WEDNESDAY HODGEPODGE

Volume 201
Join us....what are you waiting for?

1. What is one new holiday tradition you'd like to establish, or one you've established recently, say in the last year or two?
We have been decorating Gingerbread Houses on Christmas Day for the last few year however we are skipping that this year.

We also established eating our favorite Lou Malnati's pizza on Christmas Day with all kinds of other treats and that for now is staying. I love the fact that I don't have to spend my entire day cooking in the kitchen.....I get to join the party!

2. It's the second week of December. Have you sipped a cup of eggnog yet this month? Wrapped a gift? Opened a gift? Kissed someone under the mistletoe? Lit a candle? Eaten a Christmas cookie? Seen Santa in person? Watched a Christmas movie or special? Read scripture relating to the birth of Jesus?

I have not had any eggnog but I will get some for Christmas. Have not wrapped a gift or opened a gift. No kisses under the mistletoe. Haven't lit my Christmas Pine Candles yet or eaten a cookie. Have not seen Santa in person or read any scripture. I have watched at least a dozen Christmas movies but not my favorites yet!

3. Do you think it's better to be an adult or a child at Christmastime? Explain.

I think it is awesome to be an adult at Christmastime. Seeing the looks on my children's faces on Christmas morning was priceless and it is just as exciting for me now that they are all grown up. I love being a gift giver!

I loved Christmas a a child and my parents made it the best ever which is where my joy has come from.

4. It's often said, 'Good things come to those who wait'...agree or disagree? Why?

I am going to agree with that!  Of course I am sure that good things come to those who don't wait too. If we trust in our prayers to God we know that His answers are not always immediate so you can usually bet on the wait of His answer to you.

5. What's the last sweet thing you baked? Did you keep it, take it to a party/event, or give it away?

I made some awesome Pumpkin Chex Mix and some Pretzels Turtle Treats which I took to Houston with us for Thanksgiving.

6.  This question comes to us courtesy of Jhona who blogs over at The Red House at the End of the Lane. Everyone hop over and say hi to Jhona this week!  Here is her question... "I heard an actor talk about how he makes a conscious choice to talk to people in elevators.  He chooses to connect, make eye contact, and converse. Do you talk to people/strangers when you're in an elevator or any other place where you might have to wait together? Why or why not?"

Yes, almost always. Why?.....it's just who I am!

7. Are you on the naughty or nice list this year? What put you there?

I would hope to think I am on the nice list this year but I know I have had some heated conversations with words that I regretted saying so a few people might think I am naughty.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

Well I'm still not feeling Christmas yet.  Running way behind schedule. Mark did get the trees up but I have decided to wait to decorate them and the house right now.

I am concentrating on my gift buying this week and hoping to work on getting cards out. We have 25 people out of town that we send gifts to which makes for about six boxes. I had gone to gift cards a few years ago which is so much easier but I still like to add a few little things to some of them.

There is always time to decorate and since I keep my decorations up after Christmas there will still be plenty of time to enjoy them after the day. I have moved my Christmas Tree posts from the past few years up higher on my sidebar. Click on them to see the posts and my decorations.

We are attending Tristen's Fathers memorial luncheon on Saturday and that is my main focus right now. Her loss is weighing heaving on my heart.

I'm sorry to hear of your family's loss. My own dad passed away in December, some 22 years ago, and while there is never a good time to lose a parent, I think near the holidays is especially hard. Take care.

i finally got some cards mailed this week. :) should do more, but...

the pizza sounds like a great tradition!

That is neat with the pizza on Christmas, Debby! I like traditions like that. It is hard to focus on getting things done for the holidays when there is the sadness of seeing someone you love grieving the loss of their parent. Its going to be a different Christmas celebration this year, but I'm sure you'll still find a way to make it magical like you have in the past!

Hi, Debby!

Looks like you & I are the only ones who like eggnog.
We start buying it as soon as it comes out.
Our store brand tastes just as good as the expensive kind.

I am sorry to hear of your loss.
I will be praying on Saturday, esp.

Wishing you & yours a Merry Christmas!!

xoxo

Losing loved ones any time is hard, but during the holidays is especially heart-breaking. I lost my dad 25 years ago this week, and my mom 19 years ago, the week after Christmas. Joe's mom also died two days after Christmas 14 years ago. It is hard.

I enjoyed your Hodgepodge. Those stupid numbers are still showing up here and everywhere. Why did Blogger do this to us?

Your trees from the past as well as your gingerbread houses are beautiful. What a great tradition.
I'm really sorry about the loss of Tristan's father. It is truly sad when we lose a loved one, but the loss of your parent right around Christmas is especially a hard one.
Surprising that you can get pizza on Christmas Day.
I liked your answers on 3 and 4!

Hi Debby! You are such a good family member! All those gifts to buy, wrap and send, and then supporting your daughter-in-law too. No wonder getting into the Christmas spirit is a little rough right now.

Try to be good to yourself too, okay? Have an hour when you can take a deep breath and have a cup of something...or a wine glass of something!
Love me some pizza :)

Thanks for your well wishes on my blog. I will be praying for your family. Lost my dad 3 years ago just after Thanksgiving, it will never be the same for me.

I may have to adopt your gingerbread tradition. Sounds like the perfect Christmas activity.

I loved Christmas as a child and I love it even more now that I have children.

I talk to anybody anywhere.....my husband laughs and says I can make best friends in a public restroom!

I am not putting up a tree this year! I decorated our mantle and dining table and a few other little things, but no tree......it's been a tough year and I just want to relax!

So sorry about Tristen's loss! We have had 11 funerals this year and two close friends are currently on hospice.

No eggnog here yet :) I save it for Christmas Eve :)

And girl you don't want me baking! It never turns out! My sisters will witness that!

I think I like being an adult too...for those sammmme reasons :)

I am sorry I have been away so long! Hopefully I can keep up better with my new birthday laptop :)

Your holiday 'work' tired me to an 'inth' degree. All those gifts to buy....I'd be frazzled.

Yes, it IS fun for us adults to watch children at Christmastime. Tho we don't have young ones at home, I so enjoy seeing them and their bright, wonder-filled eyes at malls and areas near Santa!!

Those pretzels sound scrumptious.

I so agree with your take on #3. I have such great memories of when my kids were small.

I think I loved Christmas best when the kids were little. It was magical then. I still like it, but it's much more toned down now.
