The Louvre
Well it was pouring when I left today. I got a cab to the Louvre. I spent about 5 hours walking around. I saw the Mona Lisa, The Winged Victory of Samothrace and the Venus De Milo. I really enjoyed myself. Had a nice lunch of Quiche, Pasta Salad, Lemon cake and coffee. I did a little shopping in the gift shop for a few small items. Then I walked around outside in the boutique area. Stopped and had an apricot crepe with ice cream and water. It was a nice day and my legs were very tired when I was done. And you will never guess what happened......the sun came out!
I took several pictures of art work that caught my eye. I was very surprised to see painting of nursing babies which you don't normally see. Mark explained that to me but I forgot why. It use to be that they would remove the breast and penis on many statues. They did not turn me off, I thought they were beautiful. (I did take a picture of most of the signs next to these painting so if you really want to know who painted something let me know) Oh and the men standing in a circle, kinda in the center, I didn't get the name of this one but I called it "Men looking at their penis's." Also that is a statue of St. Mary Magdalene in the top left corner.
I thought the painting of Venus and the Graces offering gifts to a girl Christ was very modern looking for a painting that was painted in 1476-1479. Of course the Mona Lisa was awesome to see. The crowds of people around it was amazing. It's not easy taking a picture of something that is covered by protective glass.
I thought these pottery pieces were beautiful and I loved the Venus and the Graces offering gifts to a girl which is the painting in the lower left corner and on the right center.
Some of the sweet I saw while window shopping.
These chandeliers were just so beautiful. I know my friend Kristin likes them. Most of these were taken at the Louvre and one is from the room of mirrors at Versailles.
This was a great day and I was sorry that Mark had to miss it. This was one of the places he wanted to go see. I would have waited until Friday to go with him but he decided that he wanted to go to Versailles on our last day in Paris.
Only 9 more days!

Did you visit the gardens at Versailles as well? My sister and I had a fantastic time there. Mind you, the weather was really good as well then!
In Europe we don't mind much about the nudity in paintings and artwork. And a statue with its bits lobbed off, looks weirder and more unnatural than when it still has it all!
Debby...what an adventure you are having. I feel like you're taking us along with you in a way. (Which is probably the closest I'll ever get to Paris anyway!!) Enjoy!!
I just love the pictures and descriptions you're sharing with us ... as Kelly said, this is probably the closest I'll ever get to Paris (or Europe), so I'm definitely enjoying your vacation wrap-ups. ;-)
Those light fixtures are amazing. They look beautiful I bet they were looking at them.
Wow those chandeliers are beautiful. And we won't even talk about the sweets, I would have bought one of every kind:)
