WEDNESDAY HODGEPODGE #447

Thank you Joyce.
To play along click HERE

1. What do you wish you'd done more of last year? Less of?

Here is what I dislike about last year or even many years before. I haven't accomplished things in years and I got even worse during the pandemic. I hate the time I have wasted.

I wish I did less TV. For some reason the Hallmark movies got me through these times but that's pretty sad, isn't it? I'm still struggling to let go of the movies each day.

2. What's the tallest building you've ever been in? Do you have a fear of heights?

I don't seem to have a fear of heights in buildings. Now standing outside on a mountain top near the edge I would feel a fear of heights. I guess it would be the Empire State Building New York. Next would be John Hancock building in Chicago.

3. Do you have a word for word for this year? Elaborate if you'd like to elaborate.

Persevere and you can read about it HERE

4. January 11 is National Milk Day...are you a milk drinker? What kind? Your favorite recipe that calls for milk (cereal doesn't count)?

I don't mind milk but I don't drink it often at all. I do use Almond milk with oatmeal or Cheerios. I have a recipe that I make that calls for milk. Easy Provolone Chicken. Of course my Bohemian Hoska that I make each year has milk in it too. I usually keep a few of these in the cabinet.

5. What excites you most about the future? What do you miss about the past?

Watching James grow up excites me. Here he is showing off his new jacket from Aunt Amber and Uncle Dylan.

I miss so much from the past, especially family members and I have to say the America I grew up in.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

I did share this on Facebook so some of you have seen this. I started with a lung infections on New Year's Eve. It happens every year because I wear myself down being busy each day and then it happens. Stress doesn't help. I will try to make this short.

Started on my 5 day plan of steroids and antibiotics. Yes I am allowed to have them on hand because the soon you start the better. After the 5 days I wasn't really feeling much better. Two days after that I had a pre-scheduled appointment so I waited to see my pulmonary doctor. Sadly the woman that I see, who I love, had traded places with her father in law.

As it turned out he was awesome too! We decided to go with another 5 days of steroids and 10 days of antibiotics. The reason for my original appointment was to try a new drug which was a combination of two of the drugs I have been taking for years.

We were waiting until January for the price to go down because I go into the donut hole each year! So we went ahead with that plan which now I realize that we probably should have waited until my lung infection was gone.

Three days in on the new inhaler and I just kept feeling worse. I had two doctor's appointments on Monday and my BP was up into the 170's. Now I am not a person who looks up side effects on medications unless I'm feeling strange on something new. Very first side effect listed is High Blood Pressure.

Something else that happened to me the first morning after I started the new medication was that I woke up at 5 am feeling parched. I had to drink several glasses of water and had to put Refresh Tears eye drops in my eyes 3 times. I only use that a handful of times during the years. Yep, another side effect which I would have never thought of.

So I made the choice on Monday to go back to my old medications and maybe try again at a later date. By Tuesday morning I was feeling so much better and I think I'm just going to stay with the original medications for now. The delivery systems are way different and it works for me. These two particular medications are in a capsule inhaled powder form. The new ones are combined in an aerosol form and just didn't work for me.

So hopefully by this weekend I can get Christmas packed up.

Looking forward to seeing James on Friday night too! I never feel bad when I'm around him.

I'm glad you are feeling better. Sometimes the side effects are worse than what the medications are meant to treat.

That sweet James would be medicine for any ailment. I'm so glad you are doing better and hoping you will be able to accomplish those ambitious goals you have set for yourself this year. Don't look back, just keep moving forward. You can do this!

Love, love, love that sweet James. Thanks for sharing.

I feel the same as you about heights.

Awwwww, you poor (((((((((((soul))))))))))))! Oh yes, inhalers make a person's blood pressure skyrocket. If you have hypertension, it makes it go crazy. I absolutely can NOT take any sort of thing like that. I can't take things like Tylenol Cold and other cold medicines either. There's one cold medication that is made specifically for folks with hypertension. It's one of the standard OTC cold medicines but it has HBP in the title.... something like Tylenol HBP or something like that. Now that one I can take. Be careful, my friend. I'm still praying for you & hope you get well soon. PS~~ I love James' new jacket!! Of course, that little shaver would look darling in rags! *lol* ~Andrea xoxoxo

Managing medications is tricky and I hope you are feeling better soon. I finally got all of Christmas put away last week and while I dislike the job, it feels good to have it done. The house looks so bare initially, but we have workmen here all week so it's busy. Have a good day.

I beleinve we have to be our own health professional and health guard dog, we are the only ones that know how we feel. I think you made the right choice on stopping the new meds... yikes on dry mouth and eyes and BP. hope the old ones have fixed that problem. The Empire State building scared me silly, i was only 8 years old and refused to leave the wall by the elevator which had already scared me silly. heights on a tv show make me leave the room or cover my eyes. my list of fears is to long to list. I miss nothing about the past and am glad it is behind me. Well, I do miss being 40 years old, 77 is not a great age. I would like to return to 40 and STAY. the age not he time.

I am a little confused about your trying different medicines - but yes you do have to watch side affects and be your own advocate.
I sure hope you get better.
We all waste time - but that is good for us don't you think?
I love James jacket - I love to watch him too!
I agree with the world being different then when we grew up.
Have fun with James!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am with you thinking about how little I have one during this pandemic. I have to step up my game. I also "watch" things but I have found if I have Netflix on my tablet I will take it from room to room and mostly listen to shows while I actually do things. It works really well for most documentaries and I am kind of a documentary junkie!

I hope you feel much better, but honestly if I had a grandchild near me, a dose of time with them would be the perfect medicine.

I have to admit I spend far too much time on my computer, but it is a window to the world and my friends.

Empire State Building is probably the tallest building I have been in. I loved the view of NY from there.
I do fear heights though. I feel like I am going to fall.

Intentional is my word for this year. I commented on it on your post yesterday.

I really don't care for milk and have felt so much better since not drinking it daily or using it for cereal.

I love my grandkids and want to be around for their weddings and adventures.
Grateful to wake up every morning.

Life sure has its twists and turns.
I really am trying to "Take the High Road " this year.

I agree with all who've said we have to be our own health advocate. Given all the side effects Big Pharm doesn't tell you about, investigating could be a full-time job. No wonder you glean comfort from the Hallmark Channel! If it brings you even a measure of peace of mind, it's well worth it! Please keep us apprised how you're doing!

Oh Debby, I'm so sorry the new medications worked against you instead of for you. Hope you are feeling better and better. Hallmark brought a lot of us through. Our little grands are such a delight. Happy that you get to see James this Friday.

So sad that you have been feeling poorly, but very glad that things seem to be on the upswing. Seeing James will surely cheer you up... isn't it funny how grands have the power to do that for us?

That is such a cute jacket Amber/Dylan got for James! Love both pictures of James you posted here, Debby! You have had a time of it trying to get the right medicines to make you feel better! Its good that you know your body and what works and doesn't and it seems like that new medicine was definitely not helping (at least at this point in time). I am glad you are feeling better after stopping it and I know it will be a relief for you when you get Christmas taken down!

dropping in from the Hodgepodge and sorry to hear you were so unwell. I hope you've got the medications sorted now and are recovering. Your grandson is cute. I think many of us will look back on the time of the pandemic and feel that we didn't get much done. I don't think we should beat ourselves up over that though. It's been a very strange time.

I'm glad you're feeling better. That does not sound like fun.

I can see why you never feel bad around James!
Glad you're feeling better. I usually don't pay attention to what the side effects can be because they have to list every little thing that COULD go wrong. You are so right about missing the old America. Things certainly aren't like they used to be. :(
