Welcome to Tuesday 4
in honor of the memory of Toni Taddeo!
Today's subject was inspired by Elena Leno, Toni's daughter. Toni and I shared a love of many things including Agatha Christie, upstate NY and trains, trains and more trains!
1. Do you enjoy riding on trains, planes or boats? Got a tale to tell us?
I think I can say I have enjoyed all three ways of transportation. Flying would be my least favorite only because you're way the heck up in the sky. I've only been on basically smaller boats or maybe a ferry a few times.
When I was like 12 I took a train from Illinois to Southern California all by myself. That's not something a parent would do today! I was tagged and they watched over me. I just have some memories of talking to the woman next to me and going to the food train to eat a hot dogs.
2. The Orient Express is super luxurious with 5 star accommodations including real bedrooms, cocktail bars, etc. It stops along a route that includes, London, Berlin, Bucharest, Venice, Paris, Prague and Istanbul. Agatha Christie's Murder on the Orient Express is set on the train. You can choose your itinerary from the lists their site offers. Of the places shown here, which cities interest you the most and why?
I have been to London and Paris. Actually drove from Paris to Italy which was fun. I think I am going to say Prague. My family came from Czechoslovakia (Bohemia) and Prague was sometimes mentioned growing up.
As an adult in Illinois there was a restaurant called the Prague which served our traditional Bohemian food like pork, dumplings and sauerkraut. I still say I'm Bohemian because that's what I was told.
3. Do you think you would enjoy a cruise? Where would you go?
I want to think I would enjoy a cruise. I've never been on one. I would choose a cruise in Europe.
4. Given the time and the choice and money being no object will you travel to Europe via plane or luxury liner?
Yes I want to get back to Europe someday. Especially London and surrounding towns. Most likely I would take a plane.

I'd love to visit Prague as well! I think it would be really cool to take a train ride across the US too. I'm probably not doing a whole lot of traveling this year though.
I rode the trains from 3 months old until I was 28.. several times a year, but did not ride by myself until the summer i was 17.. from Savannah to Bradenton, back and forth many times. i would love to take the wild west tour on amtrak. i have never been out of the USA.. hope you get to go back to europe sometime
Wow what an adventure on that train Debby! Yep times have changed so much but imagine that your parents thought you were responsible enough to do it with being tagged and all, but still they knew you would follow rules etc. My brother and SIL did a lot of international travel. They enjoyed it a lot and would tell us of their travels. Me, I like to stay on the ground, so no Europe for me though if travel ever opens up again I would consider Israel.

Waaaay up there … yep! Tho' I've never had a close call, I've always been terrified of dying in a plane crash. My dream is to take a European river "wine" cruise someday. Well, except I don't want to fly so there's that. LOL.
Of the three I've only ever traveled by plane. I've never been much of a traveler but if someone else was paying I wouldn't mind seeing some of the world.
I an a huge Anglophile but for some rason London does not appeal to me. I would love to spend a month driving around the villages and towns... My maternal family line hailed from Britain around the Cotswold. Now that area draws me right in!
Prague is gorgeous! And I ve heard it a friendly city as well. :)
Thanks for joining in!!
Those would all be wonderful places to visit. And yes to a River Cruise around Europe. I have never taken an actual train trip and it's always been something I think I would really enjoy.
I'd like to do a European river cruise. Otherwise, I'm not a huge fan of cruises. I did one to Greece and Turkey that was okay, but I would have preferred to travel in a different way.
