1. Share one happy moment/memory from the holiday season.
The best part of this holiday season was the fact that Adam, Gabby and James, along with their dogs Roxy and Gracie, came over three weekends in a row. This has rarely happened during the pandemic and it was so wonderful to entertain and cook for them.
2. Let's be reasonable with our expectations going into this new year, k? What is one thing you'd like to accomplish/improve/complete/do in 2022?
I mention this every year but this year is the year to get rid of things. Clean out every drawer, closet and cabinet. This is a must, I just can't live with the clutter anymore. But I have to remember that it is one day at time, one project at a time. Otherwise I get overwhelmed and can't touch it.
I also think I have my "word" for this year. I will have to post about it.
3. Every January 1st (since 1976) Lake Superior University has published a list of words they'd like to see banished from the Queen's English. Words may be banished due to misuse, overuse or just general uselessness (go here to read more about how the words are chosen). Here are the words/phrases they'd like to see banished in 2022-
wait, what?-no worries-at the end of the day-that being said-asking for a friend-circle back-deep dive-a new normal-you're on mute-supply chain
Which of these words/phrases do you use regularly? Which of these words would you most like to see banished from everyday speech and why? Is there a word/phrase not on the list you'd like to add?
I have probably used "no worries." Definitely get rid of "asking for a friend!"
4. Best thing you ate in the month of December?
We had several yummy meals in December. I'm going to go with Mark's prime rib on Christmas Eve although an egg sandwich with cheese on a croissant was absolutely delicious. Best egg sandwich I've ever had.
5. January 5th is National Bird Day. Are you a bird lover? What's your favorite bird to see in the wild? Choose a phrase from the list that follows and tell us how it relates to your life currently...eat like a bird, bird's eye view, early bird, bird-brained, free as a bird, a little bird told me, or kill two birds with one stone.
I do enjoy watching birds. We have hawks that we see regularly. We have hummingbirds in the yard who enjoy all of our flowers. I love watching them but my favorite is when they rest. I do like seeing owls. We actually had a baby owl sitting on our fence the other day.
Since my brother passed away there is a hummingbird that comes when we sit outside and sits in the tree nearby and just talks up a storm.
I'm just going to say that after the celebrations since Thanksgiving I need to "eat like a bird!" The more carbs you eat the more you crave them. We are seriously going back to following a low carb diet.
6. Insert your own random thought here.
This was supposed to be a La Nina year for us which means no rain. We either get Santa Ana winds in the Winter or rain. Well they were wrong. We have had a lot of rain and with the rain comes beautiful snow capped mountains for us to look at.

Once again, I'm also wanting to declutter. I've been saying it for years and although I get started I never finish.
On that list of words/phrases I would add a couple because it drives me crazy the way people always use "legit" and "literally"
Your view, Debby is so absolutely amazing. I would never tire of that. And that sweet James. I am so glad you are now able to spend quality time holding, playing with and loving on that sweet boy. De-cluttering is a great goal for the year. Moving this time last year did that for me, but not a way I would recommend.
That's an amazing view. Moving house made decluttering a priority but we didn't downsize so if we ever do I'll need to do more decluttering. I don't think I could ever do for a totally minimalist look though. Yep I should probably be eating like a bird too. happy new year.
love the shirt. just about anything tastes good on a croissant. I do love them. the only thing i have used in the list of words is that said, not that being said. plus I only use it on my blog for some reason. not when talking. I am not a bird lover so will skip that one.
Oh I just love that stunning photo you posted! I also appreciate the urge to clean and declutter in the new year- it always feels so good to get the Christmas things down and then I inevitably move to other spots of the house as well. Good luck with your declutter and happy new year!
I just LOVE those last two pictures - the beautiful snow capped mountains and grandpa and James!
Oh that view, Debby! My goodness... breathtaking to say the least. And little James with Papa!! Both look so happy to be in each other's embrace. ~Andrea xoxoxo
I have good memories of the Christmas season, especially doing a zoom call during Christmas dinner with son and family that live in Oregon. It was fun to see them and chat like they were actually at the table.
I definitely need to get back on my diet again. Too many carbs have done me in. I don't want to be back in the diabetes scale again.
I don't like the phrase "the new normal" but I have to admit I am guilty of using it.
that's an easy one..the best thing I ate was short ribs at The Noshery. The whole meal was A+++
I love watching the birds that come in our yard. The hummers like the bush right outside my diningroom window. We finally have some woodpeckers back in our trees. Its been quite a few years since I have seen them. Their bills are amazing.
Its another gray blah day today. Dampish and chilly.. I do miss the warm weather.
That mountain scene is gorgeous! I’m with you, one day at a time to declutter. Good luck to both of us.
Happy Wednesday!
I need to get rid of things too. I have three boxes ready to donate, two of which I plan to take this afternoon.
Such a cute picture of James and Papa.
Maybe I'll get back to the Hodgepodge....we'll see!
"The more carbs you eat the more you crave them. We are seriously going back to following a low carb diet."
So true!
Your view is lovely.
I enjoyed your hummingbird story. xx oo
I LOVE the T - shirt. :-)
Happy New Year my friend.
Carla
I, too, struggle with "One Day at a Time." For example ... the other day I went looking for the broiler pan (don't ask!) and before you know it, 3 hours had elapsed. At least two large cabinets and the linen closet got a thorough re-do!
PS - Because we were at UAB today, Tom took me to Cheesecake Factory -- where I broke keto for the first time in 6 months. No regrets!
I think I say this every time I see a post with your view: You have the most gorgeous view! Just beautiful.
Hooray for 3 weekends in a row seeing your loved ones. Love your view and happy for the rain California has gotten. That t-shirt was a great gift! Happy New Year.
We have already begun the return to healthier eating. I love to indulge, but also love how it feels to get back to lighter meals and less heavy carbs. You have a beautiful view! And how fortunate you are to have all that family time. Happy new year Debby! Good luck with the de-clutter.
Love the picture of Mark and James!! What a cute idea with the shirt too! Did you make your own egg salad or get it in a restaurant or from the store? I do like egg salad sandwiches. I did hear the San Diego area was getting a lot of rain. Pretty with the view you have of the snow capped mountains! Looking forward to reading about what your word of the year is! I bet you enjoyed every minute of the time you got to spend with Adam, Gabby and James over those 3 weekends!
betty
Like you Debby, I am going to try and declutter, maybe if I start this month I will have some success this year. ~wink~
Your Christmas memory was so precious, I am so tired of Covid running our lives.
The photos are both precious and beautiful! Happy New Year,
Sue
I am happy for all the rain. We sure need it! Great picture of the snow!
I am right there with you about decluttering. After having to empty Mom's house and get rid of so much unnecessary stuff, I don't want my kids to have to do the same thing.
I am so glad you got to see your grandson often during Christmas. I see my granddaughter very seldom except through FaceTime and it really does hurt that we cannot be a regular physical part of her life.
Love the shirt!
Hi Debby, we had Prime Rib for Christmas, too.🎄
I enjoyed your answers. i agree with the "asking for a friend". Prime rib sounds amazing. I love that about the hummingbird. I love hummingbirds.
