NEW YORK IN AUGUST PART ONE

Our trip was amazing. I was so happy to finally visit New York and I certainly hope I can go back someday. I didn't get to see everything I wanted to see in Central Park. It is so big! We should have gone ahead and paid for the carriage ride.

We bought a three day Big Red Bus tour pass but ended up not using it that much. Come to find out it really doesn't drop you off very close to where you actually want to go. A lot of walking wasn't working with my COPD but little did we know I also had A-Fib. We had to stop often for me to rest.

So Mark had business the second day so we stayed on Long Island Monday & Tuesday, had a fabulous dinner at a Blackstone Steak House. I know I have photos on my phone of food but these posts will be long enough as it is. We also went to see the house from The Amityville Horror movie.

I'm just going with the flow of the pictures from my camera. I left the pictures at medium so click on them to enlarge. We stayed at the J. W. Marriott Essex House across from Central Park which was amazing.  We had four nights there.

Wednesday:

So we started with a walk into Central Park. The park is huge and we really needed more time spent there so maybe next time. There are a few things I missed seeing that were on my list. We had lunch at Tavern on the Green and that was a nice treat.

Pretty covered walkway.....

Beautiful Bridge but I don't know the name.

Cute little guy eating a snack....

Okay I need to explain here. Yes I had to see the Bethesda Fountain. Many of my adventures in NY were because of movies I've seen. Sadly when we got there we realized I couldn't walk down to the fountain. There was no handrail so I didn't feel safe with my knee. (Knee didn't hurt much during this trip)

Also I have a thing about having people in my photos. Not an easy task all the time. The ones that follow this one were taken by Mark. He went down to get photos under the bridge.

I love the birds on the wings....

Beautiful ceiling.....

A photo of the Essex House where we were staying.

The view from our window, isn't it amazing!

Isa Genzken's Two Orchids to New York City

We had room service on Wednesday Night.

Thursday:

Of course we had to visit Time Square and I needed to see the ball that drops on New Year's Eve. I have to say I wasn't impressed with the area. Very crowded and lots of construction going on. It was the one place we were approached by beggars and such. It was a bit scary.

We needed to get our bus tickets in Time Square.

The New Year's Ball!!

I imagine we went back to the hotel to get ready for our evening out. Had to visit Sardi's Restaurant. Famous people go there, especially actors from the theater's.

Of course we didn't see any but I've always wanted to see the caricatures on the walls. The meal was delicious. I hope to go back someday. We went there before our play "Book of Mormon."

Billy Crystal and of course Barry Manilow whom I love.

We thoroughly enjoyed the play.

Part two coming tomorrow.....

I have never been to New York City. I've been to smaller cities in New York but never there. Looks like you had a great trip

I'm the same about people in my photos. I don't like it at all, unless of course it's family. In which case it's okay.

Oh, I recognise that restaurant from one of the Muppet movies, I think the one with Charles Grodin being a crook and trying to frame the Muppets.
I would love to see Central Park one day as well. Mind you, there is so much on my list to see I haven't got time to work...

You did a lot in your short time there! I would have had to eat at Sardi's too. Looked like the weather cooperated too for your time there. I hope you can get back to New York again to finish up seeing all you want to see.

I enjoyed seeing all the pictures, really like that covered walkway and the skyline. I read to many mysteries and movies when I hear Central Park I think murder or serial killers. LOL since that is the only time I see it. I visited NY at 8 years old but only have fleeting memories.
and as for that gold statue, phooey on him ... I just said to bob as I held up our dried black eye peas for this Mondays dinner, See this? you can thank Sherman for them. he said WHAT? I said he left the fields of blackeyes alone when he raped the south because he said they were cow food.

I love seeing photos of New York - have been there many times - but years ago. You saw a lot of interesting places. Seemed like a lot of fun - very exciting!

It's been a long time since I have been in NYC. I remember Times Square being pretty scary and dirty and even pornographic back then...late 1960s. So I enjoyed seeing your beautiful pictures and reading your commentary. Glad that your health was good for the trip. I am told that the cemetery is a wonderful place to visit in NYC because of the notables buried there and th beautiful statuary and all the history.

Oh, now I want to hop a plane to JFK!

A carriage ride in Central Park and dining at Tavern on the Green have both been long-time fixtures on my Bucket List.

Hard to believe any public venue in this day and age wouldn't have hand-rails. Can you imagine in the winter if the stairs were to freeze? Ohhhh, the lawsuits!

Such great photos of Central Park! Ive been there before in summer but not with Todd. He really wanted to go but it was raining too hard and getting dark. Loved your pictures!
