The prompt this week: My First Home
I decided to start from the beginning and show you the homes I grew up in Illinois. This house is the house I was born into. We lived there until I started kindergarten. This was in North Riverside, IL.
Then from kindergarten until the day I got married I lived in this house. It was also in North Riversdie, IL and just a block from my grade school which was K-8th grade.
Mark and I bought a townhouse in Bolingbrook, IL when we got married. I would have to do some digging to get a picture of it. At that time they called them quadminiums back then. There were four units in a building.
This was our first house purchase and this is the home our children were raised until we were divorced. The house back when we owned it was done in the beige and brown Tudor colors. This home was around 80 years old when we bought it around 1978. It had original cove moldings at the ceilings. It was lovely and is in Western Springs, IL.
After we divorced I sold our home and got a quadminium in Clarendon Hill, IL. (same type of building like Bolingbrook) Our entrance was under the balcony and that's our garage door you see in this photo.
Our unit was above all the garages. You walked in the door and went upstairs. We could enter from the garage too! The kids and I lived there for about 5 years before we moved to California and were reunited with Mark.

i like the sweet little homes you were raised in. and quadminium is a new word for me but it makes perfect sense.
How great that you have all the photos! I am missing a few, I'm sorry to say. I am going to really enjoy this new Monday Meme....catch my catch-up post tomorrow.
I remember quadminiums!!! Nothing like here in GA. How do you have such nice pictures of your homes - I don't think I would have any of mine - but i do have to say they are all pretty.
This was such an interesting post, Debby! Love that sweet Tudor house but the best part was to hear that your family was reunited. What a miracle that must have been. Have you written about that before?
I enjoyed reading your house memories. It's great that you had the photos handy :)
Oh, that second to last house is definitely my favourite! So pretty! I wouldn't mind living there I can tell you!
Very interesting! The styles of homes that were built in different parts of the country. So glad you could join my blog.
quadminium is a new word but makes sense to me... my favorite of all these is your first home you and Mark bought. i love that house. i lived in 6 homes from age 5 to 19 when I married.. when i got married we lived in 8 homes before I divorced after 18 years.
Hi Debby,
Beautiful homes!
My dad was a building contractor when I was growing up. We moved around a lot in the same small town. Our first move was next door, then we moved up a block, then we moved to the country. They continued to move after I moved out.
Is a quadminium like a townhouse?
Thanks for stopping by today :)
Have a great week!
That tudor is just gorgeous! I would love to live in one. I've always liked them.
Hi Debbie! Thank you for taking us on a trip to all your houses. I really love the one in Western Springs. I am a sucker for crown moldings. Do you like Prairie Style homes? LOVE them myself.
I'm glad you can all be close to each other through your last move. And I continue to pray for your good health.
Blessings,
Ceil
Cute homes! How cool that you still had photos of them all. Now where is the one in Cali? I loved the Tudor home.
Dear Debby, What fun to see the homes you lived in. I always love seeing the style of homes in different states. I must say, it sounds like you've got quite a incredible story with your hubby. You may have shared it previously, but I'd love to hear it. God's ways are so mind-boggling.
Sending you hugs today.
Noreen
All of those houses are really cute!
I think it is neat, Debby, you have pictures from the houses you lived in. I like the house you and Mark had bought first; I think it has a lot of character to it!
