The weather

To heal broken hearts

No I don't but I would like a Christian fish symbol on my ankle and a ladybug on my thumb.

8. You HAVE to watch a sports game. Would it be football (the soccer variety), football (the American variety), tennis, Formula 1 racing or chess?
It would be golf.

9. If you had the chance, would you go to the moon?
I don't think so. I don't think I could stand how long it would take.

10. Do you own your (adopted) country's flag and do you fly it?
I just have little ones, I do not own a big one. Well actually we do have the American Flag from my father-in-law when he passed for his years of service to our country. So the little ones I put out for the 4th of Jul.

So I hope you enjoyed this. Play along, don't play along but make sure you have a great day!

GIVE ME A TICKET FOR AN AEROPLANE

Ain't got time to take a fast train
Lonely days are gone, I'ma goin' to Florida
Cause my daddy needs to get better
(wow I should have been a song writer-NOT)

By the time you read this I should be in Florida visiting my dad. I am not sure how often I will be around to see you (no internet at dads house) but I do plan on taking some time off and I may be able to sit at a Starbucks to catch up. I will be here for several weeks and will try to do a few posts. You know that I live and breathe this each day so withdrawal will not be easy for me. Maybe I will actually find time to read a few books. Missing my family will also be hard and especially my precious girl Skye. OMG I have tears in my eyes typing that. {insert slap on face} Obviously my dad is the priority and that is why I am here.

Just one more thing before I leave don't forget to remember me! (yes I stole this too)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAD

~ Happy 87th Birthday Dad ~

If my father saw this picture he would say that those were the happiest times of his life. He was so proud of his family his buttons would pop! He worked very hard to give us everything we could ever want. He started out by being an usher at a local movie theatre in his neighborhood around 26th & Pulaski in Chicago called the Atlantic. Before you know it he was the manager and back then that was a pretty good thing. The sad thing about his job is that the owners always promised things but he never got them. (no retirement either) He was actually approached by a theatre owner in California years ago wanting him to move there and run their movie theaters. He turned them down because he didn't want to move us away from our friends and family. Family is and always will be #1 to him.

He could tell you story after story about those years in show business. Movies were a big deal back then, not like today where you have mega theaters everywhere. He would be in downtown Chicago at movie screenings all the time. The Elvis Presley fan club of Chicago use to hold their monthly meetings there. He had been invited to visit Elvis at his home one weekend but he turned that down too. Lana Turner also asked him to visit when he was in town. Back in the day he had Sonny & Cher on the stage there before they were big. We spent a lot of time there and that is where my appreciation for movies grew.

We made a trip to California once and had passes to some of the studios. I remember meeting Jay North who played Dennis the Menace on TV and I got to look through the camera on the set. We also saw Jerry Lewis making his movie Visit to a Small Planet (1960). I also remember staying in the hotel room because my parents did some tour that kids were not allowed to go.

He always says he could write a book and I tell him to write it all down but he says he can't do it anymore with his hands. I can only remember so many of them. He has a heart of gold and has been missing the love of his life, my mother, for 28 years now. Even at 87 he is sharp, still mails out every ones birthday cards in the family, drives and lives alone.

Here he is with Skye last October.

Little by little I see the changes coming and I cry. When my mother died of a sudden heart attack it was horrible but you go through all the steps and move forward. I often wonder if it's easier to suddenly lose your parent or to watch them grow old. This is breaking me to my core. I fear the day that he won't know me anymore. He and I are best buddies even though we live miles away. I love him with all my heart. Hopefully I can get to Florida in a few weeks to visit with him and do our favorite thing which is go to a casino!

With my children back in 1991.
I told him he wasn't supposed to bite off the ear!

Update: This was written before he went into the hospital last Saturday. Yesterday they put in a pacemaker which we are hoping will solve several issues he has been having.

11 ( missing 6) + 21 = 32 total (s/b 38)

It's our Anniversary today. We were married in 1972 on June 24th. Then we had a six year split after 11 years. We also got married on June 24th in 1989. (I thought that way he wouldn't forget the date) How is that for a story. So we really don't keep count, it just our Anniversary Day!

You can see our wedding in '72 our second wedding in '89 and a picture of us today.

You can click to enlarge this picture.

I fell in love with this song when I was watching Hairspray. So the part of my husband is being played by James Woods and I am being played by John Travolta. (my second love) I hope you find time to watch it because it's very cute. Watch for the shooting stars when they are dancing in the laundry!

