WEDNESDAY HODGEPODGE

Goodbye July, our time was too short!

Thank you Joyce.
Click on the button to join in!

1. Share one way you think the world has changed for the better since you were a kid?
Well I do enjoy having movies in the house. When I was growing up you could only see them in the movie theater. Of course the computer is one of the best things to come along. The world is at your fingertips!

2. How 'bout one way it's changed for the worse?
I don't believe our government cares for us anymore. I'm all for helping others but why do we continue to help other countries when our own country needs our help.

3. Starlight, starfish, starling, Starbucks...your favorite 'star'?
Starlight......Actually the stars are amazing when we are on vacation in the mountains and I actually bought a chart on our way home when we stopped at the Bristlecone Pine Forest so next year I can maybe find something other than the dippers!

4. Name a song that's overplayed, but you love it anyway.
Nothing is coming to mind for me right now.....however that was my answer until I visited Cathy yesterday and she mentioned the Oscar Mayer commercials. I've been watching All My Children on Hulu and you can't get away from the commercials and one that is shown often is "I am stuck on Band-Aid 'cause Band-Aid's stuck on me." So that's my answer, the kids are always adorable and Barry Manilow wrote that jingle!

5. When did you last have home made ice cream? Your latest favorite flavor?
Have never had home made ice cream. When asked about a favorite flavor I always say Butter Pecan but I did enjoy this on vacation and it is amazing. (I know someone had this on their blog....thank you)

6. What do you think is the best way to inspire or motivate people?
If I knew the answer to that my house would be amazingly organized and clean!

7. When was the last time you were without power?
A few weeks ago our power went out a few times over a few days. Never for a long time but always annoying.

8. Insert your own random thought here.
Well I have been home for two weeks and have avoided writing any posts about our trip to Mammoth Lakes, CA. Maybe I will get motivated this week. Speaking of avoiding things, I did finally do housework but I still have the floors to wash. Obviously I have been avoiding things by going to the show. Here are two more movies I saw:

Mark and I went out on Sunday and had a lovely lunch at Wood Ranch, then we went to see Red 2 - IMDb. This movie was fun, we really enjoyed it! I don't remember the first one, not sure if I saw it but you don't need to.  I do love when I go to the show and the movie totally takes me in
"Retired C.I.A. agent Frank Moses reunites his unlikely team of elite operatives for a global quest to track down a missing portable nuclear device."

Yesterday Amber and I went to see Girl Most Likely - IMDb when she got off of work. It was playing at our local theater that has $5.00 Tuesday's. You know cutie pie Daren Criss from Glee is in this movie! I do like Kristen Wiig and haven't seen Annette Bening in a movie in a long time. Well the movie was just okay, nothing special. The theater laughed and we laughed several times but it was a bit of a dud. Glad it was only $5.00 and we had a free popcorn on our rewards card!

I think technology changed us for the worse - I think we are over connected these days

I used to have homemade ice cream at the church ice cream social, and it was so good! That was a long time ago and a nice memory. :) It sounds like you are having a nice summer!

40 plus years since I had home made ice cream. i commented on that first because it is mega important. LOL
Starlight I love best..
the most important thing for me since childhood is Air Conditioning... i did not have it until i was 40 and now i could not live without it here in Florida.

I've never had the limoncello gelato, but we used to go to a restaurant in the UK that served lemon sherbert with limoncello poured over it. Yum!

I liked the first Reds movie so maybe we'll get to the second one. We haven't been to the movies all summer.

So sad but true about the government :(

I want to go see Red 2 so badly! I LOVED the first one!!!

as great as being 'connected' is, it has desensitized us to crises and crime and pain. *sigh*

The thing that has changed for the worse in the few years I have been walking on this round thingy is the fact that children can hardly be children anymore. Everything is organised for them, even playing with each other is now a play date! What about just grabbing your bike and heading off to the neighbour kids and play outside until it's dark!

I just love these posts! Home made ice cream is over rated, in my opinion. It's good, but melts too fast and too much work. :) I meant to tell you that I watched Quartet the other night...thought it was really cute. I don't watch a lot of movies, so I only watch what others recommend. thanks! And no, our government does not care about the people any longer...just their own over inflated egos!!

I'd like to get inspired and motivated to clean my house, too! I'll do good for one day, then lose interest. Sometimes it seems like a waste of time anyway.

You remind me of myself, a few years back. I was ALWAYS at the movies. Unfortunately, there's not much that peaks my interest these days.

liked your answers to the first two questions.
I didn't see the first
RED movie either.....I thought this one was so funny...of course I went with my Movie Club and we were all laughing a lot....always good for you.
Have a good day,
Mama Bear

Ok, I totally missed the point of the power question. LOL We rarely lose power. I though she meant power over others or ourselves or a situation. LOL You first answer is great! I didn't think of that.

Does that gelato taste like Italy's I had to have gelato every day while in Italy because the time was so short. The ones here taste more like a slushee.

Debby you know you and I can agree on there is no way to motivate people who don't want to be motivated! lol

Debbie, this is a good post...a very enjoyable read. My family makes home made ice cream a lot...Mom loves peach or any fruit she's put up but my favorite is butter pecan. I've not seen Red but want to see it and Red2...it's MY age group...snicker.

I can't remember much about the first "Red" either, Debby, although I know I saw it. That must mean this one was better. I think I chuckled through most of it. Good to know about the other movie, I was wondering as I had seen negative reviews. However, one that good reviews that I went to with Wendy yesterday "The To Do List" should have gotten a lower score. I just didn't like it. Have a good rest of the week and don't clean too much! You really should try homemade ice cream sometime...there's nothing like it!!

I can't believe you've never had homemade icecream...nothing like it...but it will sure freeze your head quick...I'm with you on the government statement..I think technology is hurting our younger generation..too many of them do not know how to communicate face to face any more...

Oh, yes, whatever did we do before computers.

Your answer to #6 made me chuckle.

Good luck with your cleaning endeavor.

We are wanting to see Reds 2. We saw the first one and loved it. Hubs really enjoyed seeing all the old action heroes in one place.

Star light would be my fav too.

I am shocked that you've never had homemade ice cream!!! My daddy used to make homemade peach ice cream and we would take turns turning the crank!

We enjoyed Red 2!

I hear you on the government, I also see that with churches. I'm so glad mine is on a big campaign to help our area.

Man I miss ice cream!!!

LOL I hear you on the house :)

I was thinking Red2 may be a good one. I've never heard of Girl Most Likely. Will have to check it out.

July was to short!

That gelato sounds yummy!

Thanks for the movie tips! ;-) I haven't been motivated either... Think it's because I haven't been by a computer. Trying hard to play catch up. The time 'off' was nice though! ;-)

I can't really identify a whole lot more in the sky other than the Dippers either. I can sometimes find Orion's belt too.

I like being able to watch movies at home too!

I laughed out loud when you listed a commercial jingle as your favorite overplayed song!

I'm definitely going to have to try the limoncello gelato.
