My last movie post was on October 15th. All I can say is that I am happy I pushed myself out of this house to see some movies.
Of course it also helped having Mark home during the holiday's because he could drop me off closer to the theater.
Also with the Academy Awards in the near future I need to be prepared because that is my pleasure.
On December 27th Mark and I went to see La La Land. This movie was a delightfully different musical and thoroughly enjoyable.
I wasn't sure about Mark liking it but he did, we both loved it. Of course it helps to have two great actors like Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone in the movie!
"A jazz pianist falls for an aspiring actress in Los Angeles."
The next day I went alone to see Manchester by the Sea. This story was very good, powerful and sad. There are a lot of very serious movies this year which is wonderful.
Not that I love seeing other people in pain but it does bring an appreciation to what you need to be thankful for in your life.
"An uncle is asked to take care of his teenage nephew after the boy's father dies."
An uncle is asked to take care of his t
Next up was The Accountant. Went to see this one for Mark and it was an excellent movie. One of those that catches you by surprise. I really liked this one a lot!
"As a math savant uncooks the books for a new client, the Treasury Department closes in on his activities and the body count starts to rise."
Mark and I went to see Passengers on January 2. I really wasn't sure what to expect from this movie but we both found it very enjoyable and exciting. What a concept for a movie in space. Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence are always fun to watch and I am also a fan of Michael Sheen.
"A spacecraft traveling to a distant colony planet and transporting thousands of people has a malfunction in its sleep chambers. As a result, two passengers are awakened 90 years early."
I went to see Fences on Wednesday. Wow, I was very impressed. Viola and Denzel were amazing. This is an excellent dialogue movie and a powerful story. I found it very interesting that they both did the revival of Fences on stage in April 2010.
"A working-class African-American father tries to raise his family in the 1950s, while coming to terms with the events of his life."
So stepping out to do something fun we ended up going to see Office Christmas Party with Adam on Wednesday night. Sometimes you just need a good laugh from a crazy movie which we all enjoyed. Fun cast of characters!
"When his uptight CEO sister threatens to shut down his branch, the branch manager throws an epic Christmas party in order to land a big client and save the day, but the party gets way out of hand..."
Since we can't get to the show to see every movie that comes out I want to mention that we recently watch an excellent war movie called Anthropoid. We recently saw War Dogs too which was a good movie.
We still get two DVD's each week from Netflix of the newest releases so we usually watch a movie on Friday and Saturday evening.

Looks like lots of good movies. I rarely see any movies and when someone talks about a newer actor I have no idea who they are
4 of these I have seen ads on TV and want to see them. the only 2 I would not is la la and the space thing. the others I would like to see. glad you are getting out and back to your favorite thing to do.
I love reading your movie reviews.
Lots of good movies out there that you saw! I wonder if you can get a temporary disabled license permit so you can park closer to things while your knee is being sorted out. Might be a good idea to mention it to the doctor the next time you see them.
betty
Some very good movies you've recently enjoyed. Hope you are having a nice weekend.
you make a great movie critic...we don't get out to the movies very often anymore...I am looking forward to seeing Dirty Dancing the original they are bringing it back at the end of the month for a few shows...a group of my gal friends are going...
There weer a couple there I want to see. I saw Rouge - Star Wars - did you see that - what did you think of it?
I've been tempted to see Passengers. So I hope it runs for at least one more week!
Enjoyed your thoughts on these Debby. Thanks for sharing.
Oh, I hope Fences is still showing next weekend!
I'm still surprised at the impression The Accountant made on me. First flick in ages I'd like to go watch again.
... and try to figure out just where the wool was so successfully pulled over my eyes, not once but twice!
The only recent movie i've seen is Sing. I took my friends boys who i adore to go see it with me. Its so cute!
I really really want to see La La land. Emma Stone is my favorite actress.
I'm still trying to find someone to go see Lala Land with me - I'm just going to have to go by myself.
What a nice lot of reviews! I have not heard of any of these, but then I try to avoid theaters during flu season. The last movie I saw in the theater was "Sully." That should make you grin. =D
I'd like to see Fences. But I haven't been in a theater in years, so I'll wait for DVD/Netflix.
Hi,
I always enjoy your reviews.
Thank you, Debby!
