (with their noses rubbed off maybe they have been kissing!)

If your not following Kristin or Keetha I suggest that you do.
Keetha was my very first follower!

I can't wait to go to dinner tonight.

To my family: I LOVE YOU ALWAYS

LOOK AT ME ~ MORE AWARDS!

Are they not two of the cutest awards you have seen? I received these from Carol The Gardener. Thank you Carol. I have to answer some questions and I think you should head on over to Carol's blog and read her answers to these questions!

1. If you blog anonymously, are you happy with this? If you are not anonymous do you wish you had started out anonymously so you could be anonymous now?
I have never been anonymous and I don't see the point in it. I want people to know me and I want to know who they are too.

2. Is there something that you still want to accomplish in your life?
Yes, I want to get down to a healthy weight.

3. When you attended school were you the class clown, the class overachiever, the shy person or always ditching?
I was a bit of a class clown, never ever an overachiever! I was pretty shy and I only ditched once.

4. It is easy to share your true self in your blog or are you more comfortable writing post about other people and events?
It is very easy for me to share my true self.

5. When you take time for yourself, what do you do?
I will go to get my toes done, maybe a movie or head out to a casino. I haven't done the movie or a casino in a long time. What I really need to do is find time for myself here at home, like turn off the computer and read a book!

THERE IS A NEW POST OVER AT DEBBY'S TREE.

Also, Mark is out of town this week and he sent me an email with a reservation for Valentines Day at P.F.Chang's so I guess we have plans.
It made my day!

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY

On this day nine years ago today our daughter Amber was married to our fabulous son-in-law Dylan. I think we had the most wonderful wedding. It was planned in about 3 1/2 weeks but you wouldn't have known it if you were there. We had it at The Mission Inn in Riverside. (we didn't live in Riverside at the time)

Dylan was in the service, Marines, and was serving time overseas when 9/11 happened. They decided that they didn't want to wait until he was out of the service and planned on getting married on his next leave. Well until they tell you you have leave you can't really plan anything. He came home the following January.

On January 12, 2002 they got engaged so we worked quickly to get plans going for their wedding. He wasn't in town very long. We never thought we could do a wedding at The Mission Inn but because they had an opening in February that they wanted to get booked they gave us a great deal. We only invited around 50 people because of the lack of time. Bought her dress, got the flowers, got the DJ and got the photographer. It all turned out amazing. We did end up having Santa Ana winds that day but other then that it was perfection. (this entire wedding cost approx. $15,000. but it really was a dream wedding)

Also in those 3 1/2 weeks, since we had people coming to town who had never been to our house, we decided to do a few upgrades too. We had our kitchen floor tiled, we got new carpeting in the entire house, we had our eaves outside painted, painted our bedroom and got new bedroom furniture!! It is amazing what you can do when you set your mind to it. Actually I wouldn't have wanted to do it any other way, dragging it out for a year or more. Decisions had to be made and they were!

Dylan bought this for Amber for their Anniversary
