Paris
June 24, 2011 (Our Anniversary)
Mark took Friday off, it was our anniversary and I booked a 1/2 day trip to Versailles at 1:15 PM. We were picked up at the door of our hotel. Five other people joined us on the small van. Walter was our driver. Very nice man, maybe in his 40's, born in Finland but raised in Paris.
As we were picking up the other people we marveled at the way he got around the Arc De Triomphe. Those roads are crazy, fast and small. The circle ones are insane! Well Versailles was so beautiful. You can't do it justice in a few hours but it was certainly worth the trip for what we did see. Louis XIV sure knew how to build a palace with gardens. The sky that day looked almost fake.
Then we got dropped off near a restaurant we wanted to go to rather then walk there from the hotel. This was the Julien that we had gone to our first night in Paris. We had to wait because they were not open yet for dinner so we had some beers at a cafe while we waited. Mark bought me rose from a person who was selling them on the street. Excellent dinner and dessert.
I mentioned to Mark that I would really like to do the boat ride on the Seine river so we checked with the hotel to see what information they had. So we took a cab to the river for the boat ride at 11pm. It was awesome and would recommend it if you have the opportunity. We got to see the Eiffel tower all lite up at night. We could not find a cab to take us back to the hotel. It was that time of day when things were starting to close, like theatres and we tried but ended up walking all the way back to our hotel. I have to find out the distance! (I did some research and it was over 5 miles)
Great Anniversary in Paris.
