WEDNESDAY HODGEPODGE

Volume 277
Thank you Joyce.

1. I read here four creative activities to try this month. They were-calligraphy, make your own cookbook, dance or learn a new type of dance, and letter writing. Which activity on the list appeals to you most? Will you add it to your August?

Calligraphy appeals to me, I've always thought it was beautiful but I doubt I'll be doing that anytime soon.

2. Bertrand Russell is quoted as saying, 'To be without some of the things you want is an indispensable part of happiness.' Agree or disagree? Explain.

I agree for the most part but isn't there always something we want? After you get that thing are you always happy? When is it okay to just be content?

3. August 17th is National Thriftshop Day...are you a 'thrifter'? If so, tell us about one of your best or favorite finds.

No I am not a thrifter. I can hardly shop at those stores like T.J. Maxx and Marshalls. I need everything to be organized and definitely new.

4.  On a scale of 1-10 (with 1= almost none and 10=loads) how would you rate your sense of wanderlust? What kicks your wanderlust into high gear?

I am probably an 8. It comes in spurts and it is usually after I watch something about a place I have never been.

5. Has life felt more like a marathon or sprint so far this month? How so?

I guess I would go with a sprint. Did a whole lot of that running from place to place in New York last week!

6. What do you need to get a jump on before fall officially arrives?

Nothing in particular except the same old cleaning out of closets, cabinets, dressers and drawers.

7. What's the last thing you did with friends or family where you lost track of time?

I can't think of anything specific other than staying up late and watching the Olympics!

8. Insert your own random thought here.

Our last view of New York
taking off from LaGuardia on Sunday.....
and of course Central Park which
we could see each day from our room!

Hi Debbie! Love these pictures, I've never been to NYC but have lived in New England my whole life. I need to take a trip! It's my first time joining the hodgepodge, I'm excited to meet everyone!

beautiful view of the city when you were leaving. i did see all your photos on FB but did not comment on all of them. i am keeping a low profile on FB..
i am a zero on the scale of 1 to 10 wanderlust. i can't remember a time with family or friends that i lost track of time, but i lose track every time i sit down to play on computer. hours pass with no sense of time passing.

Seemed like you had a great time in New York. I bet you will remember the trip for a long time. I like occasionally to go into a thrift stores just to see what is there, but rarely buy anything.

Glad you had a nice time in New York. I am watching the Olympics too. I do some thrifting. And I agree not having everything is a good lesson.

What beautiful photos of NYC, Debby! So happy you enjoyed yourself! I stayed up past midnight last night watching women's beach volleyball. USA got beat by Brazil...BOO!

I'm so glad you had a great trip. NYC is exhausting so hope you're resting this week. I think I have the same issue with thrift stores. I need organization and they always feel anything but. Have a great day!

Nice pics of NYC. I agree about thrifting. I don't do it that often and I like a store where the outfits are all put together so I don't have to figure it out! :-) I'm really just not a shopper.

I sure enjoyed 'peeking over your shoulder' as you experienced NYC, Debbie! Actually, your destination was a big surprise; I was sure you and Mark were headed to Paris!

I totally agree with what you said about TJ Maxx and Marshall's. The consignment shop I like best could give upscale department stores a run for their money. (No pun, intended!) Not only are their racks segregated by type and size, but by color, too! I think each shop develops its own 'personality.'

The weird thing is that I will accept second hand clothes from friends, but will not buy them in a charity shop! Books however, is another matter altogether. Although I have gone over to the dark side just a bit and got myself a Kindle!

"The same old cleaning out..." Isn't that the truth? I feel like it's just a big circle. I get done cleaning out and organizing one thing, move on to the next and by the time I've finished that...the first thing needs organized again!

"When is it okay to just be content?"

What a great question Debby. Makes me think of how much of a balancing act life is.

I think I'll go with marathon. The only Sprint that I seem to have these days is connected to my cell phone. ツ

I've discovered an online thrift shop (Thredup) that I really love. most of my clothes I took on my honeymoon I got there. I like that you can search by size, color, style, etc.

Love your hodgepodge, and really hoping you'll be writing about your recent traveling adventures! I have wanderlust myself, and if I can't get out there and explore the world, I'll settle for reading about the explorations of others!!

GOD BLESS!

I should spend more than a day in NYC. Maybe I'd like it if I could get to more than just the main tourist traps. LOL I thought it was funny once, when we were flying to London, that some Londoners were on their way home from Chicago. I guess wanderlust captures us all. :-)

LOL I must say Marshall's and Ross make my OCD go a little nutty. But I keep telling myself the deal! When I have to buy dresses for my work trips I always go because I refuse to spend a ton on a dress I'll wear the one week and then on occasion to church.
