WEDNESDAY HODGEPODGE

Volume 216
Head on over to Joyce's and join in the fun!

1. Besides left over Easter goodies, what's something currently kept in a basket at your house?

We have throws that are kept in a woven laundry basket that belonged to my husbands Nana. Pine cones are kept in a basket on the cocktail table. Also the remotes are kept in a basket. We have napkins in a basket and also paper plates. I love using baskets in my decorating and Longaberger Baskets are my favorite.

2. 'The greater danger for most of us is not that our aim is too high and we miss it, but that it is too low and we reach it.' ~Michelangelo Buonarroti )

So which one are you...the one who aims too high, or the one who aims too low? Have you ever seen The Sistine Chapel? Did you know Michelangelo's surname prior to answering this question?

I believe I aim too high. I have not seen The Sistine Chapel in person and I did not know Michelangelo's surname prior to this question.

3. April 7th is National Beer Day. Hmmm...wonder how that's celebrated? Do you like beer? Have a favorite? If you're not a beer drinker do you have any recipes you enjoy cooking that call for beer?

I do like to have a beer on a hot summer day. I'm not sure I have a favorite. I've always liked a Corona with a lime. Mark likes Stella Artois. I just made a packaged beer bread on Easter. You can read why here:
This is a Garlic Parmesan one.....

4. When did you last travel somewhere new? Tell us where? How'd it go?

I've shared this before but it was probably to San Antonio Texas. We visited The Alamo and took a boat ride and walked the Riverwalk. It went great except for the cold front that came in. Mark actually had to buy a jacket. I of course prepare for all kinds of scenarios when I travel.

5. The value of         (no clue right now)       is greatly overrated.

6. What's a pet peeve of yours when it comes to restaurant dining?

When the server is so busy that they don't come around as often as they should. You shouldn't have to wave them down. Also unruly children. I love children and they seldom get on my nerves but some people just don't respect other diners with their children's behavior at nice restaurants. I'm not talking about Denny's here.

7. It's Poetry Month...share a favorite poem, either the title, a few lines you find meaningful, or the whole kit and caboodle.

When I first saw Four Weddings and a Funeral I fell in love with this W. H. Auden poem called Funeral Blues

8. Insert your own random thought here.

I'm not a fan of beer at all. I think I can count the number of beers I have had in my life on one hand

Just before popping in here I had looked that poem up, trying to remember the words. So funny you mentioned it. I love it, also one of my favorites. I'm with you on the restaurant thing!

I saw that "cartoon" on Facebook the other day ... so true for me some times. :-(

i keep our drugs and over the counter drugs in plastic baskets in the cabinet and the hall closet half of it has shelves and all the things that live their reside in plastic baskets. i have no baskets out in plain sight.

I tasted beer twice in 1981 and said why would any one want to drink this. but i would like your bread.
have not seen the poem before... my peeve is same as yours..

YES!!! Love that Jesus comic!!! He's DRAGGED me many a time. Probably leaving mud stains from all the tears too :)

Love the Jesus comic too. It is so me.

Your beer bread looks really good. I love baskets too but never heard of the ones you mentioned. I'm off to check them out now.

I'm wondering, can you taste the beer in beer bread?
Love, love, love your random thought :) Those could be Ed's words to me.

That comic was really funny. I just showed hubby and he got a kick out of it, too. Aren't baskets great? I love that I can throw all my junk in them and that area still looks stylish... :)

I agree about restaurant thing. Also when the waiter isn't clear about something and you end up getting something different.
I like the comic! So true.

Like the poem and the cartoon.

I'd say we keep our Boston terrier in a basket but, really, he keeps himself there; he finds baskets irresistible and when he sees one he hops in and makes himself at home.

I am with you on the baskets - they can really be put to good use. Not so much on beer - just never acquired a taste for them. Enjoyed your answers.

Wow, that poem is a picture of despair. It sounds like he's given up and has no hope. Very sad.

I love Longaberger too, and have just one. Others I've made or bought. Love baskets. I've never been to San Antonio, but it's river walk sounds wonderful and I'd like to see the Alamo. Unfortunately it's about a 25 hour drive. Or maybe more.

I've no clue how I always seem to manage to visit on Wednesday...it's a dark gift, I do suppose.
Yes, I did know M's last name but couldn't spell first or last if my life depended upon it.
My aim is too high for some things and too low for others. I guess I need to lower my expectations and not my standards, eh?
National Beer Day and I missed it. My newest favorite is Kilt Flasher by Devil's Backbone Brewing Co in Lynchburg, VA. It's a dark, rich, creamy beer.
Love the poem; it's how I felt when Dave died; mostly, it's how I still feel about his death. Yes, I know he's in heaven and that's supposed to make it easier. I suppose it does, some days and not so much, other days.
I just returned from Aruba where I did nothing much except sleep and lay in the pool in my pool chair. lovely!

I do not drink often but I also enjoy a corona with lime in the summer!

I love baskets too. My brother recently made the trip you did and thoroughly enjoyed himself. Hope you have a good night. Remembering you and yours in my prayers!

I've never seen Four Weddings and a Funeral! I like that poem, though, so I may have to look it up. That cartoon is one of my favorites. Very true, but it always makes me laugh. If you are ever visiting your son in Pittsburgh on a hot summer day we'll have to try to meet up for a Corona with lime. :)

Confession: I adore baskets! We have bread baskets, baskets in closets for shoes and socks, and in bedrooms for knick knacks! They are everywhere!

I had to laugh about your #8, Debby. So agree about the beer on a hot day; something satisfying about that and refreshing. So agree too about children in a restaurant (and church for that matter too). We started at a young age teaching our kids proper behavior in restaurants; it did pay off.

Listening to the Auden poem in the movie brought me to tears.

I like a good IPA or pale ale.
