It was 2 years ago in August during our annual vacation to Mammoth Lakes when I came up with the idea for my Debby's Tree blog. I thought it would be a great way to have a record of my ornaments for my children. I use to do a post every Friday and then I started getting so busy reading posts from all my dear friends that I have made that I found I wasn't having much time in my day.
It also started to get harder for me to work on it for a few other reasons. I have taken pictures of every ornament I own, I did that two Christmases ago when I set up my tree. It is fairly easy to work with my newer ornaments as I buy them because the information is on the box.
The two biggest issues I have is when it comes to all my older ornaments which I have been collecting since the 70's. I must have around 900 now! I have to look each ornament up in a collectible book and it is very time consuming. That's because several years ago I got new containers for all of my ornaments and at that time I collapsed all the boxes each ornament comes in.
Believe me it saves so much time in setting up and taking down the tree when I don't have to open each individual box or find each box the ornament goes into when taking it down. It also saves the individual boxes from wear and tare which is important to collectors.
The second reason is Photoshop. I have sent each ornament photo over there but they changed their system and I find it very difficult, along with time consuming, to now frame and put the information on each photo. So that is what really slowed me down or pushed me away. When something becomes frustrating you start to become disenchanted with the project :(
I want to share all the ornaments that I purchased this year so I will be having posts up at Debby's Tree each Friday starting today! Also you may want to check the Hallmark Keepsake Club pieces that are available this year. Here is that post!
Hope everyone has a nice weekend.

Sounds like such an exhausting job, but I'm sure you're glad to have an accurate record of what you own. Have a nice weekend!
I saw early on my reader board you posted there and had to stop over and see the new ones. Love the Snow cones!
It's great your cataloging them all. I'm telling you Picasa is awesome and easy to use with blogger.
Wow! That sure takes a lot of time and dedication to do what you're doing...I'm very impressed!
What a neat idea. I've been using Picmonkey for editing - it's free and much easier than Photoshop.
You asked where I got the NuNaturals - so far the company has been sending me the stuff - I have yet to run out as it lasts a long time! But you should be able to order it online, and if you like giveaways, you can often find blogs doing them!
Good ideas you have and hard I'm sure to keep up with. Be visiting your other blog to see them. Have a lovely weekend.
Anything that is time consuming or frustrating does lead to disenchantment. :) I'm off to check out your other post! :)
Wow, gotta admire your tenacity! I'd probably pull my hair out. Going over right now to check it out.
I know it it time consuming - but I also know you love every minute of it!
I think that is a great idea to collapse the boxes like that, Debby, and store the ornaments all together. But wow 900 ornaments! I've seen pictures of your trees; you do put a lot of love in them!

I have a hand-written list that I intend to enter onto the computer this Christmas. But I don't have nearly that many ornaments to deal with! And I hope to get the kids to take some of them off my hands.
I am annoyed that all my Christmas films are already packed away: I want to see some! And now you are talking about Christmas ornaments! Have you no sympathy????
Good luck with your project. It sounds time consuming but I am sure the effort will be appreciate by your family. I was frustrated when I upgraded my Photoshop. It took me awhile to get used to it, but I did. Hang in there and don't give up.
I posted an award for you on my blog.
Best wishes as you find a system that works well for you. What a fun record to keep for your kids.
Happy Sharefest. Have a great weekend.
Holy Christmas! How many trees do you put up? I will be checking out your collectables. I have a couple of the Hallmark ornaments. I have Han Solo! Most of my ornaments were collected in my travels.
Happy All Hollow's Eve
That will be a true labor of love. I wish you luck! :)
My dgt is a collector and always looking for ways to showcase her things so I can appreciate this post. And 900 ornaments....wow....Very cool.
wow....
have a great weekend!
I honestly just reaized why I could never be a collector! I wouldn't have the patience to do that.......last year I even cut back on how many ornaments I put on my tree. I'm lazy! But you'll always have that and I admire that!
That is a lot of ornaments. I don't know how you would keep them all straight.
Glad to see you again.
I just love your passion for all things Christmas...so sorry some of the picture taking is removing some of the fun!
I think it's sometimes easier to start now and go forward. That's what I say to friends who haven't blogged in a while and are stressed because they want to catch up. Go forward from here... you can always go back later should the time present itself. Life is so busy!
Hugs-

Phew I'm finally caught up! :)