I decided that this is officially our song now. Speaking of songs we, never had one before. My husband didn't like to dance so we didn't do the normal wedding dance song. We actually had our wedding at church, the dinner in the basement of the church. Then it was a big open house at my parents. My dad had remodeled the basement for this occasion and it had a lovely bar. Outside in the backyard a bar was also set up in the garage and the music was blaring. We left for our honeymoon which was at Mackinaw Island in Michigan but we were told that people stayed until 3am dancing and having fun! (remember this was the early 70's)

I love you honey ~ ALWAYS ~

P.S. You want to know about the always? Yes please! When we got married we had our rings engraved. I put Love always in his ~ he would only put Love in mine. I should have seen the signs.

I DID IT ~ I MADE THE PERFECT SHEET CAKE !

Thanks to Ree Drummond at Confessions of a Pioneer Woman and her cookbook ~The Pioneer Woman Cooks ~ I finally made a chocolate sheet cake that turned out perfect and was loved by all of us. OMG it is delicious! I am really loving her cookbook and if you don't have it I recommend you getting one.

Well here she is, my little girl Skye with her new haircut. She is not the poser she use to be, she turns her head away from the camera all the time now! Then Charlie wanted to get in on the fun. Doesn't she look so pretty with those bows in her hair. (Today I go for my haircut & color)

So this was Father's Day at our house. I didn't take many pictures. We had turkey, stuffing, green bean casserole, mashed potatoes, parmesan rolls, gravy, corn and of course that chocolate sheet cake I am so proud of. I also made Snicker Apple Salad that I saw over at Sonya's blog A Day in the Life.... but forgot to put it out. So I am working on it myself and it's very good. Skye and Charlie had a pool party, we played sequence, watched some golf and had a wonderful day.

Thanks for stopping over. My father is still not doing well. He is still dizzy with high blood pressure and can't walk without help. Actually yesterday morning he passed out and fell in the hospital. I plan to be going there soon but was waiting to see if he was going to go home so I could help him for awhile. We are concerned about maybe having to place him in a nursing home. Doesn't make sense when he was driving around a week ago and walking fine yet they are not finding anything wrong other then the BP and low sodium. I have a post coming up on Friday that I wrote before he went into the hospital. I'm not going to change it. He turns 87 on Friday. Thank you for all the prayers, I appreciate them very much.

WELCOME SUMMER

The astronomical beginning of summer in the Northern Hemisphere is marked by the June solstice. Depending on the year, the day that marks the offical start of summer can be June 20 or June 21. The following is a list of exact dates and times for upcoming summer solstices:

•June 20, 2008 at 7:59 pm EDT
•June 21, 2009 at 1:45 am EDT
•June 21, 2010 at 7:28 am EDT
•June 21, 2011 at 1:16 pm EDT
•June 20, 2012 at 7:09 pm EDT
•June 21, 2013 at 1:04 am EDT
•June 21, 2014 at 6:51 am EDT

The First Day of Summer is Earlier in Western North America. For the years 2009 and 2013, people in the Mountain and Pacific time zones and farther west greet the first day of summer a day earlier, on June 20. So when people ask what the first day of summer is, it not only depends on the year but on where you live.

The moment of the summer solstice in the Northern Hemisphere is determined by when Earth's North Pole axis is tilted most directly toward the sun. When this is occuring in the Northern Hemisphere, the Earth's South Pole axis is tilted most directly away from the sun, which marks the first day of winter in the Southern Hemisphere.

I HAVE ALWAYS LOVED THIS SONG:

Enjoy your summer :)

10 THINGS THAT I LOVE

My dear friend Amy tagged me with a ~I love Your Blog~ game to play. You can visit Amy over at here blog Keeping Up With The Schultz Family. Thank you Amy.

The rules are that I have to list 10 things that I Love and then tag some friends to play along.

(Besides the obvious, Family, God, Skye, Friends)
  1. Blogging
  2. Gambling
  3. Pizza
  4. Margaritas
  5. Movies
  6. Dove Chocolate
  7. Louis Vuitton
  8. Eating out!
  9. Freebies & winning giveaways
  10. Large Peanut Butter Cups

Today I am passing this on to my friend IRL Sarah. I did a post last October about her and thought that it was time for you to meet her all over again since I have many new followers since then. Her blog is called Share the 31 Secret (Proverbs that is!) I enjoy her blog so much. If you want a deal, want free stuff or maybe your interested in buying some Pampered Chef from her, I guarantee you will not be disappointed. Also she is getting her first shipment of reusable grocery bags (with her cute logo on them) so if you need some, and these are large ones, I am sure that she would appreciate you buying a few from her at a great price point.

She is a woman of God, a wife and a mother. She is saving her family so much money with all the great deals that she gets. She even teaches a class on how to shop with coupons. Do you know all the research that goes into each one of her posts? I really appreciate all the effort she puts in to save me money and all the freebies are fun too. I actually wanted to go shopping in her house the other day when I was there for lunch. Thanks for having me Sarah. She did let me shop in her Pampered Chef closet and that was fun :)

Okay, time for you to go and visit with her ~ bye bye
