Volume 190
Thank you Joyce.....
Click on over and join in the fun!
1. I'm celebrating a birthday this week so a question relating to aging feels appropriate. Douglas MacArthur is quoted as saying, 'You are as young as your faith, as old as your doubt; as young as your self-confidence, as old as your fear; as young as your hope, as old as your despair." Would you agree? If not why not?
I have read this over and over again.....I tend to agree with this quote!
2. What remarkable feat, interesting piece of trivia, or historical event occurred on your birth day and month? Not necessarily in your birthyear, just the same date/same month.
The list is pretty long starting in 2333BC going through to 2013....here are a few:
- 2333BC - The state of Gojoseon (Modern-day Korea) founded by Dangun Wanggeom during the reign of the Chinese Emperor Yao.
- 1954 - "Father Knows Best" premieres.
- 1955 - "Captain Kangaroo" premieres on CBS-TV, Good Morning, Captain!
- 1955 - "Mickey Mouse Club" premieres
- 2003 - Roy Horn of Siegfried & Roy is attacked by one of the shows tigers, canceling the show for good.
- 2008 - OJ Simpson found guilty of charges of kidnapping and armed robbery.
3. Describe a time or circumstance where you wanted to 'have your cake and eat it too.'
I think I do that everyday, I'm a dreamer! Actually I have something going on right now that could possibly go in the direction of 'have your cake and eat it too' or it can explode in my face. I will let you know.
4. What's something you do that makes you feel young? Something that makes you feel old
That's a hard one......I'm going to say that going to the Disney parks makes me feel young!
Something that makes me feel old.....all the time I've been spending at the doctor's office!
5. When did you last do something that was 'a piece of cake'?
Spent a day with Adam and Tristen, went to the Getty Villa and had a wonderful engagement celebration at Fogo De Chao's in Beverely Hills. I haven't even written a post about that day which was back on August 10th! The day was exactly how I had hoped it would be.
6. Beef, wine, and cheese all improve with age. What's something else you'd add to that list? (not necessarily food or beverage)
Compassion and understanding comes to mind.......
7. If I were to have a giveaway when we hit Volume 200, what should I give away? By my calculations we'll hit Volume 200 on November 26th, the day before Thanksgiving, which means whoever wins would have whatever it is in time for Christmas.
Movie tickets, Amazon gift card, Cheryl's cookies.....okay I could type a list that would be endless. I am sure whatever you choose would be appreciated by the winner!
8. Insert your own random thought here.
This is our long weekend in Chicago, IL. We will be mainly in Brookfield and staying in Oak Brook. We have a tour of our high school on Friday night, followed by an evening at a local pub. I believe their is also a football game going on if we want to attend.
Saturday evening is a dinner at a restaurant in LaGrange. Should be an awesome weekend. Also meeting some friends for dinner tonight, along with having dinner tomorrow night with Mark's brother Jimmy and his wife Caprice. (My BIL & SIL) Can't wait to see everyone.
Brookfield, IL ~ Established in 1909
That's me in the second row-second person.
That's Mark in the first row-second person.
We return home on Sunday. I don't know if I will be reading posts or not. We do have some free time. Thinking that maybe on Saturday we can visit the Brookfield Zoo which is located behind our High School and is one of the country's largest and most respected zoo's.

Have a safe and happy trip for your long weekend!
Stopping over from WH. Have a great time on your trip.
Your weekend in Chicago sounds like a whirlwind, but amazing and fun, nonetheless! Enjoy it to the hilt...safe travels! Your son and Tristen are just the cutest!
A LOT has gone on on your birthdate!
Love your #6.
Have fun in Chicago!
Hi Debby,
Enjoyed reading your answers.
I loved `Captain Kangaroo` and `Mickey Mouse Club`
Have a great weekend!
My albums....oh boy did you bring back memories of my high school days. But funny part is, all us teens in that decade look alike. These photos you share from your high school year book look like they could be in MY book here at home. '67 was my year.
Loved your improve with age answer.
Have fun on your long weekend. :)
I love that Captain Kangaroo and the Mickey Mouse Club premiered on your birth date!
Have a wonderful weekend! I hope you enjoy all of your reunion festivities :)
I don't know Cheryl's cookies, so will have to google that one. I hope you have a wonderful time at your reunion and the years just roll away as you visit with old friends.
What fun things happened on your special day! And what fun seems to be in store for you this weekend. I hope it will be all you desire it to be. Good to know about the zoo. Sounds worth checking out when we are in Indiana another time.
So glad you are feeling better! Enjoy your class reunion and don't forget the pic's!!!
Enjoy your weekend. My hubby and I also attended the same school. We enjoy our reunions.
enjoy your reunion!!!
enjoy your fun times and trip... a visit to the past... in a fit of hate school i threw all my annuals i the trash, wish i had them now.
i agree with your number 6 answer and add wisdom to that. what makes me feel old is my son is going to be 50 in Feb and what makes me feel young is NOTHING. i never feel young.
Have a FANTASTIC time in Chicago! I hope you are feeling well too :-)
Have a wonderful time in Chicago! You graduated the year behind me! Chicago, IL vs Millersport, OH, though, puts us more than just miles apart!! Big city, small farming community. I wish you safe travels, good weather, and tons of fun.
Hope you have a great weekend! And I said Disney makes me feel young too.
2333BC ? I thought that was before birthdays.
Brookfield Zoo has been a fun place for our youngest granddaughter.
Hi, enjoy your reunion. I have my 30th coming up next year. I so agree with the compassion and understanding answer. It seems as grow older we begin to realize how much we don't know and need to learn. Glad to meet you on Hodgepodge. :)
Mary-andering Creatively
You're lucky to want to visit with high school friends. I would still want to punch everyone I went to high school with. Except my BFF. LOL I keep dreaming about having my cake and eating it too as well. One of these days, you and I--we're going to have all the cake and eating we can stand! :)
Popping over from the Hodgepodge. =) Loved your answers. Hope your trip is fantastic.
Blessings, Valerie
We are celebrating a birthday around here this week too!
It sounds like you have a very sweet weekend planned! Enjoy!
Have a good time, Debby; I got confused, I thought the trip was already, but glad it is happening now. How cute with the yearbook pictures :)
So true that compassion can get better with age, I think as we go through things, we do learn how to be more compassionate :)
betty
Have a wonderful trip, and a wonderful birthday!!
I got such a kick out of the yearbook photos! My husband and I have class photos when we were in the same 4th, 5th, and 6th grade classes! Isn't it fun to look back?!
I like the MacArthur quote - a lot of truth in that. There are few things that make me feel old more than the things I fear...
GOD BLESS!
I hope you get to have your cake and eat it too!!! I know what you mean about dr. Appointments making you feel old!
Have fun in Chicago!
Hope you enjoy your trip and visiting with everyone!
A lot of cool things have happened on your birthday and I know it is coming up soon! Hope you are having a fun time.
Hope you have a great time in Chicago. the Brookfield zoo, is a wonderful zoo. I haven't been there for a while.
Hope you are having a wonderful weekend in Chicago!
