POTLUCK

Serving up a bunch of random....

Well we did it, we went to see Breaking Dawn on Tuesday evening. I did not know what to expect from the movie other than what they show in the trailer, I have not read the books. Well I loved it! I was told it was a little bloody which is why I don't follow many vampire things and have enjoyed Twilight because it hasn't been bloody. I did okay with the blood. Mark and I haven't been to a full price show in many years, we like to go for matinee price. Well guess what? 60 is the age for senior citizen at the movies...who knew! I'm not saying I have accepted being 60 yet but we did get a low ticket price :)

Your not going to believe this. Well maybe you will, I still have my Christmas cards from last year that I didn't go through yet! When I receive cards I look at them but don't really read each of them, especially the letters. I always read them after Christmas, been doing that for years. Well this time I am most definitely late in doing that. Gee I hope I didn't miss something important in someones letter!!!

I did it, I went out and got us the Elf on the Shelf with the book. I just had to have one. It won't be used much but it's here and ready when needed!

I made the pie and it was delicious. I used the Pioneer Woman's recipe for her flat pies but did it in the regular pie form. I also have the Pampered Chef apple peeler corer which is so wonderful. If you don't have one you should get one. I made some apple crisps too! My son in law complemented me on the pie. The reason he liked it so much is because she doesn't use cinnamon, she uses brown sugar in her recipe. I do own her cookbook but she didn't have a direct link to this recipe on her blog.

Oh my our power just went out! We are having some of the worst Santa Ana winds that I can remember. That means internet is out too. Well I think I will take a break and go work on some paperwork I have to do. You know the ones, the lists on top of lists in order to get yourself organized for Christmas. The smoke alarms in each room are taking turns chirping. I'll be back.

Okay I am back....did you miss me? Our power was out for 2 & 1/2 hours. Well I got my paperwork all done. I did pick out the cards I want to mail this year. After working at Hallmark for over 7 years and always being drawn to the Christmas boxed cards I can say for a fact that I have enough stock to last for several more years.

I haven't even fluffed the tree branches yet. I am way behind but I know it will all get done. If your waiting to see pictures well you just might have to wait for Christmas to come! That will be my gift to you :) However I did put my Willow Tree Nativity on the mantel. I may not put out all the decorations but my nativities will get out along with all my Christmas Jim Shore pieces.

So on Tuesday I went an purchased a large amount of gifts cards. I have told you this before but we have 25 out of town people we shop for. They are all family and a few friends. I am doing gift cards this year so I got about 1/2 of them. So I go to Shell to get a GC for gas for our son in law, he will not put anything else in his car and appreciates the GC. Well they don't sell them at the Shell near our house. I told them I can buy them at the grocery store you would think Shell would sell them too. Then behind this Shell is a Chuck E Cheese which I needed a few gift cards at, well they ran out the day before! Oh well, life goes on.

I think it was my friend in Canada Modern Mom who shared her story about the one pound Reese's Peanut Butter cups her husband brought her back from a trip to Chicago. I had searched but could not find a place to buy them. Well they now have them at Walmart for Christmas at $9.88. I haven't opened it yet but it is one pound of pure pleasure. Two 8 oz. wonders!

I have a little secret. It only happens about every six weeks or so when I go to get my toes done. My daughter introduced me to Jack in the Box bacon cheddar potato wedges. OMG! So I treat myself after my pedicure. Now you know I don't get out much so I seldom do fast food but I think I had deja vu on Wednesday, or was it for real? (shush)! I went out to get more gift cards and shop at Hallmark and I may have passed a Jack in the Box on the way. I was lucky enough to be invited to shop at the store for 40% off. As much as I wanted to buy a million things for me I didn't (well just a singing snowman which is a must every year)and really I don't need more stuff but I did find some gifts and got a few more ornaments. (Like I need more of those too!)

There is a new show coming to OWN. When the OWN channel started January 1st, 2011 one of the show was called "My Own Show." I had watched it and it was pretty good. The winner would get their own show on OWN. Well if you have the chance to watch it I think you might enjoy it. The winner of the show was a man named Zach who is wheel chair bond. He is a riot and his show is going to be about travel. It will focus on what it is like to travel the world in a wheel chair and all the issues that he encounters. I can't wait to see his show. It is called Rollin' With Zach, click on over and check out the trailer. It premieres on December 12th.

My friend Laura made a video of her children decorating their tree. Please click on over and watch this video. It is just so cute. Just wait until you see how her littlest son puts the ornaments on the tree! Honestly this needs to be a Hallmark commercial.

Sorry, I didn't know it was going to be this long. I brought lots of dishes to share with you. I won't post for a few days so you can take your time here. Hope you have a great weekend.

I heard on the radio this morning about the Santa Ana winds. Of course I thought about the movie "The Holiday"!
I still have to watch the 3rd Twilight movie before I see the new one.

