Each week we offer 4 questions for you to ponder, think over, blog about or ignore if you like! We keep up the tradition begun by Toni Taddeo!
Here are this week's..... all about January Linens.
1. White month is January when towels, sheets and household goods go on sale. Do you replace old sheets and towels each year?
No I don't. When the mood hits me is when I would do that. I can't ever remember being a January White Sale person.
2. How many sets of sheets and towels do you feel a household need and how often should they be changed on the bed and on the bathroom towel rack?
We actually just have one set of sheets and one set of towels. (although there are a few sets of towels in the guest bath too) I usually wash them and put them right back on the bed or the towel rack. We do have older sets that we have keep just in case of an emergency.
3. Do you think the January sales are a bit too close to Christmas when people have spent their money? If you do, what month would be an ideal time to replace linens and things in the home?
The one thing I like about after Christmas sales is buying some Christmas gifts on sale for next year. I usually give a Christmas dish towel to family members and I like buying them on sale after Christmas.
4. There is something so lovely about a linen closet with beautifully folded sheets, towels and blankets. Some place lavender in the closets for a relaxing beautiful scent. What do you do to make your linens nice? Fabric softener? Lavender? Special folds? Of is you linen closet in serious need of some tender loving care right now?
Don't have a linen closet in the house. There are some low cabinets in the front hallway by the two guest rooms but I haven't really used it for linen. I do like beautiful folded sheets and I have extra sets for the guest rooms. I keep them in the bottom drawers of the empty dressers.
Thank you Anne.

I had no idea that January was White month and that towels and sheet went on sale. I just buy them when I need them which isn't very often. I have several sets of towels and I think 3 sets of sheets. I used to change the sheets on the bed once a week but now it's probably a little longer.
I actually got rid of some sheets and duvet covers recently as I had way too many. And don't even start on towels! They will last me the rest of my life, I am sure.
I do the same as you with the king set we sleep on, wash and put back on the bed. i have 2 sets that are old and keep them for back up, like an accident needing to replace the sheets right away. I do the wash towels and back on rack, but during 2020 bought 4 towels and now I can replace and wash what was out. i have stacks of worn out towels to use as dog towels or pool towels.
my linen closet is somewhat organized but could be better. In the past from working 19 years at Sears, i always replaced lines in January when the white sale was on. just when i needed them. I acutally have 3 flat sheets that were wedding presents in 1963 when everyone gave sheets for wedding and shower gifts. they did not have fitted back then.
I don't think I have ever specifically shopped the January White Sales. I just replace things as needed,
I have two sets of sheets and alternate - putting lavender in the closet is a good idea!
I find great bargains on towels at Goodwill. I think all my bath towels are from Goodwill now. They usually sell for $1.99 each... so cheap! ~Andrea xoxoxo
Like you, we've one set of bedsheets that are laundered and immediately put back on the bed. I've got too much else going on to concern myself with folding a fitted sheet!
The last two sets of 'good' towels we bought came from an Estate Sale, in like-new condition. A little Gain detergent goes a long way!
I have never been a January white sale person. I get things when I need them but actually we just bought a new set of sheets for our bed from Costco last week. They had a set of micro-fiber Cal-King set of fitted, flat and 4 pillowcases for the unbelievable price of $15.99.
Couldn't pass that up. After washing they are on the bed and fit perfectly. Really happy with them. Usually good sheets for a Cal-King bed go for $50.00 and up!
We have queen sheets for the guest room and twin sheets for the spare room that has a trundle under the day bed.
my linen closet is not very orderly and something that I put off taking care of .
Lots of towels for our bathrooms as Hubby and I each use one and then there are the guest towels too. Bath, hand and washcloths.
Too much but why not?

We have closets in our bathrooms for the towels, etc. and the bed linens go right back on the bed, but the extras are stored in a dresser drawer or in a plastic tub on the shelf in our bedroom. I wish I had a real linen closet that was pretty and neat...but who's looking besides me? We rarely have guests and I provide their towels in their room and take care of the bedding before they arrive and after they leave... I wish I could replace all my towels and linens with new, but I'm not that rich. LOL. Have a blessed week.
I did not know January was white sale. It seems like I can always find towels on sale. I just grab them when I need them.
I am the same way with the sheets. They get washed and put right back on the bed and I have an extra set too. I am not a fan of folding sheets. Loved your answers! Have a nice week.

We have four sets of sheets and alternate.
Winter .. two sets of flannel to alternate.
Summer .. two sets of wonderful cotton to alternate.
I always thought I might be "odd" or "cheap" with only having one set of sheets that get washed and put back on the bed. But in reading your answers and reading other's comments, I guess I'm not so "odd" after all :) We did have a set of flannel sheets a few years back that I loved during winter but when they got too old, we just never replaced them. Maybe should one day. We have a nice size linen closet but not too many linens, pretty much a lot of stuff of hubby's that he couldn't fit in anywhere else, lol. I like your tradition of giving a Christmas towel as a gift. What a nice collection people could have over the years of them!
