On Friday afternoon Adam drove Mark to the airport to catch a flight to San Francisco with a connection to Minneapolis. From Minneapolis he would be driving six hours to Canada for a fishing trip with his brother. A family friend of our sister in law has his very own island. Perfect right? Mark was lucky enough to join them once last year.
So Mark's flight to San Francisco landed in Fresno because of a possible mechanical error. So he was sitting on the plane in Fresno waiting and waiting. They determined it was a faulty light and after a few hours they took off to San Francisco airport. Needless to say he missed his connection to Minneapolis.
Now he could have waited until morning to catch a flight which would have gotten him into Minneapolis around 5 PM which meant he wouldn't be up to the cabin until midnight at the earliest. It would not be the best time for the boat from the island to come and get him.
He decided to take a flight to Chicago and catch a flight to Duluth which makes the drive only 4 hours. Called and changed his car reservation from Minneapolis to Duluth. So he eventually arrives in Chicago with several hours before the Duluth flight. Want to guess what happened next? The flight to Duluth was delayed because of very heavy fog in Duluth. Ended up being delayed for a few hours.
So almost 24 hours later after leaving Ontario, CA his flight to Duluth took off from Chicago. Next thing I know is I get a text from Mark that he landed in Minneapolis because Duluth became fogged in again!!! Since his luggage from Ontario was marked for the destination of Minneapolis he was hopeful that he may at least get that.
No such luck. Luggage is in Chicago and will be delivered to the island in Canada tomorrow. (Well actually today since I started writing this on Saturday) So basically if he would have waited for the morning flight out of San Francisco to Minneapolis he would have avoided a whole lot of delays and aggravation since he ended up arriving there at basically the same time after a full day of hassle.
He did however arrive safely just before midnight.......

waiting and waiting and waiting......
To make up for lost time he was able to change his flight home leaving two days later so he could get more fishing in. With any luck he will arrive home on Saturday in order to see me take off the next morning to Florida!

you are so right, you can't make this stuff up.. glad he got there.. i was thinking he could have driven there in the time it took to fly... hope he catches lots of fish and has a great time.. be sure you bring you coolest clothes, we are in a heat wave.. the tropical storm should be gone by the time you get here OR another on the way.
it takes lots of energy & patience to travel these days.
Glad he made it safely. Crazy stuff!
Good grief!
Remember when flying was so luxurious? Me neither.
I hope you don't experience anything near Mark's experience when you head to Florida! (Obviously, we hope the airlines don't take unnecessary chances, but still ...)
Nightmare of an adventure, but glad he got there safely. Looks like a beautiful place to fish!

I wonder if it was really worth it. I have never been a plane. Once in a helicopter. Stay safe on your trip.
How terrible. At least he is there now and can stay a little longer to make up for the delay. Pretty photo. Wishing you a safe and nice trip also.
Oh my goodness. What a mess. glad he got there okay.
It used to be exciting to take a trip on a plane, but not anymore. This is craziness. I hope he is able to relax and enjoy.
Oh My!
This happened to a friend of mine a few weeks ago. She was to fly from Chicago to Houghton Michigan...the UP ~ her flight was changed to fly her to Duluth due to weather than on to Houghton. She did make it to Duluth, but no flights out and had to sit in the Duluth airport for 4 hours...the rental car was closed and she had no one in the airport but the security guard.
CrAzY!
I hope Mark has a great time! Is he able to bring some fish home to California?

My goodness - what a trip! I've always said that truth is stranger than fiction. In fact, I know of a person who if I wrote her life story, it would make a wonderful soap opera! I hope you have a wonderful & safe time visiting your Dad.
Thank goodness he arrived safely!! Airports...always a headache, eh? :)
crazy
I got confused half way through! Can't imagine how he must have felt...
Oh my! What a frustrating trip. Glad he could add a couple more days on after that rough beginning.
Hope you have a great trip to Florida.
These are the trips that make me dislike flying. AT least he will have a wonderful time once he's there, it will be worth the hassle. Hope your flight is much easier and you arrive in Florida without any delays.
Hugs,
Noreen
People have so many horror stories about flying now. Really makes me think the airlines have gone downhill.
Goodness! that just exhausted me... I can't imagine what it did to him! Glad he made it!
That is absolutely crazy, Debby! Wears me out just thinking about it!
Oh my goodness! That sounds like the trip from hell!!! I'm glad he finally made it there, safely. Hope you two make the most of your one night together before you leave on your trip :)