I have a young friend who loves Reeses and her dad got her those recently....first time I'd ever seen them that big. My tree is sitting with unfluffed branches too! Actually I just put an ornament on it....the one I got last nite at an ornament exchange at church. :) It's a nice Hallmark little home with the date and forever family on it. I really love it and I hope they have more because I get ornament for three young families and they would all love one of those. At least I think they would.

I've been hearing about the high winds you have been having out there. Wow! That's almost hurricane speed.

I don't get pedicures very often and we don't have a Jack in the Box so I'll have to pass on that! :(

Oh, I forgot what I was going to say...anyway, I enjoyed this post very much...hope all is still well out there. We saw the damage on the news.

We didn't get the winds like you guys did, Debby! No loss of power/internet here, just mild winds at times! But I did see the damage of the winds on the news this morning with trees down, etc.

That is a big Reeses!

I like gift cards, I know some people don't like getting them, but I like getting them and giving them! I found out my niece's school is selling gift cards for pretty much any and every store and they get a bit of money back from each purchase, which goes to the fund for a trip to Austria to help with expenses, so I'm sending a list of gift cards I want to purchase to my sister, she'll buy them and send them to me (I'll pay for them of course) but it saves me from running around town to get the gift cards I wouldn't be able to find at Vons or Ralphs at their kiosk. So its a win-win situation I do believe!

I'll have to try some of those Jack in a Box potatoes; they sound good!

enjoyed reading your post; lots happening in your part of Southern California!

Glad you like Twilight. I loved it! I can't wait for part 2 of breaking dawn I so hate we have to wait a whole year for it though. The books are just as awesome as the movie. Hope you have a great weekend ! HUGS

I saw these Reese's the other day and picked one up for hubs. I didn't like the price be he LOVES Reese's, so they are hidden until Christmas day:) I've been watching TWC on the winds, glad you're okay, very scary stuff. I can't wait to see Breaking Dawn, we are going next weekend to watch it. I spent last weekend watching all the Twilight's for the first time and in love with them:) Have a great weekend Debby!

I don't think I get OWN. :( You bought the Elf on the Shelf, and I want that too. I keep telling myself I need to wait for grandkids, but since you did it....just maybe I will too!

Chatty Crone said...

I have not seen Breaking Dawn and I probably won't at the movies this time.

You didn't read your Christmas card letters yet - that is so funny - a lot could have happened during the year girl.

I want to get an elf on the shelf too.

My sister lives in LA and they had a lot of damage by their house.

25 gifts for people out of town!
Gosh that has to be expensive. Do you want to do it for 26 people - lol! Just kidding.

Well girl - you are busy!

Whoa! I didn't know they made Reese's that big! Good thing I'm not a fan of peanut butter (and I won't mention that to my son-in-law who's a huge Reese's fan).

Have I mentioned how I love your new background? Makes me wish for snow! ;-)

Sounds like you are keeping busy and doing wonderful things.
I hope you guys are okay with all that wind stuff. We had some up here but not nearly as bad as others. Keep safe.

Being a senior does have some benefits, doesn't it? I myself have not been to a movie theater in a very long time, but I watch movies on Netflix streaming. Up until this month I still would get DVDs from them but I have cut back on some things lately.

Reeses is my all time fav.

I haven't seen Breaking Dawn, but I read all the books.

Love your big bunch of random!!! Those winds are crazy and I am glad you are safe!! I LOVE our Elf on the Shelf!!! I was talking with some teacher friends about trying to find cheap elves and just use my book and take the elves into school!!! I think that would make December so much easier for us teachers!!! At 30 bucks a pop though, I don't want to spend any more money into my classroom (already close to a grand... sigh).
Thanks for giving a 'shout out' to my kiddos decorating the tree. I posted it on the wall of Hallmark too. I would love for others to see it because it has a way of just making you smile. <3
Hugs-

What a great Bunch of Random!

I'd never heard of the Elf of the Shelf until a few days ago when my friend got one. And there's a book, too? How fun!

The show on OWN sounds like a great idea.

I really think Hallmark should hire you as an ambassador, you do such great PR for them. My friend works with them as a featured blogger.

If you scroll to the bottom of the page I'm linking to, you can see all of the featured bloggers.

We had horrible wind here on Wednesday night. I don't know if it was Santa Anas or not. Our power flickered and I was worried it would go out.

And I didn't know Jack in the Box had bacon potato cheddar wedges...I don't think I wanted to know either lol

I am so going to have to go look up that pie recipe. I LOVE the PW and one of our favorite desserts is her apple dumplings made with cresent rolls and....Mt. Dew! Also not in the cookbook, but on the site.

What a fun post! i have been tempted to get an Elf on the Shelo myself, but really can't justify it this year..we're trying to cut back a little..especially on house ornaments :-)

Love your photos and your blog tonight!

