WEDNESDAY HODGEPODGE 2017

Volume 292
Happy New Year!
~Thank you Joyce~

1. Share one favorite moment/memory from your Christmas holiday.

We Skyped with Amber and Dylan in Montana. So much better than just having a conversation on the phone.

2. What was the best thing you ate over the holidays? Was it homemade or store bought? If it was homemade did you make it?

I always put out a lot of appetizers which are always yummy. I made homemade meatballs which were delicious.

We started the tradition of Lou Malnati's frozen pizza from Chicago a few years ago so I get to join the party and not spend all day in the kitchen. I work on all the appetizers before our party begins and then I can relax with everyone else.

I tried a new cookie this year which was pretty easy and delicious. Had a few failed recipes too which always bums me out.

3. What was one of the most beautiful things you saw over the holidays?
~Adam and Gabby~
Love is in the air....
4. What does fresh start mean to you?

I'm not really sure. I think it is just about living each new day at a time and letting go of the things that have happened that you can't change.

5. On a scale of 1-10 (with 10 being very positive and 1 being not so great) how would you rate 2016 in terms of personal achievement and well being? Explain.

This is from Facebook, I did a survey on New Year's Day.

"Deborah, the past year has changed you completely! You've seen your life from a completely different angle and this led you to new experiences. You should share your insight with the world!"

"There is no reason to look back, when there is so much good in front of you."

I will put my well being at a 7 .......

6. Every January 1st since 1976 Lake Superior University has published a list of words they'd like to see banished from the Queen's English. Words may be banished due to misuse, overuse, or just general uselessness. Go here to read more about how the words were chosen or, if you're like me, to find out what in the world the word or phrase even means or the context in which it's used. There were quite a few on this year's list I'd never heard before. Here's the 2017 list of banished words-

You, Sir-focus-Bete Noire-Town Hall Meeting-Post Truth-guesstimate-831-historic-manicured-echo chamber-on fleek-bigly-ghost-Dadbod-listicle-get your dander up-selfie drone-frankenfruit-disruption

Which word on the list would you most like to see banished in 2017? What word or phrase would you add to the list?

Get your dander up! I have nothing to add at this time.

7. Large or small, light or deep, share with us one goal you have for the new year.

Get rid of....dispose of, throw away, throw out, clear out all the items that keep me locked in a feeling of being overwhelmed with stuff!

8. Insert your own random thought here.

Received some awesome Christmas gifts, things that I asked for......

Two new charms for my Pandora bracelet. I think it is full now. Needed one more Christmas item and the Cubs baseball is in honor of watching them win the World Series with my Dad!
Also a cute ornament from Adam and Gabby from their recent trip to Cabo San Lucas.....

That is an interesting ornament! So nice to see Adam and Gabby looking so happy! Great thing for them both!! Looked like you got a great variety of Christmas gifts! Start working on disposing your stuff a little by little. Make one goal, i.e., closet, and then work slowly but surely and it will all get done. You'll sort out what you don't want to keep, etc., and will feel less overwhelmed. You can do this!

love the little purple ornament. and the happy couple look truly happy and so pretty and handsome. I would like to go through my kitchen cabinets and dump stuff . you sure got a lot of nice gifts. as for the queens English, I don't care what they leave in or leave out of it. bob would love your homemade meatballs.

You can't get rid of 'get your dander up!' It's one of my favourite sayings!! There is a British series that ran 16 years ago and in it was one person who was told 'not to get his dander up' and he replied: 'get my dander up? I won't even give it a nudge with a wet flannel'. It just stuck with me and I love that saying.

Love your Pandora charms. I've wanted a bracelet for a while but end up asking for other things instead. I have to get rid of some stuff too and hope to get some things listed on ebay this year. Have a great week :)

Part of the fun of trying new recipes is finding the ones that don't work out. Have a Happy New Year.

It looks like you received some very nice gifts. I especially like the charms. That skull/mask ornament is pretty cool, too. :)

Have fun with the de-cluttering. I think it is going to take me another 50 years to do that! :)

Have a blessed day!

The starting fresh and not worrying about things that have happened because you can't change them is a big part of the serenity prayer.

We skyped with our Nevada family this past Sunday night. Not sure how they did this, but they projected us onto their living room wall so it looked as if we were sitting (life size) in the living room. Pretty cool.
And yes, so good to be able to see them as well as hear.

Decluttering two houses is on my radar. Started with the fridge!

I think you are on to something good, with being able to join the party on Christmas and not be stuck in the kitchen :) I'm going to do some serious thinking about that before next Christmas.
Adam and Gabby look happy. Glad to see it!
You must have been a very good girl, this year, receiving all of those awesome gifts. Glad to hear you had a good Christmas.
Girl, I feel your pain about being overwhelmed with stuff! I'm bursting at the seams.

How exciting about Adam and Gabby! She's so pretty. Looks like Santa found you to be a good girl last year. :) I am determined to order one of those pizzas for the Super Bowl. Depending on who goes. Because, if Atlanta is in it, I'm not even going to watch. Stupid Matt Ryan. And that's all the football rant I will do. LOL

I agree with your number seven!! After living in the same place 27+ years, there's lots to sort. Sweet pic of Adam and Gabby. They look so happy!

I'm so glad to hear your son is happy! We're grateful here for technology too. So nice to see your grown children when they live away. Happy new year to you Debby! Good luck with your goals!

Ahhh...you have an Adam, too. =D

I'm still eating a few of my recipe flops...spooning divinity dudge for example. 🙃

It sounds as if you had a good Christmas and I wish you a Happy New Year!

Happy New Year! That Christmas ornament is a little frightening. The color is nice though. So far this year my eating habits have improved. Here's hoping that the trend continues. I hope that you have great success in your efforts along those lines as well. God's blessings in the New Year.
