WEDNESDAY HODGEPODGE

Join in the fun each week. Click on the button!

1. Who taught you how to cook?
I can't think of anyone who actually taught me. I never paid attention when I should have. My mom did everything, never asked for help and then by the time I was 31 my mom had passed away. I am upset with myself for being spoiled, I never lifted a finger to help clean up.

2. Have you been told you think too much? Are too much of a perfectionist? Are too sensitive? Were they right?

I am sure over the years I have heard all of those things and yes they were right. I have always given too much thought to things. I am a Libra and always looked at both sides to everything. I most likely still do that. I was a perfectionist but not so much anymore. I am tougher now but can still get hurt.

3. As a child did you have a favorite blanket or toy? Tell about it.
None that I remember.

4. What 'institution' do you have the most faith in?
I believe in God but not necessarily the church.

5. Chrysanthemums - pansies - burning bush - ornamental cabbage...your favorite in an autumn garden?
I have never been crazy about chrysanthemums although we have some little ones this year for the first time. I love the others but don't have them in our garden.

6. What superpower do the kids in your neighborhood seem to posses?
I am not sure how to answer this. I seldom go out to the front of the house and never see kids playing. I do know two young boys who love Batman and Spiderman.

7. Are you a fan of the cranberry?

I like cranraisins and jelled cranberry sauce.

8. Insert your own random thought here.
We had 70 kids at the door for Halloween which was fun. I can't believe it is November. I am deciding between getting busy or getting depressed!

I pretty much taught myself to cook, too.

I love your answer to #4!

We had a grand total of 3 trick or treaters...and 2 were in strollers. The good part is...we have lots of candy left over. The bad part is...we have lots of candy left over. :)

Getting busy or getting depressed-yup, it's a short leap either way : ) I am feeling the same. Our calendar is so packed and its making me a little anxious as I'm hosting Christmas for my whole big family and Thanksgiving for some. And I have travel to organize and on it goes...

We had about 35 trick or treaters...they had to climb the mountain, hike thru snow and around our downed tree but still they came.

Have a good day!

Hi Debby...I am finally, playing catch up on my reading after being out of town twice last month.
I had our Halloween treats ready but didn't get one trick or treater! Just the grandbabies graced our porch this year. How blessed you were to have 70!!!
Big hugs!

70 kids? Wow! We had none, zero, nada and now I am stuck with all these candies....Christine

I can't believe you had 70 kids for trick or treat! Hope you had enough candy for them! :)

Get busy! No point in getting depressed: Christmas is getting near!

I think I taught myself how to cook. Although my mum will probably say she taught me. Either way, I am a decent enough cook.

I still have my old teddybear I got when I was about 4. He is sitting on the bedside table nowadays.

I hope you are able to kick the choice of depression in the behind and out the door.

O Yes Its that time of year....I'm with you. I am deciding between getting busy or getting depressed!
I'm going to try not to do the lader. Trish

I'm totally with you. I for sure believe in God. The church...the building...is man-made full of man's interruptations and rules, which get cluttered with a lot of political rightness and wrongness. Most churches have gotten away from conservative Biblical teachings so I don't look to them the solid rock I knew as a kid to look for direction, but God changes not and I know if I listen to Him then I can't go wrong.

I received a junior cookbook when I was about 8 years old, and taught myself how to "cook" hot dogs and french toast. It was actually a great gift, because I learned at an early age to read recipes--the downside is that I was very dependent on recipes until about 5 or 10 years ago, when I finally started trusting my own instincts in putting flavors/ingredients together without a recipe.

Okay - my daughter is a little like you in number one (lol).

And boy am I like you in the fact that I always look at things in both directions! I drive my self nuts!

i don't cook and that's why - nobody taught me. :)

Wow, 70 kids?! I think that is more than we had here in Brooklyn, and I thought we had a lot of kids come by!

I have regrets from when I was younger too. My mother did so much and I remember complaining any time she would ask me for help with something. Now that I'm a mom and realize just how tough the "job" is, I wished I had helped her to a lot more often than I did.

I love cranberries and jelled cranberry sauce, YUM! Glad to get to know you better.

Great answers and yay for a lot of Trick or Treaters !!!
I taught myself a lot of cooking too.

I know, I can't believe it's November either. This year has flown by!

Wow! That is a lot of kids at your door! We always go to our church event during that time, so we aren't home, but the other neighbors have said that there really aren't that many kids out in our neighborhood.

We had two trick or treaters, LOL! I have never had cranraisins; I bet they are good!

Time sure does fly--November and then December and both daughters' birthdays are in December-to top that-basketball season starts Friday--Whew--getting tired just thinking about all of this.

You have got to get busy!!!! You have decorations to put up in a mere month!!! I always enjoy seeing all of your wonderful things! We had well over 100 treaters this year which was fun. The teenagers had great costumes which was good too- I can't stand when they try to get candy without even putting on a costume! :-P

Kind of a bunch of strange questions this week.

I definately am with you on #2. I am also a Libra and I live up to the Libra definition. I like things balanced - I look at both sides.

I am also tougher than I used to be but I still get hurt - I'm pretty sensitive.

I gave up being a Perfectionist years ago - You can't do it with 5 kids - Ha Ha!

I'm so jealous of your 70 trick or treators! It rained like crazy here and I think we had 15?

Liz Mays said...

I vote for get busy, not depressed! Nobody came to my door for Halloween! 70 would be fun!

My mom taught me to cook. I don't know how much 'teaching' she had to do though, I was always watching eagerly! :-)

Alexis AKA MOM said...

Wow you had a great turn out, I know you passed out the best candy too!

I smacked it baby...smacked it hard.

My mom didn't teach me how to cook, however I watched her all the time, and now cooking is a passion. I think to much and get hurt very easily(childhood sucked). I'm posting my amazing cranberry sauce recipe soon! Love it:)

do not get depressed.. I love you tons.. you amaze me..

I was the baby of the family, and although I helped my Mom bake, I never really helped her with the everyday cooking. My Mom died when I was 12, my sister left for college when I was 14, and my Dad didn't cook. The two of us had a major learning curve when it came to cooking after that.

I have a glorious burning bush in my back yard. That's one of my favorites. And cranberry applesauce.

I haven't had any T or T ers for years. So glad you had enough to make it worthwhile.

Don't get depressed about it being November already. There's just no point in it, if you feel you have a choice! Plan to be excited, happy and motivated to enjoy the festivities that come with the next few months.