I loved the randomness of your blog tonight. It was like having a real conversation with a friend about how their day went. I have never heard of a Reese cup that big and will have to see if we have them at our Walmart. Of course...you have to remember that my Walmart is the smallest of all the Super Centers. We have one entry door! Ahhhh life in a small town. I am doing the gift card thing this year to our out of towners. Gifts have gotten so expensive to mail. Have a great day....and week.

Your procrastination with Christmas cards reminds of the year that we forgot to take down the Christmas tree. When my mother visited in July, she had brought Christmas gifts so that she would not have to mail them -- and she had a place to put them. We took down the tree the following January!

Wishing you a blessed Advent!

CB said...

OK thanks for making me hungry. I am thinking I need some Reese's and a trip to Jack in the Box (haven't been there in literally years).

Glad you liked Breaking Dawn - It was good.

I laughed about your forgotten Christmas cards and letters. I have to admit that some people letters go on and on and on and on (you know what I mean) that I never get them read.
Have fun and Happy Sunday!

Glad you liked your movie. Movies now days are a big treat. I remember when .25 would get you into a movie and some too. My hubby worked at Hallmark for 32 years and we have stacks of Christmas waiting in the attic. Have fun reading all your belated letters from last year. Should be fun to read what changes a year has brought. Stella

This was a great post! I was able to catch up with you all in one read! (I love the idea of videotaping my kids decorating the tree. When my tree finally gets up, I'm going to do the same!)

Thanks for letting me know my new button doesn't work. I'll try to fix it. I did something wrong on my blog Friday, and was so upset I decided not to blog all weekend. I needed a break from the computer!

I hope you had a nice weekend. :)

I'm glad it was a longer post, I feel good and caught up now:)
Thrilled that you found those Peanut Butter Cups! aren't they so much fun...and so yum! Thanks for the shout out my friend. They aren't as good as the chocolates in Paris but you won't catch me complaining too much!

Debby, glad you're starting to find that there are a few advantages to getting older! If your power was only out for 2 1/2 hrs, you were probably one of the lucky ones. I can't believe the winds y'all had! How is the tree-trimming going? Can't wait to see your tree. laurie

The rustic pie from PWs cookbook - that's what I made for Thanksgiving. I made mine flat and I had too many holes in the bottom of the crust and I lost all of the juices. It was more like a steamed apple pie. LOL It was great with Ice Cream thankfully!

25 gift cards - that's a lot! I can't imagine having to buy that many.

Hello There, Faithful Visitor!
Your post was definitely a bunch of random, but it was great random! I get my toes done too, but I was late this time, hence the cuticle picking! Merry Merry!!!

Oh, and one more thing. THANKS for the lead on the ribbon! Pretty pricey, but I think I'll do it anyway!

The video of the little guy decorating the tree is TOO CUTE! :-)

My husband would LOVE those Reeses-I'll have to see if they have them around here :-)

Your pie looks wonderful! I'll have to try her crust-I've always made the Betty Crocker one and it always cracks on me :-/

I've been seeing Elf on a Shelf on Pinterest everywhere!!! I am thinking I will be doing that with the kids...but wasn't sure if this year was a good idea. Gia is a little more fearful of things than her brother, so I think she might get a little creeped out by him and since Renzo isn't old enough to enjoy the concept, I figure I will start it next year. I cannot wait to do all the cute projects with him and all the mischief he will get into! Love the idea of Elf on a Shelf!

Does your power go out often? It used to many times a year when I lived in NH, but since moving to NY, the only time power has gone out is when there was a major black out the year I moved here. And there are some power outages during the summer months when everyone is running their air conditioners and they can't generate enough electricity for everyone (thankfully it hasn't happened in our area yet).

You may not have fluffed your tree branches yet, but we haven't even put our tree up. I figure Lorenzo is a handful as it is, why add that temptation into the picture any sooner than I have to. We'll be putting it up this weekend.

That show sounds cute, I will have to check it out. I have never heard of the OWN network...I wonder if we even have it here. I will have to look it up.

One pound Reese's Peanut Butter cups?! Be still my heart! I hope I never do find them, it is not a good idea to have chocolate with peanut butter anywhere near me, lol.

I love Reese's and that sounds like a lot of Reese's! Great gift idea, too!

Since my boys have gotten older, we do gift cards a lot. Makes so much sense. Just heard today of a site that will buy unused cards. I hate to say, but I have some I never even used. Love Barnes and Noble ones the best.

Will have to check out that show. I do remember that contest going on, but had lost track of it.

We never got into the vampire movie stuff. Just didn't think we would like it, even though it sure is popular with all age groups.

I stopped doing Christmas cards several years ago, and now, the ones we used to get have dwindled down. And, that's fine by me. I enjoyed it when the kids were little.

I do have my tree up, but not my big tree. I got a smaller one to put up this year, and it is so much easier. May do it again.

Enjoy the fun things of the season!
