9/11

I've shared this story before.....I took Mark to the airport early that morning. I arrived back home and I turned on the TV. Normally I would have just gone back to bed. I could not believe what I was seeing.

My dad happened to be in town, he was staying with his sister and brother in law, my aunt and uncle. They happen to be late sleepers but I knew they had to see this so I called and woke them up. I will never forget that day.

Mark called me from the plane which was sitting on the runway. He wanted to know if I knew what was going on. Of course I gave him all the details.  I'm not sure if I went back to the airport to get him or if he took a cab home.

When I watch older movies I'm always looking for the Twin Towers. I have a small Statue of Liberty from a gift store at the bottom of those building. Adam was there that very summer 2001 and bought it for me.

Of course we visited the 9/11 Memorial when we were in New York in August. With building after building, mile after mile for miles, it it so hard for me to wrap my mind around how those two buildings falling straight down to the ground.

My heart goes out to everyone who lost their loved ones and to those who were there and experienced this horrific attack on America.

your story of Mark at the airport waiting to take off reminds me that all that died on those planes did the same thing he was about to do. flying off as planned and they never made it.

I remember you writing this before. We were just talking about how odd it was for several days after that the skies were empty as flights were cancelled for a period of time. May we never forget and may this never happen again ❤️Ann

I remember that day, going home for lunch and turning on the tv and seeing the news coverage. It was shocking.

It's hard to believe that the kids graduating high school this year won't have any memory of 9/11. They were 3 when it happened. To so many of us, we remember it very clearly (called flashbulb memory).

I would dearly, desperately love to visit NYC and see the memorial with my own eyes.
I hope we, as a nation, never forget to always remember.

I don't think I had read your story before, so thanks for sharing. My cousin was on a plane that was to land in Newark and was about 30 minutes out when that happened. Their plane was diverted and she went back three days later. We were scheduled for a trip to Ireland on the 13th, but our trip was cancelled. Scary day.

Still so very sad. The world changed that day, America in particular and we can never go back to what was before. We were at Ground Zero in November that year and there was still a lot of dust in the air. They had erected some barriers around it, but you could get a glimpse inside. Heartbreaking. I cannot handle the film footage of people leaping from the tower.

Thank you for telling about Mark. I've probably read it & forgot. I was at school that day & !st period was my conference period. My aide walked into the room & told me so we turned on our TV (all rooms had them) & watched. We thought the first one was an accident; after that, we saw that it wasn't. My heart goes out to all the people who perished and their families & all the brave people who worked on the cleanup & recovery for so long. Then we had our soldiers who fought for us, bringing down Sadam Hussein, Bin Ladin and other terrorists. I can't thank these people enough.
