WEDNESDAY HODGEPODGE

Volume 319
~ Thank you Joyce ~

1. Can you believe we're rolling in to the Labor Day weekend? What's a project you'll labor over this fall?

No I can't believe it. This year has flown by and all I can think about it that Christmas will be here before we know it.

I will labor over getting our house back in order. Between my knee pain, flying to Florida three times to help out with my dad and of course my knee surgery I think we need some good Spring cleaning right about now!

2. Tell us about the best perks you ever had in a job?

I haven't worked a lot but the best perk for me was working at Hallmark and getting a nice discount on the ornaments.

3. August 31st is National South Carolina Day. Have you ever been to SC? Any desire to go? According to Southern Living, these are the top ten things to do in South Carolina...

Explore Charleston, bike, golf or relax on Hilton Head Island, see the beach and the boardwalk at Myrtle Beach, visit the state museum in the capital city Columbia, observe the wildlife and natural beauty of the Ace Basin, take a walk or hop on a trolley and check out Greenville's charming main street, visit Fort Sumter where the Civil War began, stroll through Pearl Fryar's Topiary Garden in Bishopville leaving time to check out The Button Museum, also in Bishopville, see Morgan Island (also known as Monkey Island)-home to nearly 4000 Rhesus monkeys.

Which is most appealing to you today? If you're a SC native, resident, or frequent visitor what would you add to the list?

I haven't been and yes I would love to visit SC. I'm going to say Hilton Head Island.

4. Beef, pork, country-style, barbecued, baby back, spare or short...your favorite kind of rib? What's a dish you enjoy that really 'sticks to your ribs'?

I will say country-style ribs is my favorite but I am not a fan of barbecue sauce.  I'm going with Risotto.

5. What's one important skill you think every person should have? Why?

I'm really not sure but I am going to say that you should know some basic things about cars and how to change a tire. These are not skills that I have. Let's face it, everyone should know how to wash and iron clothes which is a skill Mark actually taught me when we were dating.

6.  Insert your own random thought here.

I had my staples out last Thursday. Doctor was very impressed with the motion I had with my knee. I had my first session of physical therapy on Monday. At the consultation I was given an A+ and some high fives!!

He was so impressed with what I could do after 17 days of surgery. He said most people do not reach this point for at least six or more weeks after surgery. Then I did my first session of PT and it went really well. I should have six weeks of therapy twice a week. They expect me to be done with the walker by next week.

it is amazing how quickly you have recovered and how good your knee looks. Savannah is my home, and SC is across the bridge, so I have been to most of the places listed. as for the one skill I think how to handle finances, work within a budget. seems there are more now that can't than can. cars skills are great and bob's have saved us a lot of money and heart ache, but ihave none but how to drive one

How exciting that you may give up your walker sooner than you had thought! You have amazed the doctors and therapists, I'm sure! Keep going girl!!

1. Can you believe we're rolling in to the Labor Day weekend? What's a project you'll labor over this fall?

Since I have retired I find my weeks and months fly by really fast!! As for a project, I actually have a couple that have been requested by a friend that I will be working on if I don't get them done ahead of time.

When you have been put down, or set aside for surgery, things pile up fast, just don't over do things.

2. Tell us about the best perks you ever had in a job?

Best perks - working for Photo Services for the state I got to attend several Governor parties. Best perks - Working for the TN Bureau of Investigation - the making of some really good long time friends.

Working for Hallmark and getting discounts on amazing ornaments would be a major PLUS.

Yes I have been to there and thru there. Its beautiful. Monkeys? Really?

Which is most appealing to you today? If you're a SC native, resident, or frequent visitor what would you add to the list? Seeing the monkeys! haha

4. Beef, pork, country-style, barbecued, baby back, spare or short...your favorite kind of rib? What's a dish you enjoy that really 'sticks to your ribs'?
I am with you....country style, more meat! haha...and cole slaw with them...and baked beans.

5. What's one important skill you think every person should have? Why?
Skill....I would think how to use your hands in something that could bring in extra money or to make a living with. I for one learned the skill of the camera, that allowed me to have a small business that helped me to pay off my home sooner. I have also made extra money crafting and painting.

6. Insert your own random thought here.
Awesome on your A+ and doing so well. I think some folks just heal better and faster and then again, doing what the doc says and doing your PT really helps. IN 2012 I had shoulder surgery, I was told 3 to 6 months PT, I was out in 3! Keep up the good work.

My random thought today is ~ well the weather has been cooler this week in Nashville. We have been in the mid 80s with no humidity and it just makes me wish for fall that much more. I have been thinking of fall for weeks now, my fav time of the yr and I am so ready.

Thank you for coming by the blog. Hoping you cont to improve each passing day.

Good for you!! That's great news. You've had a busy year. Maybe you should take a break before the housecleaning. My sil and I tried to change a tire once. We finally were able to get those lug nuts off, but man it was hard. She did most of the work. I've never changed a tire myself. Somebody always came along to help in my younger days.

That's great with the progress you've made, Debby! You will be up and running before long! Glad that the recovery has been so far a relatively smooth one! I too can't believe we are going into Labor Day weekend. The year is flying by!

So agree about learning basic car mechanics. Never did, but thankful for AAA!

I agree about having some basic car knowledge; certainly if you own one!

No, no, no. Don't go to Hilton Head. Come to Charleston. I'll show you around and we can drive to Hilton Head if you want to go. It's only an hour and a half from us. :) The man here made sure the girls knew all about cars. They can change the oil, diagnose some problems, change tires, etc. They love being able to do this and the boys have always so impressed. LOL So glad to hear your knee recovery is coming along so well! Keep up the hard work!

I'm so happy to hear the good news about your knee!!! I have a friend who's going through therapy and she's having a really hard time.

Yes, Christmas will be here before we know it, Debby... and you and I will be busy little bees :)

Take care,
Kathy (Reflections)

Hilton Head is an excellent choice! I often went there with my family as a kid. It has a fond place in my heart.

I, too, dislike sauce on my BBQ meat.
Congrats on becoming a 'star' pupil at rehab. Mark must be sooooo proud of you!

I am so proud of how well you have done after your surgery. Hubby is having a terrible time with one of his right now. Will see an ortho doc next week. I'm not a big fan of BBQ sauce either. I want to taste the meat not the sauce. Hoping your PT goes as well for you as everything else has. You're a trooper, my friend!
