WEDNESDAY HODGEPODGE #567

Thank you Joyce.

1. Something you're working on currently?

I'm not working on anything specific right now but I am pushing myself to do something in the house each day like dusting a room. That way the house should stay pretty clean rather than rushing around to clean every room because someone is coming over. (Not like we have company very often)

2. Tell us something about your first job? Was it a positive or negative experience for you? Did your parents insist you work while in school (either high school or college) or did you work because you wanted to?

My first job was right out of high school and one of my classes found me the job. The class taught you all kinds of things a secretary would do. Yes, it was a positive experience.

The company was called E. L. Essley and they sold big machinery. This was just the office for sales. I did all kinds of things like handling the mail, working the switchboard when she went on break. I learned how to use a lot of the old machines they used at that time in offices.

No my parents didn't make me, it was just what you did after graduation.

3. Have you ever had a job that required overnight travel? How did you feel about that? Have you ever had a job that required you to wear a uniform? Do you work better in the morning or at night?

No, I never traveled and I didn't have to wear a uniform. My job was a day job.

4. What's something you bake or cook that is labor intensive? Is it worth it?

I actually don't do much of that anymore. Our meals are simple. However I know that baking at Christmas was a huge deal for me. I used to make so many different things. It was definitely worth it at the time.

5. One thing you're looking forward to in the month of September?

The last weekend in September we are flying, with Adam, Gabby and James, to Houston for a few nights to visit with Mark's mom. James keeps talking about seeing his great grandmother again. She is 96 and now lives in a retirement community.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

I have shared pictures before of James holding airplanes. That's what he is into these days. Mark did a search for children's shirts with airplanes and found this on Etsy. Isn't it adorable. James loved it!

We went to Adam and Gabby's on Sunday. It was a fun day and Gabby's Mom, Sister and her family were all there. The kids had a great time swimming and hanging out.

On Saturday Adam and Gabby went to a park they hadn't been to before. Roxy and Gracie headed for the water and went for a swim. I love this photo! James was spending the night with his cousins and come home on Sunday afternoon.

The #2 ~ That jogged a memory for me. When I was 15 my first job was in a dog kennel (naturally, I'm such a nature girl) in Mims, Florida, but I had my formal office training shortly thereafter in High School. It was a class called VOE (Vocational Office Education). We also learned everything a secretary and/or assistant to the Boss would do. It was good training. I actually had an aptitude for Accounting which became my profession but the VOE really helped teach a good work ethic and proper communication skills. Something that seems to be sadly lacking in many today.
James is so cute. Love his smile! I would like to be a pilot too but for now have to be content to fly on the ground. *giggle* It's still thrilling.
Hope your day is blessed. 💙

My first job out of highschool was Aetna Finance, as a credit checker, back then all credit checks were done by phone, I liked the job, and spent most of my pay check on clothes and shoes. I worked when in highschool, during summers only, minding toddlers at my aunts kindergarten school.
James is a doll and a cute pilot. LOVE the swimming dogs..

How nice you will get to bring James to see his great grandmother. I know it brings my mom and my mother-in law both so much joy to see the greats. It's cute that your hubs looks for shirts for James : ) Grandpas and their grandsons are something special!

I hope James and his great grandmother enjoy their visit together. Please take lots of photos! Our next door neighbor's son was just accepted into pilot's school!

Your first job as secretary sounds much like my own -- fulfilling and not terribly stressful.
I so love that Pilot James shirt, and have been known to 'get lost' while in Etsy. They've such great selections.
That's wonderful that James remembers his great grandmother and wants to see her. So many children don't know, and have little interest. I'm looking forward to hearing all about the visit!

First of all, James is absolutely adorable!
My first job ( in high school) was working behind a soda fountain in a neighborhood drugstore. I loved it! TheHub 's first job was in a concession stand at a park's swimming pool. We both decided we wanted our kids to have that same type of service experience when they were young. All three worked in food related jobs while they were in school.

Cute little pilot and shirt!

I'm going through my house room by room. I pick what to do next based on how much time I have and if I need any help and need my (tall) husbad here!

My first job was when I was 13. I worked in a little stand in the mall that sold hot pretzels and soft drinks. I think I was paid $1.87 an hour which was minimum wage at the time. To a 13 year old it was a lot of money though.

My first real part time job, while going to college, was for Sears in their snack bar. Great experience of learning the retail field and working with many different ages and cultures.
Working was just what you did...no force to do it.
Traveled when in the tourism field and also for Trade shows, conventions, and conferences. Loved it.
James as always warms my heart. What a cutie and that t shirt is perfect.

James in his pilot shirt is the icing on the cake that is my day, Debby! So sweet that he wants to see his great-grandmother, too. You certainly can tell when parents are raising their children right. Glad to know that you could all get together recently. We sure miss our grands!

Pilot James is adorable. The dogs look pretty happy too. It is always good to keep up with a house. Your Christmas cooking looked beautiful and quite labor intensive. BUT DELICIOUS! Have fun in Houston.

James looks so cute with his airplane shirt. That is nice that he will get to see his great grandmother. What part did they go to? I bet your cookies are good. Maybe we can meet up in the fall. Stay cool during the heatwave.
